Today’s Navigator

After our late night last night we were slept in this morning and didn't get up until 7:45. We had already docked in Costa Maya so we went up for breakfast and then went ashore to the small resort area at the end of the pier.

We had a look around the shops there, bought a fridge magnet and then went back to the ship.

Once back on board Dad went off to read to read on his Kindle and I went round doing the Midship Detective Agency game again, taking photos as I went round.

I finished the Muppets case, went upstairs for a drink and then did the missing paintings case, then went for a look in the shop windows where the Dooney & Burke bags had been put out ready to go on sale this afternoon.

I met up with Dad and we sat downstairs for a while then at 12:15 we went up to Flo's cafe where Dad had his usual cheeseburger and I had a slice of BBQ chicken pizza and a slice of pepperoni pizza.

After lunch Dad went off to read again and I did the missing puppies case then went back to the cabin to copy today's photos onto my iPad and relax for a while.

At 2:30 we went down to the Buena Vista Theatre for a presentation at 3:00 by Joe Lanzisero, Senior Vice President for Walt Disney Imagineering Creative, who was responsible for designing the DCL ships. He spoke about how the design of the ships came about, how everything is story-boarded just like a film would be and how every little detail is thought about. Bob Iger also popped up at the end and confirmed that, with all their other commitments at the moment, there are no plans to build any more ships in the near future.

The bottom drawing is a proposed design for the Magic before she was built!

After the presentation it was time to relax for a while again before tonight's show - Wishes - in the Walt Disney Theater. The plot of Wishes is your normal sort of boy grows up with girl, boy wants to be more than friends but can't tell girl how he feels plot plus girl and her best friend grow up together but girl can't tell best friend they are going to be going to separate colleges plot type show that only serves to link together classic Disney songs but it is a great show and definitely worth seeing if you are ever on the Fantasy.

After the show it was down to La Piazza for our usual drinks then into Royal Court for dinner, which tonight was the Prince and Princess dinner. Dad started with duck, followed by potato and sausage casserole soup and turkey, while I had smoked salmon, followed by potato soup and strip steak. For dessert we both had sundae, which was becoming an in joke amongst the ladies on our table.

After dinner it was back downtown La Piazza for another drink.

There was another gift from Disney tonight.

We were in bed for 11:00, which was really midnight as the clocks were going forward again tonight.

Day 8

I like the look of Costa Maya David, though it might've been the Senor Frogs sign on top of one of the buildings that caught my eye :rotfl2: :rotfl2:

More lovely photos from around the ship, The Tube looks like fun ::yes::

Another great day :thumbsup2

Did you and Dad not fancy any of the excursions DCL offered David? We really want to visit the Mayan ruins when we're in Cota Maya.

The presentations sound really interesting. There is absolutely no arguing with the fact that Disney put an awful lot of thought into getting every detail just right.

In your photos, the ship looks awfully empty. My biggest concern about the larger ships is that they would seem crowded with all of those extra people on board. Assuming that the MV was sold out (a fair assumption, I would think), did it seem crowded to you? Was it because a lot of your pictures were taken while you were docked and most people would have been ashore?

Oh, and the D&B bags look awesome! You know i asked you to bring me back a souvenir? I don't supppose....;)

There were a few excursions that I wouldn't have minded doing but I really wanted the trip to be about the ship and getting to explore it as much as possible - although there were still parts that I never got around to going to.

The cruise was sold out and most of the photos were taken when people were ashore but even in the evenings and on sea days it didn't feel crowded at all. I was worried about that to but it was fine.

Well since you mention souvenirs and the D & B bags, I...................didn't get you one. :goodvibes

Another lovely day David:thumbsup2

I do think your soooo cruel though not getting Joh a bag :rotfl2:

Well your photos are brilliant and typically answered my questions on yesterdays report about the slide:) Great day:goodvibes

Amazing photos again, but did you have to show me pictures of those beautiful handbags ? I need one right now they are so fab!

Love the coin :goodvibes it's a really nice touch to give these commemorative souvenirs.

Ooooo look at the Dooney and Bourke bags!

Sea looked choppy at Costa Maya yes? I'd be the same as you and want to stay onboard the ship sad to say bar Grand Cayman I'm not a big fan of the Western itinerary it just never did it for us the last time we went. Although we did Key West which of course I also love!

It was a little bit choppy but we didn't feel it on the ship really.
