The kids and I left home (just outside Vancouver, B.C. Canada) on the 2:30pm ferry and went to my parents place to feed the kids an early dinner so we could drive to our first campsite without stopping. DH met us at my parents after work, about 4:30pm and we were off. We crossed the border at the truck crossing and made great time. The kids were impressed when we explained we were in a whole new country and they asked lots of questions (I was feeling better about taking my 6 year old out of school now!) It was about this time that I realized I'd left our camping stove in the garage at home...oops.
Our fist stop was at a campsite just south of Bellingham called Larrabee State Park. He park was beautiful, lovely rocky beach, great playground and private campsites. However, our site backed right onto the road and there are trains which seemed to go by all night long and there must have been an airport close by too. Needless to say we didn't get much sleep that night. Nevermind all that though. The children had a lovely time roasting marshmellows and telling ghost stories. We got up at 7am and "roughed" it by boiling water on the fire and had instant oatmeal.
Our quest for the day was to find a camp stove and to make it to Nahalem State Beach in Oregon.
