Fantastic Alamo code

And its easy enough to walk down to the next counter where you have a back up reservation at another low rate. The goal of any agency is to rent the highest grade car for the highest rate but the ultimate goal is to rent out the inventory.

And yet people wonder why rates are high? Multiple bookings increases the amount of rented inventory, thus increasing the costs for everyone, including the person trying to get the lowest rate. I CANNOT WAIT until rental companies start imposing cancellation policies like hotels, requiring 24 hours notice without being charged at least one rental night/day.

You might want to consider the premium rental coverage from Amex which activates for a fee of around $20 per car rental period. It covers the car, bumper to bumper for up to $50K. And that "hundreds of dollars of damage" is only to the level of your deductible. Your own car insurance covers the est. With regard to "loss of use", the car companies have to demonstrate that they are over 98% rented most of the time.

If you rent under false pretense, violating the contract provisions, which could be proven, rental insurance, regardless of the source will turn their back. You wreck a car using a code you're ineligible for means you have a void contract, insurance covers drivers renting with permission of the rental agency, having a voided contract would be renting without permission.

Also, expect to be blacklisted from renting EVER again from that rental agency and those connected to it (ie. Enterprise, National, Alamo are all connected).

I will still have to initial that I accept the coverage, which I will decline. As I said, if that is still stipulated, I can walk down to the next counter where I will have another option.

If the rate is included, they usually require no signature to accept the coverage, I know when I rent for company business I don't have to sign anything acknowledging the insurance is included (which it is legitimately).

So has anyone called yet?? Do we know what the ID is exactly?

I just got off of the phone with Alamo. Feeling that I have nothing to lose, I told the rep that I booked on line, used a coupon code that I had, and whenthe price came up with all of the free stuff, and and "contract ID X" is there any group that I need to belong to or any ID I need to show. He told me that if I was able to book it, they will honor it and there is no ID that needs to be shown at the counter. He asked me if I am a travel agent. I said no. He asked if the coupon was an airline coupon. I said I didn't know. He pulled up some info and saw no problem with the res and congratulated me.

I love all the people on here who just beg for codes and dont seem to have the time to get off there lazy bums and go searching on there own. Then they come back saying they dont know how to use it. I dont really care if this offended you and this is a general statement not attacking anyone. Do your own research people!!!!!!!! Wedcot Out.

I have been holding a minivan reservation for awhile at Budget using the X474200 code from Travelocity. I tried this code at Alamo and I still have a better rate. Apr 29 - May 7 Budget $329 (after coupon) and $371 at Alamo.

Be careful with the Budget X474200 travelocity code. There is another thread going on right now (#88 in http://www.disboards.com/showthread.php?t=2387874&page=6 )where the poster states that her mother was told she had to have proof she worked for travelocity in order to use the code. It appears that it is not for use by the general public.:confused3

Do I trust a single agency to have a car available 100% of the time? No. I recall not having the SUV that I had rented available and the size they had left would not have accommodated our family and luggage. I was so glad that I could go to the next counter with my waiting reservation. I don't travel enough to impact the prices or the inventory.
I called and spoke to the agent. I told him I had a number and coupon code and booked on their site. He saw no problem with the reservation. If I wreck the car, my personal auto insurance will cover the collision damage. The most I will be out is my deductible, which would apply if I wrecked my own car. See the previous post regarding my phone call. I will happily take the car the rate I secured and quite guilt free.

Call center agents do not always have all the answers or convey the correct answers. You as an individual, will not effect inventory, but it is naive to think you are the only one who plays this game, and yes, it will, in aggregate impact inventory.

As for your own insurance, if you damage the car and the car rental company finds out that you are ineligible, they will note the record, the same record that your insurance company will pull, the same one that will indicate that the contract was rented with invalid information. Insurance companies want to reduce their losses as much as possible, and if there is clear contract violation, they will not pay the claim.

In the end, it comes down to ethics. Is it ethically correct to use something you are ineligible for?

Thats great you will take the car guilt free based on what the agent told you on the phone. Did you get his name and have him put it in writing. Also, you would also be out your deductible AND loss of use charges for the rental car and any damage to the other car if you caused it.

I don't understand how people (and this is not just directed at you rumpus) people can spend thousands of dollars on a trip to Disney (or wherever) and then don't pay for seats on airlines (Airtran), try and get their 4 year old and under 3 ticket and use rental codes they are ineligible for on a gamble. These are the same people who expect those of us who do pay the extra for seats to move for them so they can sit by their kids, threaten that we won't want to sit by their kid and the kid will scream all the time, etc. Is the $$$ you are saving on this code worth it---are you willing to pay out of pocket even more when/if you are asked for ID, have an accident and find this great rate with full insurance won't cover you.

