Fast pass is back…

That would be one strategy that would work. Another would be use the prebookings so you don't need to rope drop. If you want to do all the major rides in a park in a single day, some combo of rope drop and Genie and ILL will be needed for sure.
Yeah coming from the West Coast the family hates getting up. I wouldn't do rope drop if I knew
the extended hours would be in play but I couldn't find any info for Dec saying it would. Probably
because of the Christmas parties.

Will early entry be impacted by this? Is my thinking correct that if I plan to do early entry it would make sense to head to a Tier 1 like Peter Pan instead of selecting that as one of my options?
Yea that would be a good start, rd a tier 1 ride like Peter Pan at mk then hit your first of 3 llmp rides. Soon as you scan into that ride, start booking your 4th rinse and repeat.

I really can't see a downside to this, other than it's not free like the old FP+. At first glance it seems superior in basically every way to the current system. A better version of FP+, albeit with a price tag, with the added option of ILL (*ahem* Lightning Lane Single) if you so desire.

Seems like people who plan ahead, stay onsite, and are willing to make the effort to work the system a bit (like most of us here), will have a huge advantage.
I don’t think it’s necessarily better than the old FP+ as you can’t get multiple FPs for the same ride like you could before. That’s a big negative for me.

Some additional info:

Those with APs who have a resort reservation will get to make the selections up to 7 days prior. If not it’s 3 days prior.

Purchase and selections will start at 7 am! July 24th will be the first day for everyone, so no advanced access before then.

If you prebook and cancel your resort reservation, the advanced selections will be canceled…but no refunds for the purchase of the pass.

You will be able to purchase both the LL single pass and multi pass in the same transaction. Can only purchase via MDE.

ETA: Those who international will not be able to book advanced until in the US.
Thank you for confirming - this was my question - if AP AND staying onsite, I’d assume I’d be able to book 7 days in advance.

While I applaud the concept of allowing people to not have to get up at 6:55am to book Genie+ and ILL's on their vacation, and like the alignment with the old FP+ product which allowed up to 3 per day (plus more after you start using them), I wonder if this is just one more crackpot idea of Disney's to make more money. I wonder if we're going to find that the daily price is $30 if purchased 7 days in advance, and maybe as low as $15 purchased the day of (perhaps because there are few slots left for popular rides, or that no one has bought 7 days in advance so they're knocking down the price). I guess we'll see if this happens starting in July!

Disney is very secretive about how many people bought G+ and ILL's. Some days I was in the park in February, normally a very slow time, there were 2+ hour waits for rides like Avatar, 7DMT, and ROTR, with throngs of people going through the LL entrance. Other days, the LL's were empty and the standby lines were an hour or less.

On a personal note, this, like Genie+ before it, is greatly adding to the cost to go to the parks while making those who don't purchase it likely doomed to wait in excessively long lines. As a DVC member, AP holder, and someone with literally hundreds of park days under my belt, It's not going to be a purchase I'll be making for every day of my annual trip. I'll wait in line for one or two "must rides", and then go and do something else, and use that money "saved" by not buying this new product to go to Universal.

Anyone know how the pre booking will work? In the good old days of pre booking 3 FP you could book @ 60 days out from your first day + your length of stay. Under the new system will I be able to book at 7 days out from my first day + my length of stay or am I going to have to get up at 4 a.m. west coast time every morning to book on a day by day basis?

It’s 7 days out from first day and let’s you book up to 14 day apart of a consecutive stay. Just hoping they consider split starts but that won’t happen.

Meh, we never purchased Genie+ and will not purchase this thing either. We seem to have gotten along fine without it, though we are not park commandos.

It is guaranteeing three selections with the ability to keep replacing them as you use them.
It's not just 3+1? You can keep adding selections as you use them all day?

Other than not having to book day of, is this less complicated? It doesn't feel less complicated and I thought that was the goal.

I read it as a rolling 3 reservations… every time you use 1 you can book another (subject to availability).

I don’t think it is less complicated… but I’m sure people will develop strategies to make the best use of the new system and we will see how it plays out.

I am betting this will be close to $100 per person per day. It is guaranteeing three selections with the ability to keep replacing them as you use them.
If it is that expensive I could see it being a limited number of purchasers.

Single people, couples and really wealthy families.

Adding $400 a day to a family of 4 costs will be difficult to sell.
I am prepared to spend an excessive amount and I am not sure I would go for that.

One of the complaints of Genie+ was that if you purchased it and didn't enter the parks early you may have at times only got to use it once or twice. Now you are guaranteed at least three attractions no matter what time you decide to go to the parks and you get to replace selections as soon as you use them.

I believe Universal charges $90 and higher depending upon demand per person for their version. I think the selling point is going to be that less people will purchase it but those who do will get on a lot of attractions with the shorter lines. Plus Disney will more than make up the revenue because of the higher up charges.

Like very much having the new advance-purchase Genie+ to avoid having to do it every morning at 7 and then spending half your life on the iPhone at the park getting the second, and then getting the third, etc. ride as the day progresses.

However, Disney's history tells me that excess greed is often the main driver for creation of such things and not further aiding the guests, and, as expressed above, this will just give Disney another option for which to charge a higher price than before and continuously raise that price once or twice a year.

I was not aware of the cost at Universal because when I looked into going there I believe the deal was you got the pass if you booked at one of their resorts.

My biggest issue with the cost is adding people to it that might go on a very limited number of rides.

Not intending to open a specific discussion on the matter, but I understand the recent change to the DAS policy was meant to curb some of the audience previously using that entrance and cut down on waits for both standard and LL lines.
