We've never done this - we've actually never done Fantasmic either despite several trips to WDW. (Long story - things conspired against us each time ;) )

I know how the FDP works but I'm wondering which restaurant to book at. I would love to hear your thoughts on the following restaurants:

Hollywood & Vine (we did the character breakfast here in 2002 before it was discontinued)
Mama Melrose's (never been)
Brown Derby (really like the look of the menu)

What are your experiences, good and bad?

Hiya

We've eaten twice at H&V and really do enjoy the atmosphere and range of food in the buffet. The choice might come down to the make-up of the party - we've 2 kinds and they love buffets so it's a relatively striaghtforward choice for us.

Unfortunately, never tried the other 2.

Garry

Its hard to remember what the food was but we ate at H&V and it was nice alot too choose from and we wern't rushed. We went to Mama Melrose for lunch and we all had pizza it was nice but out of the 2 i would definatly do H&V for Fantasmic package.
Eating in restaurant in florida is so stress free i don't think we had a bad experience any where.

We ate at H & V. We chose it over the other two because we also find buffets easier with kids. Food was absolutely delicious :wizard: and kids can select from the adult section as well.:flower:

I hope you manage to get to Fantasmic this time. After seeing Cinderellas castle for real, it was the major highlight of our holiday.

Hi

We went to Hollywood & Vine last year, as with nine of us we had to look at the most cost effective package for the FDP - in line with the comments from the other posters we were extremely impressed with the choice and service, particularly with some picky eaters who could have as much of exactly what they wanted.
If I was going back again I would certainly go there and would not hesitate in recommending it to you!!

We've booked H&V for the Fantsmic Dinner Package this year. We've never done Fastamic either Karen, so you're not alone. Was always worried kids would be a bit frightened - but this year hopefully they'll be brave enough.
I'll probably get kicked out though as I'll be cheering on the villains!!! ;) :bitelip:

I'll let you know what we think of H&V!!

Hi Karen

I picked H&V, as we ate at Mama Melrose's on a previous occasion and didn't think much of the food. Plus there is the kids, if you have picky eaters then you know that there is always going to be something for them to eat at H&V.

You'll love Fantasmic.....its.....mmmm.....let me think.........FANTASMIC :)

We have eaten at Hollywood & Vine lots of times. It was better as a character meal, but it still offers a good value buffet. I did think it had gone downhill this year, but there was still plenty of choice.

The best thing about doing H&V on the FDP is you dont pay any extra for it. With the other two restaraunts you have to pick from a limited menu. Also, as you are going in the summer months, there is a chance Fantasmic could be cancelled due to a storm (this happened to us in July 03). If you book H&V at least you dont lose out IF the worst happens and its cancelled.

Mama Melrose always seems to get iffy reviews and we arent over keen on pasta / pizza anyway. The Brown Derby looks nice and would probably be our choice if it were just me and Neil. Hollywood & Vine is brilliant for kids as there is so much choice. The ice cream bar is a BIG fave with our kids!

Happy choosing!

Hi Miffy,

W have been to both H&V and Brown Derby,

H&V, Buffet style, plenty of choice, good service and great for kids (not sure if you have kids or their ages). ::MinnieMo ::MickeyMo

Brown Derby, I think their menu was lovely, the decor was a bit luxurious as was the atmosphere, there was a man playing the piano when we were there (very relaxing) it was a few years ago but it's my choice. Also we had our 2 dd's with us and they are fussy eaters, you do get a kids menu (or used to) but ours actualy preferred a change from the usual chicken strips/hot dogs. It was on the expensive side but IMHO it's worth it for a treat! :goodvibes

Luv Audrey,

hi, we did H&V FDP twice when we were there in august 03, great food but my DD is a picky eater but likes pizza and pasta so we have a PS for mama melrose FDP this year, I know it has had mixed reviews but you have to try it yourself really. the FDP is great for us, i don't have the most patient children (or Husband!) in the world and both times we got there about half hour before, great seats and enough of a wait to enjoy the build up without getting bored.
Have a great time.

WE did H&V last year. The food was great and our server was exceptional. Even though it was a buffet he was very attentive and social. When he saw we had the FDP he was busting with tips and info for us. WE enjoyed the atmosphere here as well. As for the Fantasmic VIP portion, That is the only way to go in my opinion. No need to wait you get in before anyone else, great seats and its not too long of a wait.

Have fun Fantasmic is 1 of our Fav Shows

another vote for H&V i thought it was great.....food and service were both wonderful i would def go again :)

Another vote for H&V here :goodvibes We've eaten there twice now and have adored it, we're going back in October too. The food is delicious, and there is a great choice.

Wow guys,

what a great response! Thank you so much :) :)

We did Fantasmic package at H&V last year and would recommend it. V.xxx

Hollywood and Vine - Brilliant, we love buffets anyway. So the choice of different food here was great.

Mama Melrose - Really liked it here, the food was great too.

Brown Derby - I didn't think much of this place, but then I am a fussy eater.

We have picked to go back to H&V this year :)

we've done the package4 at bot H&V & Mama Melrose. the food at MM was good but we went before you had to choose from a limited menu.

If we went back again would choose H&V especially with kids

when you say limited menu what do you get to choose from?
ive just changed my package from mama melrose to hollywood and vine.

Hi Lesley,

This is the menu from Mama Melrose for Fantasmic:

Mama Melrose $28.99 adult/$9.99 child (3-11) not including admission, tax, and gratuity. Child's meal includes beverage and dessert. Your choice of one wood-fired Flatbread to share from Mama's rustic on-stage kitchen, as well as family style salad, and choice of entrees featuring Linguine Fra Diavolo, Oven Baked Stuffed Chicken Breast, and Char Grilled Filet Mignon with Gorgonzola Butter. Dessert: Mama's signature Fantasmic! Tiramisu. Alcoholic beverages NOT included.

Very happy to hear all good comments about H & V. (Want to add--BD was absolutely delightful back in 2001--but we're looking to trying something new.) Just booked FDP for H & V for June--given a 4:20 seating time. Does anyone know if later times will/may open up as we get closer to June? 4:20 is just too early for us. I still don't understand why they don't have later seatings with the FDP. Anyone able to book a later seating?
