Fast food drive thru error - WWYD?

The Jack Nicholson diner scene from Five Easy Pieces is running through my head!!!!!

Take the toast.......................

My worst case was at a Wendy's. I ordered a baked potato with butter only. I got a baked potato with other items on it (can't remember exactly what).

When I returned it and said it was wrong I was told "No you ordered it that way". I told them "No I did not because I do not eat it this way, do not like it and would NEVER order it this way".

I eat most foods plain so I always check and am used to screw ups. Just apoligize and I will move on. Don't lie to my face to try and seem right.

Actually, being a picky eater & ordering things "plain" -- I learned early on in life, you ALWAYS check before pulling completely out of the parking lot.

We even do it when we eat inside -- I don't care that it has the big old sticker on it saying "plain cheeseburger" or whatever, I'm opening it up to double-check.

Otherwise, if we are long gone, we just deal with it. It's usually not worth the hassle of going back. Only one time did it become a major issue but I was pregnant and them getting my order wrong sent me into a crying meltdown -- I think my poor husband was beyond frazzled since I can't think of any other time getting a wrong order would phase me. I'm more used to it happening than not.

I would have eaten it and then I would have called them and told them about the error. Most of the time they will offer to give you free food as a gesture of good will.
I only go back if they forget something. Wendy's is famous for that. Can't tell you how many times we don't get the food we ordered. :sad2:

The fact that the employee wasn't even going to say anything about the parfaits and just let you go about your business is truly apalling. Why wasn't this employee reported to the manager? I am a manager in a fast food restaurant. Hopefully I would be been on the floor making these observations and fixing the issue as it occurred. It makes me wonder where the shift manager was at. Obviously, he/she was doing some "more important". I not only blame the crew person, but the manager allowing it to happen.

So. After posting to this thread a few days ago, I went to a Wendy's I had never been to before.

I ordered:
1 baked potato with sour cream and chives
1 hamburger plain and dry
2 5-piece chicken tenders with BBQ sauce
4 small sodas
1 spicy chicken sandwich

The person taking the order repeated all of this back to me with 100% accuracy, sauces and all.
When they handed me the food I saw the baked potato had no sour cream and chives. So I asked for these. Then I noticed the plain hamburger was a fully loaded cheeseburger. I asked them to switch it. Then I saw they had not given me any straws. I asked for straws. Then I saw that they had not given me any BBQ sauce. I asked for the BBQ sauce. Finally I noticed that they had not included the chicken sandwich at all. I asked for the chicken sandwich. I kept expecting that someone would at least say, "Oh, I'm sorry about all that" because it really was quite ridiculous, but no.

Sorry to the people in line behind me but if I had just driven off without checking, I would have felt so cheated.

He'd be pitching a fit right now if he had read this complaint. I have worked for
Wendy's before, and It's in their credo to apologize and fix any problem.

We were trained that the customer is always right, even when they are wrong.
Better to fix it and make-em happy (within reason).

So, on behalf of the Wendy's people who failed to take care of you the way were were trained to, I am very sorry for the mix-up. :flower3:

I havent seen this one asked, but Im sure its been asked a hundred times. Went through the McDs drive thru this weekend and ordered a bacon, egg, and cheese biscuit. Got a minute down the road, unwrapped my sandwich and it turned out to be an egg mcmuffin instead. I was starving and wolfed it down anyways. I was really annoyed but there were bigger battles to fight so I just let it be. What would you do?

The same.

The main problems of wrong orders are either people not caring about whether the customer gets their food right. The. First. Time. or the fact that the corporate office has declared that the drive thru has to move VERY FAST. Get you (the customer) in and out as quickly as possible. That and also a crapola speaker system that makes it hard to hear each other.

There's been times where the cashier just grabs whatever bag is sitting there, not paying attention to whether it's the right order. Which is hard to do as there's no receipt on taped on the bag.... We put the receipts on the bags at Bojangles. Or the person packing the order just grabs whatever sandwich is there, not even either checking it or asking the person who made it what it was....

If we're out of a product, we tell the customer immediately instead of waiting until they pay for it and are waiting on it. Unless it's something that we missed. Then they're either offered something else or a refund.

I've worked fast food for 23 years and it does seem that the quality of employees has declined over the years. It's more "shove them out as fast as you can" than actually INTERACTING with your customers. :sad2:
