We are up at 5.00am, yes 5.00am! I wanted to phone my dad and it would have been 10.00 here, Ian phones his mam and dad, and then we have a some coffee and juice before the pressie opening. I got a plush Lady, I love Lady, an angel Bear from the Hard Rock, a beautiful Mickey silver charm bracelet and lots of little Disney bits and pieces, Ian was really pleased with his cd's, margaritaville insulated mug, and was very impressed with the huge bag of jelly beans, we both gots lots of lovely pressies. By the time we had opened the pressies it was about 7.15 and we decide to head to the Magic Kingdom, the original plan had been not to go to a park, but we both were both of the same mind that we had to go there on Christmas Day.
We headed to the bus stop and were both really pleased that the first bus was a MK bus, until we were well out of Saratoga and the announcement said "We are on our way to Disneys Animal Kingdom"
I think we both must have been half asleep when we got on the bus, we get a bus from the Animal Kingdom to Epcot, and then the Monorail to the TTC, it was a bit of an adventire on Christmas morning, and I think it must have been when we were getting to the monorail at Epcot that Mandy may have spotted Ians blue hat. We eventually get to the MK and it is not too crowded, we ride Pirates, Buzz and maybe two more things, we have brunch booked at Chef Mickeys and make our way from the park, I have never seen anything like it, it was packed, literally shoulder to shoulder on Main Street, it was a real fight to get out of there !
We get the monorail across to the Contemporary for our brunch, there were lots of the usual breakfast items, and also prime rib, ham and potatoes etc, it was very good and we got to meet the Main Mouse and his mates.
I had really been looking forward to seeing the gingerbread house at the Grand Floridian so we get on the monorail, and head over there, there was a chef doing demonstrations of the mini houses, and she has a young girl helping her to decide which characters to use, and which colours, when she was finished she gave the house to the girl, it was lovely to see this as you could tell she was really overwhelmed and wouldn't stop saying thank you. We got some pictures taken in front of tree. We visited the resort about ten years ago and I must be honest I thought it was very stuffy, I guess we are now older and wiser and I can now see while people rave about this place it is stunning, and not at all stuffy!
We decide to head back to Saratoga and spend a relaxing afternoon sipping champaigne and popping out to the balcony to watch the world go by, we were both so chilled out, it was a real effort to get ready for our dinner at Blue Zoo, but we managed to drag ourselves out of the room and over to The Dolphin.
Neither of us had been here before and we got a bit lost trying to find the restaurant, we ended up going in through the back entrance and wandering through the restaurant to the bar
We sit at the bar and have a martini which was very good. I was so, so nervous to be here, I am not a huge fish eater and I was worried about what I would eat, would I be out of place in such a nice restaurant etc. Ian, however, loves seafood and this is why I picked this for Christmas Day.
Our waiter was a lovey, I think he could see how nervous I was and went out if his way to help me with the fish selections. We shared the Littleneck Clam Flatbread to start, and that was very good, Ian had the Dancing Fish, and I went with the Simply Fish with a Dijon Mustard Sauce, we also got the Shake and Bake Fries, as they are raved about on the DIS. We finished off with the strawberry selection, which was basically a sampler of strawberries finished in different ways, one was just like a toffee apple, a toffee strawberry, I am not sure what the wine we had was, but it was white and dry.
I did enjoy the meal, I don't think I would go back, and now that Ians curiousity about the place has been satisfied I think he is happy. We leave the restaurant and I make a new friend just outside the Dolphin, he is so drunk I cant understand a word he is saying, I now know how the Churchills and Stringers feel when I am drunk
I managed to catch Manchester United and Jellyrolls and that was about it, he was obviously happy though and full of festive spirit.
We get back to Saratoga and have a nightcap, it was a wonderful Christmas Day, I hope next year is as special, we have both made up our minds that we won't be going to one of the resort restaurants for dinner next year we were both so chilled on Christmas afternoon, that I think we will prefer to just wander over to Downtown Disney and eat at one of the restaurants there.
