Fantasyland Expansion?!?

When you think about all the movies that were made after mk was built it makes sense. The princesses are incredibly popular esecially Ariel and Belle. Having an area that deports you into their fantasy world makes a lot of sense. Toontown wasn't original to MK and always lacked something. We love barnstormer but will look forward to this newer larger area that gives us more reasons to venture back there. I'm glad that they are going to do it right and make it look and feel like the scenes we all know and love from the movies.
I've always felt like the princesses and fairies didn't belong in Toon Town because they weren't "toons." They were "animated people", while I consider toons to be things like talking mice and ducks. :)

At DL, Toon Town is for the toons and only the toons. They don't have to share their space with princesses and fairies. The Fairies have Pixie Hollow (which is outside of the gates of Toon Town) and the Princesses have the Fantasy Forest (ditto). At WDW, there's this mad rush of people at the beginning of the day to see FAIRIES!! and PRINCESSES!!! At DL, the mad rush into Toon Town is to see TOONS!!! Which is how it should be. :thumbsup2

Why? Boys have plenty to do at the Magic Kingdom.

Of course there are things to do in other areas. I feel for the poor little guys that have to wait while the princesses meet ALL of the princesses. Total time waster for them.

DL toontown rocks.

OP, Toontown was designed as a place-holder of sorts. It was never intended as a permanent attraction, it was always meant for bigger, better attractions in the future.

$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$

Princesses = money.

I think it will be a nice walkaround. I feel sorry for all brothers of the princesses.

Princesses definitely equal money, however, they are also expanding Dumbo, making the Barnstormer circus themed and creating a "Be our Guest" character meal experience. All are quite siutable for boys :thumbsup2

Having raised 7 boys and 1 girl to one degree or another, i respectfully say that dumbo is a baby ride, and the barnstormer, while a possible distraction would usually be ridden by everyone including the princess wannabees. so not a time waster for the brothers. Most people don't do charactor meals, really. Although the villains are a fun idea.

As i said, it will be pretty, but for any boy over the age of 6 and too young to tour on their own it will not be a fun place.

No need to be offended. It is merely my opinion. Sometimes disney does stuff i don't agree with.

DL toontown rocks.

True. It would have been nice if they added some Peter Pan or Aladdin to the mix.

Yes, I love Disneyland's Toontown as well. They need to bring the Roger Rabbit ride to WDW.

Even change the fairyland place to a less girly area, like having the lost boys would have been cute.

RR was a hoot! Toss in Mr. Toad, too while I am wishing for what i am not going to get! They could make the play area hell!:rotfl:

I would love it if they added the Skull Rock area Disneyland used to have (and I think DLP has it currently).

Aww Mr. Toad...love that ride!:thumbsup2

Any talk yet about WHEN Toontown will close? I imagine most of you who frequent the World annually+ feel that the earlier the better to get the refurb started. From the perspective of someone who has not been down there in over three years and will most likely not get back for another 3 or 4 after her family trip in May, I am hoping they will not start the refurb until fall.

Does anyone know the start/end date?

No start / end dates have been released, other than that it will "start" in 2010 (which it already has, in backstage areas) and "end" in 2013 (with parts of the new land likely to open in 2012).

Past that, though, it's all guesswork.

Although it should be noted that there will be an entire restaurant dedicated to Gaston (Gaston's Tavern). And, as Gaston is famous for using "antlers in all of his decorating", I would imagine this will become a popular photo op spot for boys (and men) of all ages!

And, while the "new" Fantasyland seems to be princess-centric, Philharmagic, Peter Pan (not a princess in sight!), Pooh ("baby ride"?) and small world will remain, which will still all appeal to boys. It's also likely that the sword in the stone will remain as another photo op, and of course the Tea Cups will still be there. So ... while not a lot of new stuff for the little guys, they'll have plenty to do until it's time to go over to Tomorrowland and be grossed out by Stitch, drive a race car or fight the Evil Emperor Zurg!

There are lots of other places. I guess that i don't have a very good perspective on size and scope. I could picture a morning blown there in a heartbeat.

As far as the other lands, I, as a girl, enjoy all of those places as much as my sib brothers. So, in theory, princesses entertained, having fun all day long. Non little or henpecked boys waste morning sitting. My kids would have seen it in much the same way.

My poor little nephew, however, is use to waiting for girl stuff. LOL, he loves my house!

It won't affect my day, except for the pretty walk through. My daughter isn't a princessy kind of girl. And the baby is the only one left who will someday like dumbo.

I remember going there when I was 14 and it was "Mickey's Starland". I couldn't figure out what the point of it was back then lol .

My kids enjoyed the barnstormer when they were younger so we're happy the track will stay and we just had a baby girl who will be the perfect age when the expansion is all said and done! :wizard:

I say so long stinktown to toontown! After being at the one in DL that one is terrible!!! I am very excited about the new stuff and I only have a boy. DH is very excited about Gaston's restaurant he loves him.

I have boys and they think Gaston is a loser and really not a cool character. Of course they don't like beauty and the beast at all anyhow. I think the new theming seems like a good idea but hope they will add some stuff for the boys just to make it interesting to walk through.

It's funny to me how everyone is worried about what the boys will do in the new fairy-themed areas. There are so many "boy" areas in Magic Kingdom...Frontier Land, Adventure Land, Tomorrow Land...these could all be considered "for boys" due to Pirates of the Caribbean, Buzz Lightyear, "Space" themes, Tom Sawyer Island, the "mountain" rides...

But girls enjoy all of these rides just fine! And I'm sure boys will enjoy the princess area as well. Who doesn't want to flirt with a princess?
