I am looking for the cheapest way to stay on Dec 29, one night before our cruise. Where? Any studios?? I want to use DVC points.

You can't put 5 people in a studio at any of the DVC resorts, unless one of your party is under 3 years old.

You could get a room at a deluxe, or POR, that will sleep 5, but that'll take more points than a studio would.

December 29 is a Saturday, and it is probably pretty close to fully booked by now as that is a tremendously busy week for DVC and WDW in general.

If you have a child in your group under 3 years old, you could get a studio at OKW for 36 points. That's the lowest point total of any DVC resort at that time.

For a 1BR (assuming you don't have anyone under 3 years old) the lowest points would be at SSR for 68 points. Again, both of these point totals are assuming that there is even a room available at this point.

Personally, I don't think I'd use DVC points for that one night. It is at the highest one night point rate of the entire year for DVC.

Assuming you don't decide to (or can't) use points

We've done the cruise twice....once we flew in to arrive about 1:00 the day before the cruise and took a towncar over to the Raddisson at the port. It was an OK hotel - there are now a few more hotels in the area. This is not a bad deal, as it puts you close to the ship the next day. The kids get in nearly a full day of pool time. Although next time I'd want a car - cabs at the cape can be difficult, and it isn't laid out for easy access to restuarants. A lot of hotels will let you leave your car and shuttle you to the cruise lines.

The other time we flew in late - arriving around 11 pm and stayed at the Hyatt MCO. This wasn't cheap - but it was wonderful and I'd recommend it in a heartbeat. Lovely hotel. We weren't there long enough to miss not having much to do - but airport shopping can keep you busy at MCO for a few hours. You can pick up a DCL bus from downstairs at the Hyatt very easily.

With a weekend night, a family of five, the holiday season and a desire to do "cheap" - I'd go offsite - maybe even a little off the beaten path. There are great hotels in the Orlando area that you don't pay the "mouse premium" for.
