Family of Six take on FREE DINNING!!! UPDATE 10/2 Whispering Canyon Cafe w/pictures

Hi Everyone

We just got back late last night. It's been a very laid back lazy day here in our house. ;) I took pictures of almost all our sit downs, I just kept forgetting to take pictures of CS. On our last full day on Sunday I was getting a little crazy with pictures I took a picture of the guys tray in front of me. :rotfl: I used my Iphone so there would be no flash lol hopefully he did not notice. I will have full reviews and pictures sometime this week. We shared alot of our CS meals so by Saturday we still had alot CS lefts so we started to order meals for the four of us. That was alot of food but we just picked desserts that we would be able to take with us.

Overall we had wonderful dinning experiences at all the restaurants. I give the Grand Floridian Cafe the highest mark because not only was the food very good but our waitress was excellent. :thumbsup2 The worst was Chef Mickey's. :sad2: It was a combination of alot of things 1. My daughter was afraid of all the characters. We visited Stitch in the park earlier in the week and she did GREAT!! So I thought she would be fine with everyone else but no she was not. :scared1: I stayed away a good portion of the time with her till the characters left. She did do great with Minnie and Minnie was absoultely wonderful with her!! I also thought the food was nothing to write home about. I am just glad that it was free dinning and we did not have to pay 100.00 or so dollars for dinner. I did order the pirate chest cake for my DS that night and he LOVED it and was very excited about it. I highly recommend it for a birthday at a buffett meal since its small. Our waitress was good about getting our drinks but she was not friendly.

My DD took a few pictures of food also, with her camrea so I will have to see how those came out. :lovestruc

We ate our very first meal in Disney at the ASMO Food Court. By the time we were able to sit down and eat it was almost 6:30 and we were starving by then since our last meal was at the airport around 10:45 am. We ordered 3 meals to split amongst the four of us. We ordered the Hot Italian Sandwich, Chicken with Penne Alfredo, and the Spaghetti and Meatballs. The kids split the Spaghetti and Meatballs. Stitch enjoyed the meatballs but Tink did not. She had some of my chicken along with her spaghetti. I did not like the sauce on it. I enjoyed the Chicken and Penne, the only thing was the Penne was dried out so I just had to make sure to mix it up so all the pasta would get the Alfredo sauce on it. Mickey enjoyed his Hot Italian Sandwich, I don’t remember what was on it but from the picture it looks like ham, provolone cheese, pesto sauce and probably some other meat. For the drinks we grabbed a water bottle and two orange juices. (for breakfast) I brought a little insulate lunch bag and we put ice in it for the drinks. We had the mugs. For dessert we grabbed a rice krispy treat (we brought it back to the room) and two brownie sundaes to split. The brownie sundaes were very yummy and plenty to share.

Donald ordered a make your own salad with steak on it. I did not get a picture of it since when I remembered he was pretty much done eating. I thought it looked yummy and obviously he liked it. He had a fruit cup for dessert

Daisy ordered some type of fish (sorry I don’t know what type) She thought it was good but a very small portion. She also had a fruit cup for dessert

Here is Daisy's fish it looks like she ate the veggies before we snapped the picture

All in all the Food Court was perfect meal to eat our first night, it was quick and good. We went to bed not long after dinner since we were up since 3:30 am.

Next Up: Grand Floridian Café

We woke up early today so we could get to the MK for EMH. For breakfast we had oatmeal squares (brought from home) and bannanas that we bought from the Food Court the night before. They were yummy and held us over for a bit.

We started to get hungry so we were looking for a snack. Magic Kingdom does not have much open at 10am. So we continued to ride more rides. We got off Pirates and stumbled upon Pecos Bill. We walk in and the place is dead. Want to know why the place is dead? Yup you guessed it they don't open till 11. The time was only 10:45. Donald took a look at the fixings bar and really wanted to eat there because of it. We then found a store nearby that was open. (Someone please help me on the name of this place? It was close to Pecos Bills) We walk in and find packaged snacks and rice krispy treats. The very nice CM working helped us out by letting us know what items counted as snack credits. We ended up with 2 HUGE rice krispy treats topped with chocolate to split amongst the 4 four of us. It was very yummy and one block would of been plenty, but don't worry Donald helped us finish the other one. :lmao:

edited to add: I found the receipt for the rice krispy treats and we bought them at Prairie Outpost and Supply

I did not snap a picture of the rice krispy treat but Mickey did get one later in the week at Goofy's so I will post that one.

Daisy picked out a bag of pretzels as her snack. I thought they tasted bland. Aside from helping us with our rice krispy Donald picked out a snack also but I really don't remember what. I think it was some sort of trail mix.

