We're staying 6 nights at POP and then 5 nights at AKL. The DH, and kiddies don't know this yet. I've planned an "OFF DAY" for the day we will switch, but how should I tell them ? My DH will be the most excited!! Thanks

One idea: tell them you're spending the last five days somewhere offsite (pick someplace to make it believable). Then that morning after you're packed, tell them you're really going to AKL!

Can you purchase a few small plush animals? Make little signs that go around their necks, something like, "Be OUR guests", "It's Nahtazoo here", "See ya real soon"

Could DH and the kids go to the park ahead of you, or perhaps you "forget" something and have to go back to the resort? Make arrangements to have your luggage moved, get ADR's for WCC (?) and then make the announcement when you're already there... That way if they're getting on a bus to go to WL for dinner it won't be that obvious you're up to something.

You could have your luggage sent over to AKL and schedule a lunch or dinner at Boma’s. Arrive early and tour the resort. While the family checking out the sights, go to the desk and check in.

I would then get the family to follow me to a really cool observation area and as you walk by your new room, I would put my ear to the door and tell them to listen, It sounds like some ones calling our name, and walk in.

Have a camera ready to capture the moment.

I just did this in August. I told my family we were moving to a different resort during our trip(pick one that they wouldn't like very much :smooth: ) then on the morning we moved I told them we had an ADR at Boma for breakfast. When we got to AKL I walked up to the luggage area and said "Hi were checking into a concierge room today, where should we go?" the look on their faces was priceless!! :goodvibes
It was a nice surprise!!

I did this too! I told my clan that I had to drop something off to another DISer at a different resort prior to the long drive home. We went to the room and went inside to have my friend hand them room keys for the room next door! The look on all their faces was priceless and they never had a clue that we were staying an extra couple of days.

I love the Boma's for breakfast idea.... go over for breakfast and while everyone is finishing up excuse yourself to go to the restroom or something and head for the desk to check in....when you get back give everyone a room key and tell them they need to head back to the Pop to pack up....they will be SOOOO excited.

It would be even cooler if they had the room ready and you could just tell them after breakfast you had a suprise to show them....and just take them to the room!! My DH would be more excited than the kids!!

It is nice you have an off day to move. That way you can have a nice breakfast, suprise everyone, go back to Pop to pack up and be out by check out time and then you could go over to DTD or something to play/shop until the room at AKL is ready...no rush to the parks.

What a great mom/DW you are!!

We are doing the same thing with our DS9.5. We booked AKL Concierge's to go to Sunrise Safari and Cindy's Breakfast. DS may not want pics with Princesses, but he doesn't have much of a choice!

I did this two summer's ago. I kept saying that I'd like to check out the AKL and see what it had to offer--we had seen it on the travel channel and the kids were really impressed. We packed up the car--the kids thought it was our last day and we were heading home after checking it out. We went to the resort and we wandered about for about 15 minutes when I told the kids to go to the bathroom before we left and that I was going to check at the desk for a map of the resort and the animal viewing areas (really I was checking in). I met everyone near the lavatories and told them that the "nice lady at the desk said to follow this map for a great view of the animals". They followed, and we headed to the fifth floor, while walking down the hallway I said STOP and inserted the room key--my DD was freaked out not understanding why I was entering a room, but once I opened it up I yelled surprise go check the balcony! The kids were really surprised and I was so happy that I pulled it all off. Great view, happy family, who could ask for anyhting more--well maybe my DD & DS now they want AKL CL and guess what-- I've got it all booked for July as a moving up gift for both of htem she goes to MS and he goes to HS next September--shhhhh ;)
