Call me nuts (others have lol), but I want a back up plan to Disney, as they have put us on a flight that is suppose to arrive at 1:10pm on the day of our cruise (3/9- a Sat). I have heard last Disney bus leaves ard 1:30pm (although I hope they plan to wait for us as I know there is at least 18 of us on the flight from Toronto through air with Disney) IHas any one ever gotten to airport and no disney bus? If this was to happen and we were running late (yes even later than Disney has us coming in) what would be the absolutely fastest way to get to the Port. Any idea of cost (although if that happens that will be the least of my worries)

Thanks Debbie

I feel much better now Thanks I(maybe i should just retrun to worrying about packing oops I almost forgot to get bubbles)

BUT if you had to get to the Port without any prior arrangements would you take taxi, or try for limo at airport? what is cost of taxi do you think

I think it's important that we emphasize that DCL will wait for people to arrive from the airport if they have air and transfers from DCL. They don't monitor all flights for all cruise passengers.

On my Jan 19th cruise, they were ready to cast off at 5pm and I had heard the 'Mickey Whistle' (ship's horn) about 4:58. But the people on the ground didn't start to release the ropes until about 5:23 and we left about 5:28. I didn't find out until later at the Castaway Club reception that we had waited for one last bus from the airport to arrive.

In case you're wondering what happens if you board the ship late and miss the Assembly Drill, I can tell you first hand. On our first cruise in March of 2000, I didn't allow enough driving time and we boarded the ship at 4:25. We had dinner at 6pm and when we returned, we had a letter on the little fish message holder on the cabin door. It was written in an informative and somewhat stern manner and said they knew we missed the roll call from the drill and that they strongly encouraged us to take the time to familiarize ourselves with the procedure. They suggested we go to our assembly location using the map on the door, and to also take the time to pick up the life jackets from the closet and put them on, so we could familiarize ourselves with it. We did take their advice and did both.

As long as you have DCL transfers (you don't have to have their air). If you have tranfers and book the air seperate you need to call DCL with the flight schedule, they input it into the computer and it is one your reservation as if you had booked it through them so that ground services has the info. Provided the scheduled gate arrival time is no later than 1:30pm they will wait on those flights too if they are delayed.

If you do not have DCL transfers on the res or if your "independent air schedule" (meaning you booked it yourself) is not on the res, they obviously have no idea that they are waiting for you and thus might leave you behind. But provided they have all your info they will wait...

Thanks 999ghsts

This information should help ease worries for travelers that are flying in. I didn't know they would monitor flights for air travel that wasn't arranged thru DCL, that's a good policy. :)

our plane was running a bit late last saturday from Cincinatti to Orlando (ok like 3 hours late). Delta didnt really seem to care that we had somewhere to be, but after calling DCL (upon Delta's recommendation) the ladies in the Transfer department said that DCL has powers over airlines because if the airline doesn't get you to the port by the time the boat leaves, they are liable to house you and transport you to the first port of call.

I seriously am glad that we have the DCL transfers. They said that they will always wait for you, no matter how late you are. I think we got to the airport at 2:10 and thanks to a DCL bus that *flew* we made it on the boat by 3:20, just in time for the safety drill.

The Transfer girls also told me that if you miss the Safety Drill, "its not a big deal if you miss it because you cant be there"

DCL also says that the last bus is at 1:30 -- they can run them up until about 3:45ish and still make it to the port in time! Don't tell the airlines tho!!!!!
