I have read everywhere that a "fanny pack" is really helpful while touring. Never owned one and always thought they looked pretty silly .
I don't want to be looking back at pictures and going "what was I thinking"
How many of you actually use a fanny/hip pack ? Post Pictures !

I really don't want to offend anyone but I do think they look silly. I can see how useful, effecient and wonderful they are but I just cannot ever see myself wearing one of those. HAVING SAID THAT, I wear Crocs all the time and I know several people here would say the same things about those. :rotfl2:
I prefer to just use a small sling backpack.

I wear a fanny pack on all my Disney trips. However, I take them off for pictures. That is one of the reasons that I wear one. It is easy to snap on & off for the pictures but doesn't add any weight to my back. We don't carry much in the parks but it is more than we can carry in pockets. Comfort is more important to me than fashion. I'd rather look back and think I looked silly in a picture than end the day miserable because I was carrying a purse or backpack and was in pain.

I wear a travel vest...much less silly looking, better for pics, can carry a whole lot more, doesn't get in your way on rides/attractions, and DON'T HAVE TO GO THROUGH BAGCHECK!
Oh, and by the way, I have bought a much more stylish one in black since my signature pic was taken. This one is a men's, and was a little large.

I use a fanny pack all the time. I really dont care about fashion statements. I prefer to think of it as convenience. My hands are free and I dont have to worry about leaving anything behind because it is always with me. Also, I dont end up caring everyone else's junk.:thumbsup2 This way it limits what I take into the park to the most essentials. Also, my kids are older (17, 21, and 24) so they take care of their own stuff.

Use one all summer long! Not just Disney.
I like my hands free.
I don't much care what anyone thinks. :p

My DW wears one every day on every trip.
To be honest, I don't really notice it. But she always knows where our passes, money, pins, etc. are.

I am the one sporting a fanny pack and Minnie ears...every trip! I could care less if I look like a tourist...oh wait...I AM a tourist! :rotfl2:

I get a headache if I have a purse slung over my shoulder all day...so I bought a leather fanny pack, and carry everything I need. It has about 5 zipper compartments that hold my cards, our passes, my sunglasses (when I am inside), my camera, some band-aids and kleenexes...I love it!

When we are taking pictures, I just swing it around to the back (a true "fanny" pack)...when I am riding, the seatbelt goes underneath it, and when we are at shows, I take it off and hold it.

Honestly, I don't go on any day trip without one. I need my "stuff", but I hate carrying a bag all day! Give it a try! Who cares what everyone thinks...you are on vacation! To each his own...personally, I wouldn't be seen sporting crocs on my feet! ;)

I prefer a sling bag or a long, thin strapped purse that can go across my shoulders, and I am for the most part "hands free", too. :goodvibes

I wouldn't go without one whether they look silly to someone else or not. We go hiking and I always wear one when doing that and to theme parks. They'll hold everything you need right at your finger tips and don't weigh you down.

My first 5 or 6 trips to WDW i used a small backpack. It held everything but it was uncomforable and I was always taking it off and on (ie, getting on rides). Last year for the first time I used a fanny pack. It was great. I could leave it on for just about all the rides and everything I wanted was right in front of me, not on my back.

I don't care if some people think it looks silly. I see plenty of things on other people that are far worse than silly. When we return next April I will certainly be using my fanny pack again.

:cheer2: :cheer2: :cheer2:

I, unfortunately, am a slave to fashion and therefore would not wear one. I have a very small Kipling backpack that DH and I always bring with us to amusement parks. It's masculine enough that we can take turns carrying it, and it's small enough to turn around and wear on our chests during more energetic rides.

There are some other options, though, some better looking fanny packs than the little bubble looking things that are traditional fanny packs. A google search some yield some less tacky results.

I have also worn cargo pants with zippers and haven't needed to carry anything else, that's the way to go!

