Fanny Packs

EMS - Eastern Mountain Sports.
I also googled Fanny Pack, Waist Pack and checked out soooo many different websites. But I got this at the EMS at the mall.

You're in TN, maybe you live close by to one of those big outdoor shops I always see advertised on HGTV?
Good Luck with your search, Grasshopper:hippie:

BTW, my Mother Of All Fanny Packs has this cushioned-quilted-lining on the side that faces my body. It is meant to be worn on your lower back, that's why it's cushioned, but with all the valuables stashed inside, and my being a NY'er, I keep all my valuables in front of me!

My girls also tried those pseudo-backpacks with the strings and they HATED them, the strings just dug into their shoulders.

BTW, I never thought of my looking like a dork while wearing my fanny pack. Personally, I really don't care if anyone thinks I look like a dork, either.
My dad has photos of when I was in high school and we vacationed at MK in July. I wore jeans, sneakers, my studded thick leather belt (Madonna style) and a trendy cotton shirt that wrinkled the second the humidity hit it. :scared:
In the 95+ degree weather, I"M SURE I looked like a dork then....but a dork with my fanny pack? I think not:snooty:

Thanks...last night I googled Face Pack and found their website....I think I am gonna order either the Roo waist pack or the Page backpack. Thay have LOTS of cool stuff!!!

I always use them on vacation! Even when I visit New York City for a day (like this past Sunday). It's so much easier not having to lug around my purse. Even though it's not that big, it can be a real pain on my shoulder and gets in the way. So I downsize to the fanny pack.

I just put my keys, wallet, pen, calculator and cell phone in it. Just the stuff I need. Everything else that I may have in my purse, stays home with it.

I don't like the feel of a fanny pack (not a big fan of belts, either, since I have a short torso), so I use a small messenger bag that goes over my head and one shoulder. I carry some snacks, water botle, sunscreen, lip gloss, tickets, small wallet and camera (small and light).

I don't understand why people think fanny packs look so bad. How is it any worse than a back pack? It's not like any of us are wearing them with formal wear. I've seen some way sillier looking things in the parks than fanny packs.

Our whole family uses them. I agree there not the coolest looking things, but I'm not at Disney for a fashion show! My DW uses a small strap backpack and I sling mine. The shape of them works well slung and doesn’t look like a purse. My kids love the freedom of having their own snacks, a place to put their sunglasses… We make “Ouch Kits” for them (band aids, ointments…) They save their money from birthdays etc. and we get them pre-paid VISA’s they carry, so the packs, while not glamorous, we consider essential. It makes the kids feel special! Its like anything, the parents view will make all the difference. :thumbsup2

Sure I look silly, but who cares? I have all my stuff and I won't need put it down and forget it or have to carry my stuff in a purse or backpack or something.

I do often take it off for pictures.

Another vote for the fannypack. :thumbsup2
As another poster stated.. if others can wear those large plastic Croc shoes in the name of comfort then my small black fannypack shouldn't be an issue.

I'm for the Fanny Packs!
I have carpal tunnel syndrome and cannot hold anything for more than a few minutes. My DH holds a backpack and my kids go from backpack to fannypack depending on their mood.
I had my regular fanny pack on one trip and I saw this lady with The Mother of All Fanny Packs...You know when people see something awesome and it's surrounded by an aura and you can hear the heavenly choir? That's what I experienced when I saw this. She was a new mom and instead of a baby bag, she had this huge fanny pack on!
So I made it my mission to seek out new big fanny packs.....
To Boldly go where no mom has gone before!
Well, I got one. It holds EVERYTHING, my camera, my video camera, everything I normally fit into my fanny pack, water bottle, Misty Mate, etc.
It's not as big as that mom's I saw, but it's big enough!
I got it at EMS, it's a North Face pack.

Here's me with my regular fanny pack on, plus I have my camera bag and my Misty Mate attached to the fanny pack strap:

Here's me and my girls a few years back. They both have their fanny packs on and I have my Mother Of All Fanny Packs on. Notice my water bottle with the Mickey straw:

Here's me and DH after he got The Works at the barber shop.
My video camera is outside the bag, but normally it fits into The Mother Of All Fanny Packs. If you notice, it even has clips on the front so you can hang your sunglasses on it (I think you can hang three or four pairs off the front:

Here's a cool fanny pack I want to get for my next trip. I saw it on some lady on our trip to MNSSHP last October. She's wearing it on her fanny. I normally don't snap photos of ladies' fannies, but I just Loved this fanny pack!

It won't fit my video camera, but my DH can hold that in his back pack next time.

No, I'm sorry, but Fanny Packs will definitely exclude you from Mr. Blackwell's list of The Best Dressed, but you know what? You're in Disney and you're there to have a Great Time! Part of having a great time is to be as comfortable as you can, and if lugging a backpack or a pocketbook around isn't fun to you, then just get a Fanny Pack! Besides, you're not gonna see these people when you get home, right?
Have fun!

I noticed from the pic that your DH does not wear a fanny pack. In fact you seem to be carrying everything., LOL . And just an observations that not everyone will look as good as you do wearing a fanny pack! Would your DH wear a pack ?

My DH W I L L N E V E R wear a fanny pack:rotfl:
He said he would rather carry around a boulder in his backpack then wear one of them......
This year the backpack will be a little lighter. The girls are much older now and they can carry their own stuff!

I like the idea of the pre-paid VISA for the trip instead of the cash. My youngest is one of those people who will take twenty $1 bills and crumple them into little balls and never know how much money she has.

I saw a Yeti backpack on my last trip but I didn't get it. Now I'm regretting it. Did anyone see that?

I wear one. To me carrying a pocketbook at WDW looks far sillier, but people do, even people who would never take a pocketbook on a day long hike (which is what WDW is for us!) A backpack seems like overkill to me. At night I like cargo shorts that have secure zippers -- I don't need much but my room key, some cash, id and car keys -- but during the day when I need my sunglasses and a small sun lotion stick, a fanny pack does the trick.

This November when I do my solo trip I'll be sticking a paperback in there as well!

I wear a Columbia fanny pack (in navy blue) that I got from a sporting goods store five years back. So far, so good.

I'm not a fan of the fanny pack look either, but when I'm at Disney, I don't much care what I look like. Having said that, I don't find a fanny pack is big enough for everything I want to carry so I bring a backpack. Although I do have a fanny pack for spending a few hours at DTD or somewhere where I'm going to travel light. I usually don't actually attach it around my waist. Usually carry it more like a shoulder bag.

I'm not a fan of the fanny packs either, but have purchased one for everyone in the family except for the littlest one, hehe. We bought the Mountainsmith Tours, which I found out about here on the boards. It's fairly big, bigger than a normal fanny pack, but smaller than a backpack. It can fit everything we need without worrying about leaving anything valuable in the stroller, but can still stay on our person during rides. I will be keeping my video camera in it. It's extremely confortable (I think they're made for hiking, lol), and can convert to a normal shoulder/shoulder across chest bag if you don't like the look of wearing it on your waist. They're normally about $80, but you can find them sometimes on Amazon for around $50.
We bought the kids normal ones from Walmart for ten bucks, which are perfect for holding their sunglasses, sanitizer, handheld games, etc. I am worried about how ours big are, but will report when we get back:love:

i love my fanny pack. nothing extra to hold. don't have to worry about did i bring film, battereis, memory cards,ID,sun screen, ponchos or whatever we need at anyplace. my fanny pack is mainly for my video camera,ID and meds. i wear mine to baseball, football, nascar or other fun events. just never know what you will need. and helps to keep my hands free.
