When we checked out at Saratoga, they told us to be back as early as we could, and this would give us more chance of getting the room we had requested, so we are up this morning and packed in the blink of an eye. I need to check out and horray I get my lovely, cheery receptionist again, she prints off my receipt and bids me a sarcastic Byyyyeeeeee, I respond with my own Byyyyeeeee much to Ians mortification, I check my bill and they have not charged me the nine dollars for the safe I was not to touch, in a peverse way this gives me an enourmous sense of satisfaction, and I leave the DoubleTree happy
Would we go back there, yes, apart from Miss Stroppy the room was great, and the staff were fab, that being said we have booked a King Suite at The Fairfield Inn which is just around the corner for this year, so we will need to compare.
We are soon back at Saratoga, and the little Princess at Check In informs me that we have Congress Park, upper floor, water view, I do a little dance. We are on the Dining Plan for this part of the trip so I hand over $1013 for the thirteen nights. The room is not ready yet, we didn't expect it would be so we head off to Walmart to stock up. We go to the new one which is not far from Disney, it is huge and we have a good old wander around. I have to try and remember what we bought, a garland and some big red bows for our balcony, and a holly light for the window. Ian got some shiny new screwdriver bits and some adjustable pliers, he assures me that they are much cheaper over there, $13 dollars for both. I have some new jammies and slippers ready for Santa, we stock up on milk, coffee, orange juice, and of course wine and beer, we also get a bottle of champaigne ready for Christmas Day. I also get a phone card, which was a great bargain, ten dollars and I got about an hour and a half worth of calls to the UK out of it, we phoned home more and had longer conversations than normal as it was Christmas and New Year, and this turned out to be a great buy. There is a lady outside collecting for the Salvation Army, she has a little bell, which she is constantly ringing and shouting Happy Holidays, the poor love, I am so suprised her arm didn't fall off with all that waving of the bell.
We head back and the room is still not ready so we park the car up at Congres Park and walk over to the MarketPlace, where we eat lunch at Pucks, our first counter service of the Dining Plan, Ian gets the Spicy Chicken Pizza and I have the Linguini with tomato and basil, with a chocolate brownie each for dessert. As I have mentioned previously we both love it here and it doesn't disappoint.
A quick stop at Captain Jacks for a margarita and a rum runner, before back to Saratoga, and a quick phone call confirms that the room is ready.
Crikey me, what a view, straight out at The Empress Lily, and we have one of those enclosed balconys which is new to us, but was a godsend when it got windy at night, we could still sit out quite late and not get cold. We unpack and re-decorate not quite to Peggys standard, we place our garland and bows on the balcony and then settle in for the afternoon, with some beer and wine, glad to be back, and gladder still to have such a perfect location. Here are some piccies of our balcony, its the one with the bows, I hope you can make it out.
While we were out on the balcony before going out for the evening we noticed how many people had trimmed up, there were trees and lights, one family even had an inflatable Santa on their balcony, it was all very festive.
We walk to Downtown Disney and then catch a bus to The Animal Kingdom Lodge, there is a brass band in the lobby which was lovely and their tree was mighty impressive, I am sorry that the picture is so dark ...
Tonights dinner is at Jiko, a new place for us, our waitress is Patty, she was our waitress at Concourse Steakhouse last year, it is a small world, I am sorry that I don't have any pics of the food but it was delicious, and we would definately go back, it was our first time at using two table services for one meal, and it was well worth it. For starters Ian had Ahi Tuna Two Ways and I had the Chanterelle Soup, followed by Seared Pacific Halibut for Ian and the Filet Mignon for me, I can see why people rave over this it was fab.
Desert was Home Made Lemon Curd and Pistachio Cremem Brulee, this was all washed down with something very white and dry and two expressos. It's a lovely restaurant, the food was fab, and the service was great.
We waddle out of there and get a bus back to Saratoga for a sit out on the balcony watching the world go by.
Aplogies for the lack of pics today, but it was an in between sort of day moving from one place to another, here are some of our photopasses to make up for it ...
