Family Boarding on Continental?

Is there family boarding on Continental airlines? Or is that a standard thing on most airlines? I thought I read somewhere that Continental boards window first, than middle and last the aisle seat. How does that work with little ones if that is the case?

Family boarding is pretty much a thing of the past on most US airlines.

On Continental, the first to board are military members in uniform. Then elite members and people needing extra time to board (disabled, families with small children), then rear to front. Small children usually means 4 and under.

Note that with the current United/Continental merger, boarding order on United changed to Continental's boarding procedure, now that they are going back to zone boarding, with Continental boarding to follow suit.

So that means I would board with my 22 month old and get her car seat hooked up. Later, my husband would board with my 5 and 6 year old.

Yes. Unless they don't even offer family boarding, which happens often on United; not sure about Continental.

Check in with the gate agent when you have a moment, but before they begin boarding, to ask about the best way to get your car seat installed without holding up the boarding process. (Note the way that is phrased: you are looking out for the airline and your fellow passengers, not just hoping to get on early for your own nefarious purposes.) The actual process might differ depending on how full they are, and how early they expect to begin boarding, but the gate agent will steer you in the right direction either way.