Also, imagine if everyone holds 2-3 car rental reservations for different companies. This depletes inventory and causes rates to go up and coupons to show invalid for rental period.

:confused3:sad2:

By any chance to you belong to the Fat Wallet car rental message board??

I for one have spent HOURS, UPON HOURSSSSS...and I'm still checking daily but if I do see a code on here someone posts of course I'm going to go try it and see if it brings my rate down. Isn't that why we're kind of here???? To share information?? I know I've shared codes/coupons on here. So you've never taken a code/coupon you've seen listed here and tried it to see if your rate is lower with it?? :confused3

I thought that post was odd too!:confused3 I didn't think the title of the thread was "Please give me a code!" Nor did I see anyone asking for a code on this thread. This thread was sharing a code and then people's questions about that code. Part of doing research is checking all the places, included disboards, to find codes! :confused3

For all the codes I have tried, both with corp IDs and coupons, it always tells you whether you will have to provide proof of ID or coupon. It will also tell you if an ID or coupon is invalid. So....if nothing flags you when using the ID code of 1, then why is it such a cardinal sin to use it?:confused3
And several people have called Alamo to question it and were told it was OK, so what is the big deal? Of course it could be some huge glitch and be pulled at anytime, so I would suggest having a backup plan. I would be curious to see if anyone was denied that code upon pickup.
Guess we'll have to wait and see?

IDK who wedcot is but I am on fatwallet. I have been in the transportation area for years and if you go read the reply to your post on those boards about this code you can figure out my user name.

Have a fun trip to Disney and use whatever code you wish.
I am going on a trip soon and don't need to worry about using an iffy code. I might pay a few more dollars but I know if there is any incident I will be fine.

:thumbsup2 Over the years I have been able to use many discount codes that I've found here so whenever I find a good one, I feel like I'm giving back when I share it.
As for the 1 id, I stated where I found it. I've Googled and tried to find what it is tied to but was unsuccessful and hoping that it works. I do have back up codes but not tied to a reservation. If I find one, I try it out and if I like the price, I jot it down in my travel book to use in case my primary codes don't work- I have never had that happen though. In this way, I am not tying up stock with multiple reservations.

Proof of ID with contract codes rarely is displayed during the booking process even though the agency ALWAYS reserves the right to ask for ID. Again, to reinforce, if the rate provided was just a reduced rate, sure, it's still wrong to use if you don't know its origin, but it probably won't be any issue.

The problem with this code in particular is all the "added" items, that are included with the rate. These added items are where the agencies make a good portion of their revenue and profits and are rarely, if ever, included in rates. If they are included its because a company has negotiated specific items (or again, it very well could be an internal use code for employees of the company) based on their rate agreements that factors in these additional coverages.

I will be nice in Disboard terms. You took the credit for finding this fantastic code on fatwallet. You claim YOUR friend found this code when you are NOT the original poster of this thread. I called you out on that. I did make an error in not seeing the time you posting asking about the code on those boards. But you sure made it seem like your friend found this fantastic code. I will apologize for not noting the time you posted compared to the time you posted your info on calling Alamo on these boards BUT I will say you were very misleading on FW with claiming YOUR FRIEND found this code.

Pot calling the kettle black on name calling....I guess I am 'rude' as you claim on FW.

BTW me and my Budget reservation using Costco code will have a fun time too! Hope you didn't use the travelocity one there is thread on here about being iffy.

Okay so I'm about to lose it!!:scared1:

I never said "My Friend". Go read it again. I said "I came upon it"..which I did...here.

How dare you!! You don't know me and frankly I'm VERY happy I don't know you. I posted on FW trying to find out if anyone there knew who/what the Corp. ID was for trying to HELP. That's all I was doing was trying to help! And now you're over there calling me a liar and a fraud!

Before you go bashing someone READ properly and get your facts straight! I called Alamo well after I posted on FW and here for that matter and as soon as I found out what Alamo told me I posted and update on these boards to INFORM people what I was told!

Well, I've seen arguments on the DIS before, but never have I seen people argue about what they did (or didn't) post on a completely separate board. I'm pretty sure that copying what someone posted on another board is against the DISboard policies. But, I must say I am finding it VERY amusing.

Invalid rental information? Since no one at Alamo seems to know what "1" is or Contract ID X is;(algebra, 1=X), then having an invalid reservation isn't an issue. I can't count how many times I have walked to a rental counter and en route been offered a lower rate than what I have had in my hand and have accepted that walking away from a reservation that I intended to keep. Its called competition.
