Fan Club Card

I booked RPR hotel with my fan club card discount but had to show it at check in. I also used my card for 10% discount at various eateries and in all the Universal shops.

Sorry to be the bearer of bad news but the fan club may not be of any use to anyone whos company is not in the scheme officialy it now states on the fan club website that the name of your employer must be given at check in also the card does not get any dining discounts or merchandise discounts now period which tinkerbarb has also stated in previous posts obviously Universal must be aware of these cards being given out to non members and they are tightening up their system

I wonder if they will allow "Independants" Like members of the Dis, or people who got the cards from car dealership promotions to continue. I think I will do some checking...

Yes please let us know. My correspondence from hotel said that I must show proof that I work at the corporation my fan card is from...Looks like I'll be cancelling my ressie...

I got my fan club card at my credit union. So before you cancel anything see if your local credit union, or bank has them.

I'm also concerned that the hotel may not accept my card at check-in.

I know of a few companies that distribute these cards unfortuenetly I don't work for them..........I could "name drop" one of them at check in if I had to but the card has a number on the back. Does that identify the company that distributed it?

(Too bad I couldn't book the ENT rate. Atleast I legitimately have that card LOL. )

Hopefully, Tinkerbarb or someone "in the know" will be able to put our minds at ease.

I purchased tickets to universal via the fan club web page and they have been charged to my credit card.


TODAY I get an e-mail stating I need to contact them with the name and address of the company so they can verify my fan club membership!!!!!!!!

Since they have been charged to my credit card already, sould I just assume they will be sent to me?

I am also concerned about my room reservation also booked at the fan club rate. (It was booked before all this new stuff came about with the fan club)

bb&ally'smom, they want to know for marketting purposes, I e-mailed Barb earlier today for the best answer to give them...You can tell them you got the card from an Auto Dealership running a promotion, I think that will work, but I would wait a couple of days for Barb to get a response.....

* If you book your trip thru the fan club web site, and use the membership only code, you will be asked to verify your membership. Since cards are being phased out and they don't expect new members to have cards, they will ask for your company name. This makes perfect sense.
Right now, anyone with a computer can find the web site and the code, so they need to implement some kind of control.

But:
since there are many cards still out there (because they do not have expiration dates)
* No matter what type of card you have, it will be accepted at CHECK IN.
* If you "no longer" work for the company you got your card from, it will be accepted.
* If you got your card from "AAA, your credit union, a car dealership promotion, etc..", it will be accepted.
* If you are a "family member" of the person you got your card from, it will most likely be accepted.

Please remember that the fan club is a FREE program to qualifying companies and if you are not a legitimate member things could change at any time. The best discount deals are with the Entertainment card and with AAA, which of course makes sense because you pay for those memberships.

I have to apologize, because I am still not following.
If I show a card at check in, will they still ask me for my company or where I got the card??

And if they do ask, what is my response?

I do not want to lose the fan club rate I now have. It is much less than the AAA rates.

They are asking folks for the company name when you are making new reservations because anyone can access the web page right now and get the code. If you are not a member, you are using the code at your own risk.

You should not be asked for your card or a company name at check in, BUT some are still being told to show their card.

FYI: Fan Club cards do NOT have expiration dates on them, so you could have a card from a company you don't work for anymore. You could have gotten it from a promo deal at a car dealership; you may have even gotten one from your AAA office or you old credit union.

You have a reservation in your hand; you have a fan club card.
I'm sure if pressured you can give an "appropriate" answer.