I have a great "waistpack" from L.L..Bean that I got about 5 yrs ago for hiking, and I use it for WDW as well. It holds wallet, phone, mini first aid kit, chapstick, sunscreen, wipes and camera, plus has two holsters on the sides for water bottles. I probably look like a complete dork, in fact I hope I do. Yes, my name is Liz, and I'm a Disney dork! (And proud of it!!!!!)

Hi
When I was in DW in Dec., I had a little purse that I wore across my chest. By the end of 5 days, I wished I had brought my fanny pack with me since my shoulder was hurting so bad. So in August, I wore the purse one day and the fanny pack the rest of the week. A lot of peope were wearing them, and it was just so much more comfortable for me to wear it. I didn't have any shoulder pain. I did take it off for some pictures (when I remembered).

I'm for the Fanny Packs!
I have carpal tunnel syndrome and cannot hold anything for more than a few minutes. My DH holds a backpack and my kids go from backpack to fannypack depending on their mood.
I had my regular fanny pack on one trip and I saw this lady with The Mother of All Fanny Packs...You know when people see something awesome and it's surrounded by an aura and you can hear the heavenly choir? That's what I experienced when I saw this. She was a new mom and instead of a baby bag, she had this huge fanny pack on!
So I made it my mission to seek out new big fanny packs.....
To Boldly go where no mom has gone before!
Well, I got one. It holds EVERYTHING, my camera, my video camera, everything I normally fit into my fanny pack, water bottle, Misty Mate, etc.
It's not as big as that mom's I saw, but it's big enough!
I got it at EMS, it's a North Face pack.

Here's me with my regular fanny pack on, plus I have my camera bag and my Misty Mate attached to the fanny pack strap:

Here's me and my girls a few years back. They both have their fanny packs on and I have my Mother Of All Fanny Packs on. Notice my water bottle with the Mickey straw:

Here's me and DH after he got The Works at the barber shop.
My video camera is outside the bag, but normally it fits into The Mother Of All Fanny Packs. If you notice, it even has clips on the front so you can hang your sunglasses on it (I think you can hang three or four pairs off the front:

Here's a cool fanny pack I want to get for my next trip. I saw it on some lady on our trip to MNSSHP last October. She's wearing it on her fanny. I normally don't snap photos of ladies' fannies, but I just Loved this fanny pack!

It won't fit my video camera, but my DH can hold that in his back pack next time.

No, I'm sorry, but Fanny Packs will definitely exclude you from Mr. Blackwell's list of The Best Dressed, but you know what? You're in Disney and you're there to have a Great Time! Part of having a great time is to be as comfortable as you can, and if lugging a backpack or a pocketbook around isn't fun to you, then just get a Fanny Pack! Besides, you're not gonna see these people when you get home, right?
Have fun!

I have mine on in my picture I think, if not I have the purple tinkerbell one. I use to had the sling bags but after getting a few tan line too many and getting annoyed I went to the fanny.

WHERE did you get that? I want it for our next trip. ;) Do you mind sharing???

I'm "pooh sized" and a fanny pack just doesn't work for me at all. I have a small sling Winnie the Pooh bag that works for me & also a Disney sling bag that I got that I can slip the purse in for longer days when I need to take more into a park. I'm also one of those people that wears Crocs to the parks, but my crocs are the flip flops. Sneaks at AK, Croc flip flops everywhere else. Gotta be comfortable! :goodvibes

I soooo completely understand not wanting to look like a dork!!! I don't like fanny packs either! HOWEVER, I went online and found the coolest/sporty/girly one that I could find and it was by Dakine. It is big enough to hold sunglasses, compact camera, tissues, bandaids, tickets, credit cards and cell phone. Most of those items thin and small. I also begged my husband to wear the guy version, so can also carry his phone and sunglasses and anything else. Now I did buy my 2 DD's kid size fanny packs (the dorky kind) in pink and purple - but on delivery I found out they aren't big enough to hold the autograph books, so I will have to order others. My DS passsed on the fanny pack and instead is wearing cargo shorts with zippered pockets for phone. (p.s. I think the newer more trendier term is "hip packs"! :thumbsup2 )
