We have been renting cars for years with all of the companies, and have never had to show anything more than a driver's license and credit card. I have never been asked to produce any form of membership to any group that I have booked cars under. Car rates change so often that a low rate wouldn't garner anyone's attention at the counter. All that agent wants to do is either upsell you to a larger car since they often do not have as many smaller cars available as they book, sell you to collision insurance and get you out the door. That said, I always have a back up reservation or two to fall back on.
Doesn't do much for minivan rentals.
I searched, but at $230 for a week (March 18 - 25) it's still $50 higher than I got through Budget (USAA).
I haven't tried it and I do not know where it comes from but I read about it on flyer talk. For the corporate id, type in the number 1 and then use whichever coupon you have. I have a rate of $264 for pick up of a midsized SUV at noon on April 30th and drop off at 5pm on May 8th. It includes insurance, surcharges, etc. Without using 1 for my dates but using a coupon, the rate is $709!
You may want to have a backup id and coupon just in case- I will- but I thought I'd share in case it does work. I have better things to do with $445!
That's great if you live in the US...CAA doesn't give a rate even close to that..
USAA is not the equivilant of CAA (that would be AAA). USAA is for US military families.
Oh!! I must have googled the wrong thing![]()
I have been holding a minivan reservation for awhile at Budget using the X474200 code from Travelocity. I tried this code at Alamo and I still have a better rate. Apr 29 - May 7 Budget $329 (after coupon) and $371 at Alamo.
I think the key point that is missed (and that is the biggest issue) isn't so much the rate provided, but the extras that are included. When you see extras included that is a very restricted rate provided.
I actually cannot wait until the first person is denied a car on this corporate code and comes back on here to complain that Alamo didn't honor the reservation and had to pay more.

I will be doing this with you!
Some people just try to get the best rate whatever way they can. It is the extras as stated that will cause the flags. When someone gets hit by the person missing their exit to one of the parks or gets a big ding from someone opening that door extra wide to get their pooh sized family out of the car and the stroller for Tommy and Timmy who are 8 years old they will be crying! Also, this family will have the crocs with black socks and the fanny pack with the cooler full of food to take to the park. There will also be the large wheeled backpack too. The family will be in a rush so someone can hold the place in line while the others amble their way back to Haunted Mansion----stopping the stroller with the 8 year old twins in it (who by the way just get too tired to walk) in the middle of the walkway to open the cooler to get a snack. They will then proceed to cut in front of all of those who used this 'magical' code knowing they hit the doors 'just a little' but no worry to them since they drove their own car and just damaged someone elses in the lot.
This kind of reminds me of the 'magical' National Code a few years back!
Like I said I have been asked for a Costco card...just takes the right person to ask....
Just takes one accident or ding that wasn't there to be out hundreds of $$$ in damages, loss of use plus paying a higher rate. And as stated over and over credit card companies won't do a darn thing!

You might want to consider the premium rental coverage from Amex which activates for a fee of around $20 per car rental period. It covers the car, bumper to bumper for up to $50K. And that "hundreds of dollars of damage" is only to the level of your deductible. Your own car insurance covers the est. With regard to "loss of use", the car companies have to demonstrate that they are over 98% rented most of the time.
Except that the fine print of most (all?) credit card coverage is that you need to refuse the coverage provided by the car rental company. Since this "deal" includes all coverage, the "deal" nullifies most credit card coverage - leaving you the renter to pay all of the damage.
