For twenty-five years we had to spend every Christmas at my in-laws. It was horrible. I hated it and the children came to hate it. As you can imagine, it became harder to get all of the grandchildren together. I did not want the situation to be repeated with my family.

With a DVC membership, we have no problem getting people together. My daughter has visions of a family reunion cruise.

That will be great ! we planned a christmas family reunoin at the vwl & bcv for my whole family using dvc. now im out of points until 2006:( unless i borrow my 2006 at my 2005 use year, heehee, but i dont want to start borrowing so we will either take a cruise next year or rent points, or enjoy marco island.

I was just think about a dcl for the whole family there is one on ebay of course cat 1 and i forget how many people you can get in the room.

we have family coming from different states to join our reuoin, thank goodness that we own DVC to make this come true.

It's so good to hear you have had success getting the family together for holiday vacation!! I've been trying to get some family members to join us for Christmas in WDW....no one seems interested. Can you believe it??????

Ksp I feel your pain. We have invited out DD 24 to join us on three seperate occasions, turned us down each time! Once was just DD15 and me for MNSSHP.. can you imagine?

It would be great to have a reunion at WDW, but with 7 kids, their 4 spouses, and 6 grandkids.. they would have to collect on my life insurance to do it. Not worth it, in my opinion at least.

DVC or WDW at Christmas would be a tough thing to pull off for most. I would not recommend WDW at Christmas to start with, but can you just begin to imagine the problems with getting people to leave home at Christmas for a family renunion at WDW. Like one said it would cost a a lot of money, and a lot of cooperation, buying airline tickets, where would you put the gifts, finding a church to go to to celebrate Christmas, it does not sound easy to me. I would think you would have trouble getting people to do it. The center of the family is important at Christmas and it is usually located at some family members house around table with home cooked meals and family. There are some nice churchs down at Orlando to go to, but I would first test the waters to see how many people are really willing to leave home for Christmas.

Christmas would be hard with small children since it usually isn't warm enough to swim outside. We had 2 days this year with our 13 yo that we felt like sitting out by the pool and thats what we did. Spring of 2006 we will be going with the full crew......5 children 2 spouses, 2 friends and 6 grandkids (under the age of 3 right now) We all are really looking forward to it!

This will be our first trip home, and there are 11 of us going. I used my points from last year, this year, and some from next year to do it, but to me it's a once in a lifetime chance to get everyone in the same GREAT place at the same time. To me there is no better place for family to gather. This will be my mom's first trip to Disney, dad came with me back in 73 when I traveled there with the high school band. I turned my sister on to it about 10 years ago, and my twin nephews at the age of 5 will be priceless to watch I am sure. My kids, well they already consider it their second home. :) Have a great time, as I know we will.

We "skipped Christmas" in Dec. 2002. I didn't have enough points for everyone so my kids and I stayed at VWL and the rest of the family was at WL. We were there Dec 23-29. The crowds arrived on the 26th. There were 12 of us from ages 16 -83. I wouldn't recommend it for families with young children. We didn't buy gifts, except for one grab bag gift. We sat in the lobby of the Villas and exchanged grab bag gifts and had a ball. One of my brothers didn't come and regrets it to this day.
We had a PS every night and that's where the teens met up with us. It was probably the best vacation I've ever been on!!! I highly recommend doing it at least once. And I also recommend reading "Skipping Christmas" which influenced us to take the trip.
