Fantastic Alamo code

We have been renting cars for years with all of the companies, and have never had to show anything more than a driver's license and credit card. I have never been asked to produce any form of membership to any group that I have booked cars under. Car rates change so often that a low rate wouldn't garner anyone's attention at the counter. All that agent wants to do is either upsell you to a larger car since they often do not have as many smaller cars available as they book, sell you to collision insurance and get you out the door. That said, I always have a back up reservation or two to fall back on.

Rates typically don't set off red flags, included options do, especially insurance coverages and other types of paid coverages.

This gave me a good rate for spring break in Arizona at the airport location. Currently I am renting offsite through Budget. Am I going to use this code...absolutely NOT!

To the person who said they have never been asked for the proof of membership...I have been asked by Alamo at check-in for my COSTCO card. Doesn't happen often but it does. If you can't produce that card or proof of ID at pick-up OR return (people have reported being asked at return) the company can and probably will raise rate to much more. You have no recourse on the credit card dispute as you provided false information to guarantee that rate.

As someone else mentioned...this includes insurance. What happens if (and consider all the drivers around Disney that don't know where they are going and make sudden lane changes or bang the car backing out or with their car doors) there is an accident .... you think you are fully covered. When Alamo makes the claim against this unknown company they will say we don't know this person. Once again...you can't produce ID saying you work for them you are out LOTS more money. Again, credit card dispute probably won't work...might give them a good laugh. You provided false information.

Oh, they don't check this code....well what about when all of a sudden hundreds of rentals at once place (MCO) are using this code. Don't you think they will start checking. I am sure they have a way of flagging rentals and make it so you can't use kiosk or ask for ID on return.

Not worth it if you want an opinion. Keep checking the rates using codes that are legit. Normally they go down right before trips. If you use and have no issues great....but it is risky. If you use it and get asked for ID or there are issues with insurance claim don't cry foul....you too a big risk and got caught.

I haven't tried it and I do not know where it comes from but I read about it on flyer talk. For the corporate id, type in the number 1 and then use whichever coupon you have. I have a rate of $264 for pick up of a midsized SUV at noon on April 30th and drop off at 5pm on May 8th. It includes insurance, surcharges, etc. Without using 1 for my dates but using a coupon, the rate is $709!
You may want to have a backup id and coupon just in case- I will- but I thought I'd share in case it does work. I have better things to do with $445!

thanks for sharing op. great post!

Entering a single digit in a field could be nothing more then a typo. Alamo needs to either have a pop up screen on the reservation screen or an entry on our confirmation that details the discount that was applied. GM employee discount, be prepared to show employee ID card. AAA discounted rate, be sure to have your AAA card with you when you pick up your rental car. Too many corporate codes? You booked using a corporate code. Please verify the code you entered is valid for your employer and make sure you have your employee ID card available when you pick up your car.

Book a hotel room and your confirmation states if you booked using a AAA or AARP rate. It states if you have an AP discounted rate.

Not listing the basis of the rate code motivates some customers to try random numbers. This is the first time I've seen a "glitch" rate work with a single digit.

I'll side with the customers, Alamo has no way of knowing if the customer made a typo or is intentionally trying to cheat.

I have been holding a minivan reservation for awhile at Budget using the X474200 code from Travelocity. I tried this code at Alamo and I still have a better rate. Apr 29 - May 7 Budget $329 (after coupon) and $371 at Alamo.

I just book a week (5 days) April 13-18 for $150.84 total (taxes and fees included) for an economy car. I used a coupon code I found on carrentalsavers.com I joined Alamo Insiders and then booked directly though the website using the coupon code here ----> NEW! Alamo Coupon, $40 off Weekly! For $40 off weekly - use Alamo coupon code AD4027JDO. Requires 5 day rental with Saturday night keep, use for rental pickup by 4/30/11. Blacked out for certain dates in some Hawaii, Las Vegas, California, New York and Arizona locations. No printout required.

And the location I picked offers pick-up service! Yay!

I think the key point that is missed (and that is the biggest issue) isn't so much the rate provided, but the extras that are included. When you see extras included that is a very restricted rate provided.

I actually cannot wait until the first person is denied a car on this corporate code and comes back on here to complain that Alamo didn't honor the reservation and had to pay more.

There is nothing more fluid than rental car rates...except maybe airline fares. ;)
They can change day to day. I book far out. Book a couple of agencies and then shop periodically before i go.

:laughing::laughing: I will be doing this with you!:laughing:

Some people just try to get the best rate whatever way they can. It is the extras as stated that will cause the flags. When someone gets hit by the person missing their exit to one of the parks or gets a big ding from someone opening that door extra wide to get their pooh sized family out of the car and the stroller for Tommy and Timmy who are 8 years old they will be crying! Also, this family will have the crocs with black socks and the fanny pack with the cooler full of food to take to the park. There will also be the large wheeled backpack too. The family will be in a rush so someone can hold the place in line while the others amble their way back to Haunted Mansion----stopping the stroller with the 8 year old twins in it (who by the way just get too tired to walk) in the middle of the walkway to open the cooler to get a snack. They will then proceed to cut in front of all of those who used this 'magical' code knowing they hit the doors 'just a little' but no worry to them since they drove their own car and just damaged someone elses in the lot.

This kind of reminds me of the 'magical' National Code a few years back!
Like I said I have been asked for a Costco card...just takes the right person to ask....
Just takes one accident or ding that wasn't there to be out hundreds of $$$ in damages, loss of use plus paying a higher rate. And as stated over and over credit card companies won't do a darn thing!

And its easy enough to walk down to the next counter where you have a back up reservation at another low rate. The goal of any agency is to rent the highest grade car for the highest rate but the ultimate goal is to rent out the inventory.

You might want to consider the premium rental coverage from Amex which activates for a fee of around $20 per car rental period. It covers the car, bumper to bumper for up to $50K. And that "hundreds of dollars of damage" is only to the level of your deductible. Your own car insurance covers the est. With regard to "loss of use", the car companies have to demonstrate that they are over 98% rented most of the time.

Except that the fine print of most (all?) credit card coverage is that you need to refuse the coverage provided by the car rental company. Since this "deal" includes all coverage, the "deal" nullifies most credit card coverage - leaving you the renter to pay all of the damage.

I will still have to initial that I accept the coverage, which I will decline. As I said, if that is still stipulated, I can walk down to the next counter where I will have another option.
