Hoping someone can confirm something for me...

DD will be 12 on our Fantasy cruise next year. Since she was in the age range for both the Lab and Edge, I assumed she could spend time at both. But DH read in our guide book that she will have to choose one or the other on the first day, with no option to change later.

I can't find any mention of this anywhere else online...is this really the case?

Kind of a bummer, she enjoys hanging out with her younger brother, but if she happens to find some friends on the cruise they may be going to Edge and then she'll feel left out. Or she'll pick Edge then make friends with kids going to the Lab, lol! I kinda wish now that they would just give one option if it isn't flexible later.

It's her choice, if she wants to be with her younger brother she should do that, if not she should make friends her age in the Edge.

Yeah she would probably enjoy Edge more, I just hate that she can only do one or the other. If it wasn't her choice to make, there wouldn't be anything to regret, lol!

My son at that age went in one first day, swapped and went to the edge. So they can do it first day.

Agree with the above. We sailed on the Magic in March and my 11 year old went to the Lab and Edge at different times through the week. He wasn't asked to choose one. There were some activities he enjoyed doing with his little sister in the club/lab.

She can move back and forth between the Lab/ Club and the Edge as she wishes. I believe that DCL used to make kids choose one or the other but that has been changed. CMs who work in the kids clubs and post here have confirmed this.

That would be awesome. Hopefully the book was just out of date.

My son was 10 on our transatlantic cruise, he was allowed to go to BOTH the club/lab and the edge, even though he wasn't quite 11 yet. But as a previous poster pointed out, it could depend on the amount of kids on board and if they are at capacity. On the transatlantic there were maybe only 300 kids on the whole ship so it certainly wasn't an issue. Are you traveling during a peak season?

Edited for clarity

If you are looking at the Passporter, there are often mistakes in that publication even in newer editions. The kids who border two clubs can freely go back and forth between the two during the cruise. This is for lab/Edge & Edge/Vibe.

DS was 11 on our Alaska cruise last August and was able to go back and forth between the Clubs/Edge as much as he wanted.

My DS was able to go back and forth between the club/lab & Edge. He was 10 weeks shy of his 11th bday, but Edge put a sticker on his KTTW card so he could go there and also told us he could go to the club/lab with his younger sister too. He did not step foot in the club/lab though. He really enjoyed Edge and the kids that he met there.

ETA: This was last year on the Fantasy Easter cruise so it was a very packed ship!

I'm glad they can probably change. My son will be old enough to do either on our 7 day, and we've never gone that long on a trip before. I bet he will change his mind during the trip of where he wants to be.

Great - thanks everyone! Looks like it won't be an issue. BTW - the excerpt I read that in was in The Unofficial Guide - Disney Cruise Line (2014). Just another example of how hard it can be to get reliable Disney info!

Thank you so much for posting this! I had been wondering the same thing. I had been reading as well that my daughter would have to choose at 12, and then I read elsewhere not. If this question had not been posted, I was going to do so myself.
