Fantasy - July 14, 2012

Just explained FE to the family traveling with us (actually just to the mom because my daughter is making their FE and wants it to be a surprise for the rest of their family), and she says they'd like to do it. They are in 8188... Kerry(dw) Lee(dh) Abigail (dd 12) and Lili (dd9). She had concerns about expectations also, since we won't know how many will be participating until group is closed.

By my count we are starting to have a fair number of 9 yr old girls.....Brianna, Claire, Michelle, and now Lili! I may have missed some.....

Doh! Don't like how quick reply doesn't link to message I'm replying to....keep forgetting to hit quote button:)

Aloha!

DH and DD (14 months at time of cruise!) are ready to set sail.

I am beyond excited for this cruise. It will be our first Disney cruise but not first cruise!

Is it July yet?

I think we all wish it was......can't wait! We did the cruise with my des at 8 months and 18 months..... Had a fabulous time both times!

Let your friends know they are now on the list. I have entered them as no name since I don't have a disboard ID.

For those of you keeping track our little FE has grown leaps and bounds over the past few weeks. We are now 14 groups and 56 people so I figure it is time to do another survey about closing down the list. What does everyone think?

On another note has anyone done the 5K on CC. I keep wanting to do it but can't wake up early to get going so I figure maybe someone here can help motivate me.

My son and I are planning on running the 5k on CC. We both ran the princess 5k in February and had a blast. I think I read that they meet at 9:00. That's not to bad. We had to be up at 4:00 to run the princess. You should run with us!!!

We could also keep it open and dived the list in two........since 14 groups /2 =7 Which would be 1 FE/ day......keeps it a little smaller....and more manageable?

I like the idea of just dividing up the total number of groups if it's kept open and continues to grow. If it's closed now, I don't guess that would be necessary.

Thanks . This is what I need so I will do it. I thought it was earlier than 9 but I have not really paid much attention on past cruises. I may try and get my younger son to join me but he would actually have to start running.

It is supposed to close June 1 which is 6 weeks out. I know I need some time to put everything together and would like to do it sooner because dh and I are going to Montreal June 7. I can probably manage the number we have now without going to the store again. Dividing up would just result in having stuff to return. I am glad we are flying Jet Blue and can each bring 1 piece of luggage.

I would rather close it earlier than split the group. Close it May 15th so it's 2 months out.

I like your idea. I really do not want to split it either since we started out so small at first and I feel invested in giving to everyone so far but at the same time I don't want it any bigger. Would love to hear a few more votes since we are talking about giving it another 10 days.

My vote is to close the FE list mid-May. Thanks.

Busy weekend! Noah has a lacrosse game in Cross Plains (about 45 min west of us), then we are going to Gurnee, Il (about 2 hrs south east of us) to see nephew play lacrosse tonight. In between we are going to see Avengers. Bill brought home 9 flats of annuals last night. His school does a plant sale and he buys the leftovers. So tomorrow when we get back from Gurnee I will be busy planting and dreaming of my blue floatie on CC.

What does everyone else have going on this weekend?

One of my sisters stayed with us last night. She's been on one cruise (RCCL) and was arguing with us about DCL. In her opinion we pay way too much for our cruises, they are all the same - why pay more. It became pointless trying to explain....

We tried the Oasis last spring break and all agreed that we liked Disney better. I figured that I may pay more for Disney but the service is nicer, the rooms slightly bigger, and I am not being upcharged for everything.

Closing mid-May sounds good- I need time to put everything together!!! I need a final count ASAP so I can buy supplies.

At 9 am I repaired the washing machine, by 1030 we started a load to test the machine. While we were waiting I started "straightening up" the basement. 5 boxes of recycling, 3 bags of trash, and 4 boxes to donate later, we just quit! By the way the machine seems to be back to normal, fingers crossed!

Do you have any tips for cruising with a baby?

From what I remember it wasn't too bad :)

Both times we took advantage of the strollers on board and left ours in the car. The strollers were decent and folded up easily into the stateroom and were easy to navigate through halls / deck etc.....they did have a large canopy, but I think I brought the sun shade cover to cover the stroller when he was sleeping on deck...You get them from the main concierge desk (or did) and keep it for the entire cruise...they used to require a deposit, but there were no problem getting it back....if I remember correctly we had issues with one stroller but they swapped it right away.

Used the pack and play they provided in the room....Worked well for us....it can be folded up during the day to give more space. My ds did a lot of napping in the stroller as we was not a napping type unless we were out for a stroll.

I remember packing lots of diapers and wipes as they are extremely expensive on board.....swim diapers are a must for the pool areas....always pack more than you think would need....you never know!

Always made sure I had some toys to attach to the stroller....he often sat I stroller at dinner and played/ slept while we at. Both times we requested late dinner seating....we would feed the kids on deck with kid food! When ds was 8 months I packed his favorite cereal and some baby food for the week, but relied on fruits and veggies on board. At 18 months....he ate fully on board...but I think I packed some Cheerios, goldfish etc...that I could use for snacks in a pinch......got see the shows...and then go eat...baby would often sleep, while older one would go to club or eat with us during dinner, we would have never been able to get them to enjoy the late show if we'd eaten first ( my kids were on a 7:00 pm schedule when we cruised last.....8:00 was notpretty)

In port: st. Maarten....we stayed at the beach where the tender arrives....it was nice and the kids had a great time....in st. Thomas/st. John..took a cab to the beach....was nice too.. Our approach was to take it easy and do things that were easy to get back on the boat from....I.e. no excursions....

Booked him to the nursery a few times....for Palo and Key west ( on the western trip)...pretty uneventful.

Spent some very early mornings on deck walking the baby, but it was peaceful....very quiet in the morning....even got to see Donald one day!

CM's were very helpful, often entertaining him and helping watch him when I had to leave the show because he was having a fit!

Brought a small container of dish soap, a cloth, etc, to wash out sippy cups in the room, baby spoons, and containers in the room. I vaguely remember packing the mini Tupperwarse for cereal etc...so that I could portion it in the room and then carry what i needed with me for the day. I would mix it up at meals. It was handy to always have a "meal" with me and not have to back the room constantly for baby food...was handy to be able to wash the snack container and cups at the end of the day do they stayed clean...also didn't matter if I lost the container or sidn't want to pack it back up.

Large ziplock (freezer size) were handy for keeping meal stuff together....and could be tucked into the stroller pocket...

It's been a few years...but I don't remember doing too much differently then when I travel with kids...

I think the other thing I did was pack out fits for each day into their own ziploc bags. helped keep their outfits organized and It provided me with lots of plastic bags to to use for various things....such as wet bathing suits in port etc....