Our bellys were once again happy.

I also wanted to add that Donald had on his birthday button so the CM so kindly sang Happy Birthday to him backwards!! Yup you guessed it she turned her back to us. :-)

Next Up: Lunch at Pecos? Or did we keep with tradition of Cosmic Ray's
(sorry I know I said Grand Floridian Cafe would be next in the last post but it will be after lunch reviews ;) )

Around 12pm we decided to eat lunch. We were in Tommorrowland on Buzz so it was easier to stay with tradition and eat at Cosmic Ray's instead of going back to Pecos Bill.

We ordered two bacon double cheeseburgers to split amongst the four of us. Plus a large diet and large lemonade. The burgers tasted just as yummy as we remembered from the past. Except for Tink she did not like her burger. :confused3 For dessert we ordered a chocolate cake and a packaged brownie. (took back to the room with us) The chocolate cake was very yummy and very chocolatey. :lovestruc The kids ate most of it with me and Mickey just taking a bite.

Donald ordered the chicken and ribs combo with green beans and mashed potatoes and grapes as his dessert. He enjoyed every morsel. ;) (If you have not figured it out yet Donald is a big eater popcorn::)

Daisy ordered the Vegetarian Wrap, the only thing I remember in it was hummus and I don't remember what else was in the wrap, it was a very good size, she only ate about half and offered the rest to Tink. To my shock she really really enjoyed it. She ate half of what was left. She said she wanted to save room for dessert. ;)

Sorry I remembered when it was too late to take pictures.

All in all we love to go to Cosmic Rays and sit outside and watch the castle and the food and fixings bar is yummy also. :cloud9:

Up Next: Dinner at The Grand Floridian Cafe

Thought I'd pop in and check out your dining report fellow traveler! :goodvibes

We went last night to Goofy's. The Mickey heads are no longer considered a snack credit. They cost $4.50 and that is one dip one topping and one drizzle. Anything else a $1.00 for each additional items.
Also only pretzels dipped in chocolate without a topping are a snack credit.
I used up 6 snack credits, we got:
a large square rice crispy treat with chocolate on top
3 chocolate pretzel sticks
chocolate mickey head pretzel wit cookie crumbs on it
marshmallows dipped in chocolate with m&m's
mint fudge
large oreo type cookie dipped in milk chocolate and m&m's and drizzles in white chocolate
Are you talking about the make your own treats? If you are, that's really strange. We went on 8/22 and we were told that the pretzel rods, marshmallows and fudge cookies all counted as snack credits. Nothing else did because of the price increases. We both got fudge cookies with all the toppings as Snack credits :confused3

I am just glad that it was free dinning and we did not have to pay 100.00 or so dollars for dinner.
Me too! Free dining was the perfect discount for us!

I went in that store by Pecos Bill but didn't get anything... I was trying to save up credits for Goofy's Candy Co! ;) We never ate in the food court either! We walked through it, but we were never at the hotel during lunch. It smelled good though! Also, on our second day in the MK, we narrowed down our CS choice to either Cosmic Ray's or Columbia Harbor House... we chose CHH, so Cosmic Ray's is my next MK CS must do! Looking forward to reading more of your reviews! :goodvibes

:yay: Hi and Welcome

Yes those are all still snack credits. It's the Mickey heads that are not anymore. Also the special dipped pretzels ex: dipped in chocolate then m&ms are not. The ones that are dipped in chocolate and drizzled ARE still snack credits. I have pictures of all the snacks we got a Goofy's. The fudge cookie was AWESOME, I had mine dipped in chocolate then m&ms and then drizzled in white chocolate. I ate on it for 3 days. :cloud9:

Yup can't beat that discount. Why some people don't think it is a great discount is beyond me. :confused3 ;)

PalmettoPrincess

I just reread your post. Did you say ALL the toppings? Those things must of been HUGE and yummy. popcorn::

No lol, I meant all the possible make your own toppings. IE, a dipping flavor, a topping and a drizzle. I have a big mouth, but I was having trouble fitting my cookie in my mouth, I don't know what I would have done if I HAD gotten all of the toppings! :lmao: I also snacked on mine for a few days... I ate most of the DBF's too! :rolleyes1

:lmao: mmmmm I could go for one right now. :lmao:

Let me first start off by saying this was one of favorites. This was our very first time going. I chose The Grand Floridian Café because I wanted to surprise DH with the mini castle cake for our Anniversary which was on the 16th.

We arrived at The GFC at 4:40 but our reservation was not till 5:10. I went to check in and I mentioned to the CM that I ordered a mini castle cake. She said ok let me have one of my Seven Dwarfs look for it. Ten minutes later our pager goes off and we are escorted to our seats. We sit down and look over the menu. Our waitress comes over to take our drink order; her name was Lacey by the way. She was awesome right from the start.

