Would anyone mind explaining to me what this is all about?I personally don't understand any reasoning for this expansion and destruction of Toontown to take place.:confused3

If you run "fantasyland expansion" through the search you'll turn up a bunch of threads discussing the details (as much as anyone knows now), pros and cons.

Because they want to "plus" Fantasyland with a new design and they can use the Toontown space for new attractions.

Part of the expansion actually reclaims the old 20K ride area from when the ride was removed 90s. While its sad that Micky & Minnie losing their homes is sad, the majority of peeps around here feel that Toontown has run its course and needs to go. As noted, search the forum for the other threads on this. The main thread was running ~26 pages the last I saw.

I think it's also fair to say that this is likely tied to the 40th anniversary of the MK.

Further info out there is that the Toontown buildings were never designed/built to be permanent and structurally they've pretty much run their course.

I wasn't stating that I wasn't looking forward to it.

You have chosen a downturned thumb as the icon to this thread.

They're gonna miss THAT by a mile. ;)

It won't fully completed by then, but I'm guessing a fair portion of it will be completed. Just MHO. Or they could just be planning on a big castle cake for the 40th... ;)

Think about it as renovation. I am looking forwad to see it, looks wonderful on plans.:goodvibes

We haven't been to Toontown in years. We have two boys, so don't expect to visit the new area (focused on princesses) until we have grandchildren. This, for our family, is a non-event... :confused3

If you ever get a chance to go to DL, you'll see what a REAL toon town should look like.

I'm actually glad they are taking down that poor excuse for "toon town" at WDW. It always looked like an afterthought to me compared to DL. I think the added Dumbo and Princess areas will be a nice change in that area. The foliage alone should make it a beautiful area to walk through.

Well ... to be fair ... it WAS an afterthought compared to DL. DL's was designed as a permanent location. WDW's was designed as a temporary attraction for a short period of time. But then it stayed on due to popularity. It was never meant to be around as long as it has been!

VERY true! Didn't mean for my post to come off as cynical as it did. I apologize if it did. I am just excited to see the changes to come at WDW. We frequent DL, but go to WDW once every year and a half or so. We're holding off now until the expansion of FL is done. I'm excited to see how pretty the area is. I'm sure the trees and grounds will be stunning!

When you think about all the movies that were made after mk was built it makes sense. The princesses are incredibly popular esecially Ariel and Belle. Having an area that deports you into their fantasy world makes a lot of sense. Toontown wasn't original to MK and always lacked something. We love barnstormer but will look forward to this newer larger area that gives us more reasons to venture back there. I'm glad that they are going to do it right and make it look and feel like the scenes we all know and love from the movies.

In answer to your question of "why?", I would just say to breathe new life into the 1970's style that MK has and keep up with the times like USO has done with Harry Potter. Change is never easy for nostalgia reasons but this should be really cool!

Princesses = money.

I think it will be a nice walkaround. I feel sorry for all brothers of the princesses.
