Falling into September Super Goofs Challenge

Hi Goofs! I am a Walt's Warrior just jumping over here to tell you what an awesome team mate you have in Joanne! (But you already knew that, right?!?!)

I ran the half in Maine yesterday with her. It was my first ever and I was terrified. I have only been running for 6 months, so this was a big deal for me. And Joanne was so kind and supportive--it really made the day so much better for me.

She lost her knee cap and I lost...well, I don't know! A hamstring for sure and the word is still out on a calf. The last few miles were way painful, but I finished about a minute and a half behind Joanne. And my first half is DONE! Now it is on to the Disney half!

Joanne and I also met a brand new WISHer from Jessica's Rabbits....tracyz. She noticed my shirt (they are hard to miss, aren't they? :lmao: ) and came over to introduce herself.

My mom snapped a pic of the three of us, so here we are...

Joanne (groovygirls), me in the middle (Erika/3DisneyKids), and Tracy (tracyz):

30 minute swim...boy that is hard work when you haven't been in the water since July 20.

Today 5 mile run, 45 minutes.

sorry I haven't been keeping up so much...work is just crazy busy...and now is our slow season!!!!

Mike

Mike, I can ditto the crazy busy during the slow season thing. Of course, it does not help that I have a half in 2 weeks and then 2 weeks later WDW. :rolleyes1 We miss you but are willing to wait!!

Everyone is on a roll this month. I am busy adding up the spreadsheet totals so I can actually post them. I thought I had done it already, logged into the sheet and, oops!!!!! :teacher: Yep, back to start again.

I took yesterday off as a total rest day. I even took a nap!! Today is a 7 mile tempo run. I cannot figure out if I am looking forward to taper because of the rest or because it means I will be in WDW 2 weeks after the half!! Either way, I am looking forward to going back into maintenance mode for the winter.

Have a super day Goofs. Don't forget Biggest Loser tonight. And remember, I am really nicer than Jillian in real life, no really....:scared:

Good morning everyone!
I am off to my PCP today. I am really worried about my knee. i cannot bear weight and it feels like things are crunching around (yuck) Far worse yesterday than the day before. I will be heart broken if I cannot do MCM.

On another note- my dad has mild cognitive deficiet which may or may not be a precurser to alzheimers disease. My charity for the MCM is the Alzheimers Association in honor of my dad. Yesterday I had the opportunity to interview him for Story Corps for NPR as part of the Memory Initiative project. It was quite the experience. Think about what you may ask a loved one if you knew it was the last chance you could do so. They made CD of the interview and my kids got a kick hearing it. I really treasure the bonding we got to do. I learned alot about my dad and I am grateful for the experience.

Erika- thanks so much for posting the picture! I hope your injury is better. See you at Applefest!

Susie I'm sure you'll be able to do the 50 miles--after all, you get to do it sitting down, right?!:rotfl:

Joanne Hope you resolve your knee issues quickly. Aren't they the most annoying body parts? And glad you had a chance to do the interview with your dad. There are times that I feel like our family's past is sliding away--need to document it somehow.

Hope everyone has a great training day. I did 3.4 in 32 minutes today. This marks the official beginning of my 1/2 training. I think I'm going to follow the MFM plan. I like that it's not all just increasing mileage every week--there are 1-2 slower weeks sprinkled in. And I think, (I don't have it in fornt of me) it has 2 rest days/week. Woohoo!

Maura

Hi everyone! I worked 12 hours yesterday 9-9 so the workout I was hoping for didn't happen. BUT...

DBF ordered nike plus, an arm band and a Nano for me. They should be here for this weekend! Yay! I can't wait to get them.

Now I have a question...

What songs or play lists does everyone have? It would be great to have some idea what other people listen to so that I can narrow down my choices.

Hi Goofs!

8 miles in 1:16:14 today.

The pain in my foot is now ONLY in my heel. Yes, I know this means its plain ole plantar faciitis. I have backed off the mileage. I am doing gentle stretching regularly. I am wearing my new running shoes constantly. I don't know what else to do. It has definately gotten better but it is still worrisome.

Joanne - let us know what they say about your knee. Hopefully it is nothing that a few days of rest and ice can help.

Cecilia

I have been diagnosed with some type of tendonitis. Not sure I believe the diagnosis because it was not quite the exam I was expecting. Course of treatment is NSAID around the clock for 14 days, rest, and possible PT. Not sure where this will put me in training or even if I can do MCM. I will have to maintain a 14 min/mile to beat the bridge at mile 19. Prior to this- no problem. I hope I can get a few long runs in. I am so sad- this is not what I planned on.

