Fantasmic - second show question

Some friends are visiting Hollywood Studios between Christmas and New Year's, so crowds will be heavy. On their day, there are 2 Fantasmic shows - 8pm and 9:30pm. If they want to see the second show, what time should they arrive at the theatre (no fast pass or dinner package)? The first show will be letting out at 8:30pm, so what time should they start lining up?

Seating for the 2nd show will begin at 9:00. They should probably line up at 8:30 if they don't have a FP.

On New Year's Day a few years ago, we watched the 1st Fant, exited and by the time we walked back to the Hollywood and Sunset intersection, the end of the Fant line for the 2nd show had just about reached there. When the line began moving, we joined it and didn't have a problem finding seats but this was before FP was added for the show.

Your friends should try for a FP as their 4th FP of the day.

Thanks for the info! I will be sure to tell them. I wish they could get a 4th fast pass for the show, but they are visiting this park on their arrival day for only a few hours during the late afternoon/evening. Their tier 1 FP is Toy Story Mania, and they probably won't have time to get any 4th fast pass that day. Thanks again!
