Day 4 Epcot
Once again, we didnt make it to park opening but this was our own problem. We just couldnt get up and out. We only missed opening by about a half hour though. We walked in and went right over to Soarin. Heres a pic of me and DD waiting in line:
I LOVED this ride. In my opinion, Soarin' totally ride lived up to all the hype its getting. Its relaxing, exhilarating, fun and peaceful. My only complaint? I wanted it to last longer. I just loved it. The first time we rode it, we were in the third row and I know what people mean when they complain about seeing the feet of the people in front of you it does take away from the ride a bit because we got off and hopped right back on again and this time we got the first row and it was nice not to see other peoples feet but again, I loved this ride. Fun!
So
Ive told you how DS, for the most part, just goes along for the ride. She never really has an agenda and we just tell her where and when and she just shows up? Well, for whatever reason, she wanted to see Crush. I totally did not want to but had to bite my tongue because it was one of the few things she said she wanted to do so we did and surprisingly, we really enjoyed it! The kids were completely embarrassed waiting in line because they were by far the oldest kids and as teenagers, they didnt like that at all so they stood next to a family in line that had a bunch of small kids and pretended to be with them. Funny thing though we were one of the first people to walk in and if youve never been to Crush before, they let all the little kids sit on the floor in the very front. Well, DN2 is short for his age (13) and when we sat down (not on the floor) the CM said to DN2, hey little guy, come on down and sit in front. Well, of course, he was mortified because a) he called him little guy, and b) all the kids that were starting to congregate on the floor were no older than 5 or 6 so of course we had to tease DN2 the rest of the show and call him little guy. I was very surprised to see that Crush actually does interact with all the kids in the audience and it really was fun. Heres a picture of us actually enjoying the show
We walked over to Test Track and after standing in line for a good half hour, we heard an announcement stating that there were "complications" and the ride was being shut down "temporarily." Temporary is way too arbitrary of a word - what does that mean? Everyone else in the line must have been thinking the same thing because we all just stood there and looked each other - waiting for someone else to make a move. No one did and no one really got out of the line because after all, we had already invested a good half hour in the line and we were more than half way there. Sure enough, within 5 minutes, the ride was up and we were moving again... for about 10 more minutes. At this point, we were pretty much at the end of the line - we were almost there and sure enough here comes that same dang announcement! Okay, it had been about an hour now - we were not getting out of this line. It was "temporarily shut down again." While we waited we watched the FastPass line grow longer and longer and we knew once they got the ride back going again, they'd grab all the FastPass people first and we could all feel our entire day starting to slip through our fingers but what do you do at this point? Give up and walk away after an hour? No way! We were troopers and we were all in this together! We hung in there and after another 10 minutes or so, we were moving again although I wasn't totally comforted with the fact that it kept breaking down and we were so willingly ready to hop right on and ride it? We finally got on the ride and I think we were stopped at least twice while riding the stupid thing. Kinda ruined the ride for us but we were able to ride it and be done with it. Personally, Test Track isn't one of my favorites, but I figured the boys would like it. They weren't all that impressed either. Oh well - move on!
We started meandering through the countries in World Showcase but we knew we were coming back to Epcot for another day so we really werent in much of a hurry. We watched the drum people in Japan which we always enjoy. We watched the American Adventure and DM, DS and I really enjoyed it, but I'm pretty sure the kids all fell asleep.
We were walking over the bridge between France and Germany (I think) and we noticed Chip and Dale down a little alcove so we walked down there to get a few pics with them. Heres one of DM and Chip and Dale:
It was really fun because we were the only ones down there with them. After we took a few pictures, I tried talking to them thinking, no one is around they can talk to me. But I quickly realized, a) chipmunks dont talk and b) their handler was too close even if they wanted to. It just seemed like such a shame to leave the characters all alone with no one around. I mean, how often does that happen? After we stood there staring at each other for a minute or two - sizing each other up - quickly realizing there's not a whole lot more that you can do with two chipmunks who won't talk to you besides take pictures - we slowly started to walk away and as we did I turned around to see what they do when no one is looking. Well, dont let those cute little fuzzy faces fool you. Theyre just little rodents with a cute exterior. I couldnt believe what they did. They walked up to a parked stroller and grabbed a Coke that was sticking out of a back bag in the stroller and I watched in fascination thinking the stroller must be a prop and this is where they hide stuff they need. I thought I was going to see them de-mask mask and take a swig of Coke. Oh no. They shook it. A lot. They put it back in the stroller and they pointed to each other and laughed. It was hilarious. So
if you happened to be at Epcot on April 3 and your stroller was parked between France and Germany and you had an extremely flat Coke, you can blame Chip and Dale. I would have LOVED to have gotten that on video. Priceless.
Because of the DIS, we really felt we had to try LeCellier for dinner because everyone pretty much raves about this place. We liked it a lot didnt love it. Again, I think because it was hyped so much it ruined it for us a bit. One thing that didnt help was we got a really crappy waitress. She wasnt mean or crabby, she just wasnt good. She forgot everything she didnt refill beverages, etc. Heres a picture of us at LeCellier:
We really wished we would have had this waiter because he knew how to have a good time:
DM, DS and I all had the petite filet and we all like our steak medium rare. DM and DSs were medium rare, mine was well done (which I found odd, considering we all ordered ours the same way and two out of three were right.) I contemplated eating it but quickly realized Im not paying (funny that I say I, DM isnt paying) $22 for a petite filet (and they arent kidding when they say petite) so I sent mine back and was brought out a new one fairly quickly. DN1 ordered a sirloin and his actually had more flavor than mine. The pretzel bread was to die for that definitely lived up to its reputation. The cheese soup was also really good. We loved the atmosphere and Im glad we went but Im not sure wed go back again. I think had we had a better waiter, it would have made all the difference to us. It was still really good, just wasnt knock your socks off great.
We had fairly early reservations at LeCellier so by the time we were done it was late afternoon, it was hot, the kids were getting tired and we knew we were coming back, so we left for the day and let the kids hang out in the pool.
Next up - AK!
