Family Fun Run question...

Has anyone done the 5K Family Fun run the weekend of the WDW Marathon? I have talked my husband into doing it this year, then we realized it would be fun to take our daughter with us. She is 5 years old and has started doing little kid races this summer. I think she would LOVE a "Disney" race with characters etc. Plus, we don't have anyone to watch her while we run.

My question is, would they allow us to bring our jog stroller in the race? I am not sure my daughter could run the entire race, and if she got tired, we could plunk her in the stroller. Just not sure if that is allowed.

They do give 15 minute per mile pace limit - which should be fine even if we have to walk some - but having the jog stroller would alleviate my fears of ending up carrying her on my back for the last mile of the run! :rotfl:

Jogging strollers are prohibited in any Disney race due to liablity :(

The race this year occurs after the half marathon has concluded.

Thank you Lisa. I had a feeling that might be the case. :)

But, I think I can get my 5 year old hyped up for this. In fact, we have been out walking every night, so she will probably do better than me anyway.

My husband and I will just plan to do a jog/walk for the 5K and hopefully we won't have to carry her over the finish! I am so excited to try this. It should be a lot of fun. :Pinkbounc

Good luck to you. Are you doing the half or the full? Great cause to raise money for as well. It will be a great accomplishment for you and your cause. I did the AIDS ride (500 mile bike ride in 6 days) back in 1998 and raised about $3500. It was such a cool experience and I felt so great about raising the money.

In 2002 they had "kids" races too they are great they get the coolist medals and all the characters are at the end waiting for them! :cheer2: My son has done them 2x and my DD has done it once check and see it they are still doing them !!

Thanks Tiffa! I noticed they are still doing that. It is a 200 yard dash for 5-7 year olds (400 yards for 8-12, I think and 100 yards for 2-4? Plus a diaper dash!) - so I was thinking of signing her up for that too! She can get 2 medals and would LOVE it! :cool1:

How old were your son and daughter when they did it?

:wizard: Hi sorry it took so long to reply but we are leaving tomorrow!! :cool1: :cheer2: My son was 5 the first time and then he was 7 and my DD was 3 they had a ball with the races, and the medals too are so cool we took them to an engraver to have the date and names put on them and he said it was the neatest medal he had ever seen! Its very fun, we can no longer do the marathon because they moved it back it used to be right at New Years and my kids didnt miss school! :wizard: have fun

Thanks Tiffa! Now I am very excited. My daughter will love her medals. She got 2nd place in a kids run here and wore her medal for a week! :sunny:

Enjoy your trip. I can't wait for mine in January... and yes, I am taking my daughter out of school - but she is only in kindergarten.

I don't remember anything about a 15 minute per mile pace limit for the Family Fun Run at all, just a limit for the full and half. Is this something new?

Ahh, never mind, just saw that on the WWOS website. I think that is new as I don't recall that from 2004, at least. Hope my DS can keep up the pacing!

I take my daughter on walks and she seems to keep up with me. So I figure if we do a jog, then walk, the jog, we should be fine. If not, she will be on my back or my husband's back so we can make it in time! :)

I was going to say I didn't notice it either--but it makes sense....last time the clock was running for over an hour and the park had open and stragglers were coming in.

Since it will be park opening before the 5K--it makes sense for them to limit the inconvenience to guests with a time limit. EPCOT will have a busy 2 days with athletes.

I'm running the full--I finished last year...but tanked due to illness. Going for an "official" finish this time--in the 4-5 hour range. (my training time last year--I should have finished in sub-6 hours based on my 20 mile run).

Good luck to you Lisa. I am trying to talk my husband into training for the 2007 marathon. Never done one before, and figured this would be the most fun for a novice runner and a Disney lover! :earsboy: Plus, I always need a goal for working out and darn, a trip to Disney would be a great goal. :teeth:
