Fantasy - July 14, 2012

I had my DGD introduce herself on FB and she said she will be checking it every other night. She is the social girl so I hope she forms contacts to make the cruise even more fun. The DGS is a little shy but once he is familiar with you he loosens up and he has a quick wit. Hope he meets others at the Edge that he can hang out with.

This is my first experience with this type of forum. Do the families schedule a meeting so we actually meet one another once we get onboard?

I will try again to get my 12 year old ds on facebook tonight. My 15 yo has made it clear that he will meet people on his own.

With regards to setting up a meet we have not arranged one yet. We probably should I just have no idea where or when. Anyone have any ideas?

Our DIS meet in Feb. was in the Promenade Lounge on the Wonder and it worked out nicely. We met at 3pm. It lasted about 20 minutes and didn't interfere with lunch or muster.

I am trying to find somewhere that compares on the Fantasy. Maybe Bon Voyage or Vista Cafe?

I would just like to mention....
IT'S MY BIRTHDAY!!!!!!!!!! pixie dust:pixie dust:pixie dust:pixie dust:
I love birthdays. And Cruises. And now we are one day closer to our cruise!

Happy Birthday, hope you had a great day! Treat yourself with something nice for the cruise.

I just finalized my FE gifts, ordered remaining supplies needed, and now I wait delivery. I need to make tags for the gifts. Last year I used my Cricut and made
"fancy" tags but that was more work than I think it was worth. Need to think of an alternative tag. That can keep me busy while I await deliveries!

Getting excited.....

Though I keep having panic attacks at the amount of money we spent on this cruise  I just hope it will all be worth it come July.:thumbsup2

I hope we have good weather. They just named the first storm of the season which doesn't begin till June. :confused3

Starting on my FE's :cool1:

Hope everyone has a great weekend! pixiedust:

I promise you that you will love it. With this being our 8th I have to say it is a vactaion my entire family looks forward to and everything else we have tried never lives up to being on the ship

I agree with Linkandclover, this is also our 8th cruise. 7 of those have been late July (1 was early August) and we've had great weather. An occasional shower, a couple of beach evacuations on Castaway Cay because of a passing thunderstorm, but never a hurricane or rough seas. Of course it could always happen, but that's part of the adventure. Don't worry about the weather, there's not a thing you can do about it.

6 in 2 years for us. Obviously we love it. It is a rare experience that can be as relaxing or active as you want it to be. This will be our first in the Caribbean in the summer. I am a bit of a comtrol freak and the hurricane season is a bit worrisome but at least we are insured. It has started early this year but we have to wait and see if it becomes a pattern. July is usually a lot slower than the end of summer.

Think of it tis way... only on a cruise ship can the captain move your hotel to somewhere with better weather. Now in saying that we did the Mediterranean in 2010 and if you type it in to youtube you can see footage of the storm we were in that resulted in them closing all doors to go outside because the pools were emptying of water because the sea was so rough and the items in the store were falling off the shelves. My kids thought that it was really great and my husband and I took advantage of this and slept most of the day (it had been a busy cruise).

Think of it tis way... only on a cruise ship can the captain move your hotel to somewhere with better weather. This is very true! One year we had a stormy day at Castaway Cay (we had fun anyway and the evacuation of the beach was interesting) the next day we had a day at sea, the captain found a sunny spot and parked the ship. You could see cloudy skies all around but we were in sunshine. I have heard of these kinds of seas but have never experienced it (thankfully). All of our cruises have been Bahama/Caribbean because we have a hard time imagining a cruise without a stop at CC

There are trip reports of cruises impacted by hurricanes. I don't think one has ever been cancelled, they just may go to different ports. And when you think about it that's ok. Would you really want to dock at Cozumel when they are experiencing a hurricane? There was one cruise a few years ago that was 3 days (I think) late returning to Port Canaveral due to storms. They had an extra long cruise but the next cruise was shortened by 3 days. That stuff is more likely to happen later in the hurricane season. I try very hard to live by the rule - worry only about what you have control over. I have no control over the weather so I tend to not worry about it. Although, when we dock at CC and there are rainy clouds I do get a little sad. Then I remember - a rainy day at Castaway Cay is MUCH better than a sunny day at WORK!

We were in the Med. in Aug. 2010. It started out with light rain in Spezia. We were outside the leaning tower when the heavens opened up with thunder and lightening all over. The tour guide rushed us all inside. It was a half day excursion and the seas were already very choppy for the tender. We were on our way to the 2nd theatre show and were distracted by crowds on deck 4 looking overboard. It turns out that the seas were so rough they couldn't get the last 3 tenders on board. The ship had to do a 180 degree turn to partially block the wind. Even at that the ship left almost 2 hours late. That performance was more interesting than the theater that night.

Well, I came here to check why our board was soooo quiet and find out that 5 pages have passed without me!!!:sad2::eek: Usually, my fav Fantasy-July 14th pops into my email account and I get all excited, but I have had a ton of other threads come up but not you all.... So much catching up to do!!!
