We were thinking that we would like to try a Fantasmic Dinner Package during our Oct. 02 trip, but when I read a negative review about the H&V, I thought I would throw it out to the pros on the Disboards. Is it worth it? And if so, which restaurant would be the best? Any opinions would be appreciated.

The actual price of the Fantasmic dinner package is simply what you usually pay for the meal at H&V, Brown Derby or Mama Melrose (the three choices). It assures you a seat at Fantasmic without having to wait in line. Thus it is worth doing unless there are two Fantasmics the night you go and you are going to second one (which never fills and you can walk in very shortly before show starts through regular entry). Not sure what you saw about H&V. Personally consider it a very good buffet meal, mainly American faire--meats, fish, potatoes, veges etc. for which it is hard to screw up --and have always been treated fine by CM's there.

Thank you for the feedback. I know...I should realize that these are only opinions. This particular person just had nothing good to say about H&V. I, personally, have never had a "bad" experience at WDW, just some that are better than others. I think just to avoid the wait would be nice for our six year old, so we will likely sign up for the package.

On the opinion issue, I once read of the San Angel Inn by one diner that it was nice to be in the coolness after a day in the sun and that the lighting and the river made it very romantic. Next opinion: "It was cold, it was dark, it was damp!" The same reasons one liked it for were the same reasons the other disliked it. So I guess we have to remind ourselves that although there is a great deal of valuable information on the board, we still cannot
let anybody's experience be ours.

Thanks again!:smooth:

We did the Hollywood and Vine for the fantasmic package with a picky 9year old our last trip and liked it very much. We found the food simple, hot and delicious. There was plenty for my picky son and he loved the ice cream bar. The service was some of the best we had anywhere. The waitress was so funny and told my DS that she would check back to see if he had eaten enough to check out the ice cream bar. We got our pass and were at the show about 30-minutes before it started. Got great seats and loved the show. 100% worth it!!!

Would definately recommend doing the package, especially with children. As i t involves no queueing/ no standing in lines.

We had our package meal in Mama Melroses & had a beautiful meal, with lovely atmosphere.

They had a childrens menu too but I can't remember what was on it. Sorry!!! But I'm sure you'll find details here on the boards.

We did the FDP twice. Once at H & V and once at Mama Melrose. IMHO Mama Melrose was a better meal. It was a nicer atmosphere and I thought the food was better. It was also cheaper as you could order one of the flatbreads (pizzas) which were cheaper than the buffet price at H&V. The food at the buffet was okay, but pretty mediocre fare. The dessert table for example had a make your own sundae section (which we did like), brownies, and a strawberry cake, key lime tart and that was it. They were pretty standard bulk items. We were also able to make our MM PS for much earlier than H&V, which allowed us to explore more of MGM. JMHO.

Are any of the restaraunts offered on the package "fun"? We love prime time because the CM's make it so fun. If we do the dinner package would not be able to eat at prime time, and I just dont know if I could stand it, BUT, not waiting an hour for fantasmic to start with a 4 and 2 year old sure would be nice!!

I don't know if this was just a weirdness when we were there in August, but the majority of the seatings for the dinner package were in non-traditional dinner hours, the latest being 4, 4:30ish.

Just a thought.
