Hi all - sorry I am a bit behind with the updates, but we had a really long day yesterday and i crashed when we got back to the room so I couldn't get to the dinner update - but here goes. Nice to see some more folks joined in - glad you could join us on our vacation

.
So I left off we had finished lunch at AK, and spent some more time there on rides and animals. Lots of fun!! Then, we took the bus back to BWV so we could attend the Wednesday DVC meeting. It is like a game show with prizes and jokes and more fun. Then we hurried back and grabbed the kids and headed over to EPCOT for our ressies at Teppan Edo in the Japan Pavilion.
When you come up the stairs here and enter the restaurant, there is a greeter stand at the top. I thought I was in the wrong place as there was not a teppan grill in sight, just tables with folks enjoying their meals. When i checked in and inquired, the hostess let me know that the restaurant there was Tokyo Dining, and Teppan Edo was behind me down the hall. We were asked to take a seat and about 10 minutes later were called into Teppan Edo with another family of 3, so 8 of us filled the grill area. Here is a pic that DD7 took while playing around with my camera, but it came out pretty good:
The dining area is broken down into several rooms, each with 4 teppan grills in them. For whatever reason, all of the servers had a trainee with them and were training them on everything. Here is a pic of ours:
I have been to many teppan grill places, so for me, they are all about the same. What makes one better than another one is the chef, the overall atmosphere, and the folks you are eating with at the grill. Unfortunately for me, this place lacked 2 of the 3, at least at the time we were there (the family we ate with were nice people). First the atmosphere - in our room, it was pretty quiet. Usually, these types of places are more up beat. I think a lot of this has to do with the layout as everyone is so close together, and you are watching 3 other chefs cooking while you are waiting on your chef - so some of the mystique is taken out of the chef's show when they show up at you table.
Next, our chef was either inexperienced, or was just having a bad night. She was friendly, but was not great, and actually made a mistake with just about every trick she tried. Here is her pic:
She was nice to the kids, but I saw other chefs at other grills who had the kids more involved in the show and made it more fun for them. My kids enjoyed it, but DS9 pointed out all her mistakes as he just finished watching a really good chef at the grill next to ours. I think it would have been different, for instance, if we would of had the chef next to us instead.
Now onto the food. They start by giving you some dipping sauces for your meat:
For an entrée, you get to pick from chicken, shrimp, scallops, filet mignon, veggies and some combinations. As an example, the shrimp and the scallops were both priced at $23.95. The sirloin-shrimp combo was priced at $29.95. I asked the server if I could have sirloin and scallops, since the scallops and shrimp were the same price. She said no - I could only add scallops for $10 more. I thought that was odd, so I just went with the filet mignon (I like this pic because you can see the steam coming off the food):
And here it is with mushrooms:
All the meals come with some veggies, noodles and white steamed rice. Here is a picture of the onion volcano (there is a Disney twist she did on this - which I won't give away so it will be a surprise if you go):
And some more of the grilling:
Here is one of my daughters chicken kid's meal:
DW and DS18 both got the large shrimp, but I guess I didn't get a good photo of theirs (sorry). DS18 also ordered a sushi combo which had a few pieces of sushi and 2 pieces of California roll - missed the pic of that one too - but we paid OOP for that appetizer.
For dessert, the kids had fruit cup (the kind that goes into their lunches) and was the only dessert for kids. DS18 had ice cream:
DW had chocolate ginger cake - which was good, and was really just chocolate cake with a hint of ginger:
I had the surprise dessert of the night and went with green tea pudding - which was excellent - very creamy!! I had read other reviews where they hated it, so maybe it was just me, but the whole family tried it and liked it:
For drinks, the 3 adults all had hot tea - and they also offered a complimentary hot tea after the meal.
So to sum it up, the food was decent, the chef so-so, the atmosphere was a little strange - too much explaining of things by the servers, etc. So, if you haven't been to a Teppan Grill before, you will probably enjoy this place - especially the kids, because of the chef show - they will think it is cool

. If you have been to one before, then I would say this is a place you could skip. I actually preferred my CS lunch at Yak & Yeti over Teppan Edo.
Please keep in mind that I have eaten at several Teppan places in the past, so I am jaded - but my family has not, and they noticed the difference at our table vs some of the other chefs. However, a different chef would have upped the fun, but the food is still the same basic food. If you do go, try the pudding

.
Now for the math

. If we paid OOP, Teppan Edo would have cost us $149.74. On the DDP, we used 3 adult TS credits and 2 child TS credits, plus we paid $10.12 OOP for the sushi sampler.