Hey Everybody! I hope everyone had an awesome weekend! My fiance and I spent the weekend in Delaware at the Nascar race!! We had a blast, but unfortunately I did not get any running in. Then last night, we had open house at school, and by the time I got home I was EXHAUSTED!! But, I was back at it today and went to the gym, despite not feeling so well today. Here is what I did:

3 miles in 36 min plus stretching

I felt pretty good in my workout despite not feeling so well. I am sticking with a run/walk plan right now to prevent injury. I am doing a r2/w1.5 this week.

Maura and Joanne--Congrats on your races!!

Joanne, I hope your knee is feeling better soon. I am sorry to hear about the new diagnosis. Rest for a couple of weeks, you may still be able to do your race. I had problems with my IT bands about a month before WDW in jan. and I basically did NO training for a month before the full, and I was fine during the race. As hard as it is, rest it. Hang in there!

mla---You will love your Nike plus...when I run outside in the park, I love it. As for play lists, I have everything from country to rock! I really need to add some new songs to my list as I am getting sick of the same old songs.

Cecilia--Take care of that foot! I think backing off your mileage is a good idea to rest it a bit.

Sorry to all those I missed!!! Keep up the good work!

Sorry to hear about your knee, Joanne. Mine is acting up a little as well, but it's just my plica band that bugs me every now and again. I hope you're back on your feet soon.

Another 2 miles in 22:42 tonight

Yay! I got a good workout today.

2 miles for 37:18 plus 15 minutes stretching and abs. I was able to speed up my jogging sections and most of my walking too.

Good morning Goofs!! I see that everyone is still working hard. Today is hump day and we need to keep pushing hard to get over it. The weekend is coming!!

So, who got kicked off BL last night. I fell asleep again. I am completely exhausted lately...:sad2:

I got my 7 in, 9:50 mpm overall average including my 2 easy miles and my 3 minute recoveries in between the 1.25 tempo intervals. I started out not feeling the love but by the end I was feeling pretty good about running and myself in general. Ahhh, love the run. Today is XT and I am taking my mom Christmas shopping. Don't pass out. She leaves for Florida the day we come back from WDW and will be gone the whole winter. She likes to have our things done and wrapped sitting in her apartment so she does not have to mail packages. :upsidedow So I will be mall walking today!! And of course I may have to have something new for the WDW trip.....

Joanne, take care of that knee. I hope you will be well enough to still do the Applefest with us. I am so looking forward to it!!

Cecilia, take care of that PF. Makes me cringe just thinking about it. I am so religious about doing my stretches and icing after my runs now that I don't even give it a thought anymore. I swear, I come in the house after a run and the kids and dogs vacate my stretching area!! :wizard: That this heals quickly!!!

Have a super Wednesday Goofs and keep up the great work!!! :cheer2:

Joanne - logged in just to see what they said about your knee. I hate that it wasn't what you hoped for. Rest, NSAID and ice for 24 hours and see how it feels. I think you will be shocked at how much rest helps. I know I was. I also know how hard it is to rest when you want to train. It makes you completely crazy. Hang in there.

Cecilia

Well...I can't seem to ice or stretch out the knee pain...so I'm going to the orthopod on Wednesday October 1.

Wish me luck!

Mike

Today's totals: 3.5 miles/41 min

Today, I did a 0.2 mile warm-up, then 3 miles at r2/w1.5, followed by a 0.3 mile cool-down. I felt pretty good despite not feeling well again today.

Mike--So sorry to hear about the knee. Rest it for a couple of days and then see what the ortho says. Good Luck!

To everyone else nursing injuries, hang in there.

Sorry for the drive-by, but I still have to eat dinner and it is getting late!

Mike and Joanne - sorry about your knee problems. Yikes! Here's some :wizard: :wizard: :wizard: for a speedy recovery.

Tuesday, Sept 23:

Steve: 20 miles, 1 hour, 20 minutes

Wednesday, Sept 24:

Susie: 18 miles, 1 hour 20 minutes
Steve: 10 miles, 45 minutes

So sorry to read about knee and plantar fasciitis issues. I hope everyone heals nicely and SOON!

I did 2 miles with my iPhone in tow. I don't usually run with it, but I just downloaded an app called TrailGuru that uses the phone's built-in GPS to calculate your time, distance, average speed, etc, and I was dying to play with the new toy. I was able to verify that Monday's "two-ish" mile route was almost exactly two miles on the dot. And I did it in 21:34 tonight. The funny thing is, the app recorded a 1.5-minute chunk of time where I was "stopped" but I know I was moving the whole time. Not sure what that was about, but I guess I'll figure it out once I've used the program a few more times. If I can get this working correctly, I might not "need" a Garmin after all!