About 5 minutes later she comes back with our drinks and takes our order. While waiting for our food, she was very good about refilling our drinks. She had come back at one point while DH had left the table for a few minutes. I asked her about the cake, I told her that I asked at the podium and they told me they were going to look for it. She said, yes we have it and she also wanted to make sure I understood that is was not paid for yet.

To start off we had bread brought out to us. One was a sour dough type which was good and the other had currants I believe she said, that one was just ok

DSC00157.JPG

Those are Donald's hands you see, he was trying to make a hidden Mickey but the bread kept falling. :)

and of course the butter

DSC00158.JPG

While waiting for our food Lacey brought us out two glasses of champagne. We thought that was very nice of her and thanked her very much. Heres the funny party Mickey and I don't drink at all, so when Lacey was not around Donald and Daisy drank our champagnes. We did not want her to notice that, we did not want to hurt her feelings, but Donal and Daisy had no problem drinking them. :rotfl:

Also while waiting a gentleman CM came over to talk to us and congradulate us on our Anniversary. He told us that he just celebrated his 24th Anniversary on Sunday. We then told him that was our our Anniversary date also. He then took a picture of us. We asked him if we were going to be in a magazine for a Disney ad. :rotfl2: He then said no we take picutures of our guest and pin them up in the back and then throw darts at them. :lmao:

The kids were able to pick an appetizer, and they both picked the chicken noodle soup. They both love chicken noodle soup and this did not disappoint them.

They had a little fun posing the plates for the picture ;)

DSC00156.JPG

Not long after our entrees came along

I ordered the
Shrimp and Penne Pasta - Chicken Feta Sausage, Peas, and Asiago Cream Sauce $17.99

DSC00159.JPG

This was absoultely wonderful and cheesy. The only thing was the Chicken Feta Sausage had no taste to it, I just avoided the few pieces. I had to stop myself at one point so I would have room for dessert.

Mickey and Donald both ordered New York Strip - with Red Bliss Mashed Potatoes, Haricot Verts and Red Wine Sauce $27.99
They both enjoyed their steak

DSC00161.JPG

The picture is without the Red Wine Sauce

Donald ordered a salad with his

DSC00162.JPG

Daisy ordered Salmon - with Asparagus, Julienne Shiitake and Leeks on a Potato-Chive Beurre Blanc $20.99
She thought it was good but again thought the portion was small, she enjoyed the rest of my pasta dish

DSC00164.JPG

Stitch had the kids grilled steak, he really enjoyed it. I thought it was small but between the bread, soup, steak, and a little of the rice and dessert he was satisfied.

DSC00160.JPG

Last but not least Tink ordered the kids pizza. I don't have a picture because she said she took one with her camerea but for some reason she was deleting pictures from it. As soon as we found out that she was deleting pictures we told her not to anymore, we told her she did not have to since she had plenty of room on her memory stick. :lovestruc

On to dessert, we ordered two of the dessert samplers. A Sweet Ending to Your Celebration... Dessert Sampler - Tiramisu, Chocolate Mousse, Key Lime Tart, and Lemon Cheesecake $9.99 We traded our tiramisu one with Donald and Daisy for their key lime.

DSC00168.JPG

I was really dissapointed in the sampler everything was not cold. I will say that they did have a good taste to them though.

The kids both had Dirt and Worms

DSC00169.JPG

Here is the mini castle cake that I orderd to suprise hubby with.

photo5.jpg

When the cake was brought the waitress started to put it in front of Mickey, he took it and then started to place it front of Donald. :scared1: (He thought it was for Donald's birthhday) I then pulled it back in front of Mickey and he read the plate that it said Happy Anniversary and then he had a big smile on his face. :lovestruc He was very suprised.

The cake is very cute it tasted just ok, the frosting was a little hard on the flowered parts. The castle tasted good. They charge $30.00 for the cake, but we lucked out since Lacey did not charge us for it. On the receipt it showed as 0.

We found out after why the CM took our picture. He put it in a card for us that said Congradulations on it.

All in all this was a great meal, between the wonderful waitress and the food. We gave Lacey a very big tip. :worship:

Next up: Donald's birthday breakfast at Boma

Awwww, that was sweet of them to not charge you for the cake! I'd like to surprise the DBF with a specialty cake someday....

Wow!!! That kid's steak is TINY!!!!!!!!!! It looks like I could fit the whole thing in my mouth! Your pasta looks good, although it's got shrimp in it (I don't eat seafood).... glad you had a great time! And happy belated anniversary! :]
