Fantasy deck & room questions

My DH & I have decided to sail with our DS on the Fantasy for our 10th wedding anniversary. I'm BEYOND ecstatic, but I went online to book our cabin and the room locations and types have me stumped. I'd be very appreciative if any DISbuddies could give some insight. Thanks!
1. What's the difference between an extended verandah, undersized verandah, & regular verandah room? (I assume it's the size, but I'm wondering if there's a difference in the actual cabin.)
2. I read the aft rooms at the very back of the ship are less windy. Are they also more wobbly than the midship area? (On other cruise lines, we've only stayed in inside cabins on the lowest level & we didn't feel any rocking.)
3. Are levels 8 & 9 the quietest for cabins?

1. Verandah size is the difference. The rooms themselves are generally all the same size (within a category).
2. Not sure what you mean by "wobbly". Vibration? Swaying? Generally rooms midship are the most likely to not rock so much. Forward and aft both can be rocky, depending on the seas, with forward being more so than aft.
3. While the general thought is "rooms located between other decks with staterooms on the are quieter", I can only report that our deck 9 room on the Fantasy was much noisier than our deck 10 room. The deck 10 room was located underneath the starboard entrance to Cabanas. I will also say it wasn't ship's noises as such. It was the guests who preferred to run foot races down the passageway on the deck above us. And the 2 sets of connecting rooms on either side of us who had kids that seemed to prefer running laps through the connecting door/verandahs all day.

Basically, these verandahs are about 3x the size of a typical verandah, and come with 4 chairs - 2 upright and 2 loungers. Heaven! These rooms are toward the front (Bow) and do sway a bit at times, but I've never felt it to be more than on other areas of the ship.

Basically, these verandahs are about 3x the size of a typical verandah, and come with 4 chairs - 2 upright and 2 loungers. Heaven! These rooms are toward the front (Bow) and do sway a bit at times, but I've never felt it to be more than on other areas of the ship.

I'll try to explain this simply. Deck four is the exterior running/walking/shuffleboard track. The lifeboats are hung above that, essentially along deck 5. The deck 5 verandahs are on the front/rear of the ship extending beyond the lifeboats. Deck 6 is the full row directly above the lifeboats. I believe there is a thread somewhere on the Dis that has zoomed photos of the ship exteriors with room #s overlaid.

We were in 5026/5028, which are the first two extended verandahs on the port side forward. It made for a really nice view! I would definitely book these rooms again.

We just got off the Fantasy. We always book Deck 6, midship, Deluxe Family Oceanview with verandah. I will say that I felt far more shaking and vibration in the aft areas of the ship than I have ever noticed before.

We have booked Verandahs on Deck 6, 9 and 10 in either forward or midship. One time when we sailed VGT, we ended up with a aft cabin on Deck 9 and it was not the best one we have had.

Personal preference for us is forward on Deck 10 starboard under the Spa where it is super quiet. The only people who go down that hallway are either officers to get to the bridge or people who are staying in the cabin on either side of us.

We also enjoyed deck 6 and 9 mid ship /forward area (6528 a couple of times and 9528 once)

Is this vibration unique to The Fantasy? I have never felt it on The Dream in aft or mid or Fwd. if it's similar layout to The Dream we find deck 5 nice and quiet but I have never had an issue with noise.

We had a verendah but we didn't use it much to be honest. The times we were in the room evening etc mostly dark. I liked it but would not miss it if it were not there. Now if not sailing conceirge ( you have to book a verendah ) we are happy as a clam with oceanview!

Not a general reason,but it is definitely something our family prefers
We always get a nice view of the islands we arrive in as opposed to the port view. For example, Castaway Cay starboard is a great view of the island and not the port. We did stay port side one time on Deck 9 and it was fine, but we missed our CC view that trip.

On our last Fantasy cruise in January (the one with the propulsion issue) there was definitely vibration but we really noticed it in the Tube when they did the C club party and mimosas were vibrating off the tables.

Thank you for reply how odd. I wonder if the ship got damaged in a storm? Maybe the stabilisers I heard that can happen.

The vibration on the Fantasy has been reported many times in the past. Most speculation is that one of the props is out of alignment, or something like that. We felt it quite badly on our B2B cruises in Sept 2014. It seems the worst when she is making at least 20 knots (which she has to do a couple of times on the cruises she does).

I was kinda hoping that it had been fixed when the Fantasy had her propulsion fix after she had to cut one cruise short. Guess not.

Maybe dry dock will address the issue?

There had been vibration issues before that, but for some reason on that cruise we ended up losing the use of one of the props. It took the speed down considerably and we could not dock at CC that trip because it would have meant not getting back to PC in time on Saturday.
As it turned out, they were able to repair the problem that day, but they did sail later than usual on that run. I think they left at 7 PM or somewhere in that time frame.

She's due for a dry dock by 2017. There's a gap in her schedules between Apr 29 & May 19 next year. Speculation is that's for her dry dock.
