Falling into September Super Goofs Challenge

Today is a rest day for me...I had to schedule my workouts around other things this week. I am a track and field official during the school year and we have a pre-season meeting tonight, so I decided to make today my rest day and then run again tomorrow. I did get in some stretching today at school during my classes, so my legs feel great tonight!

disneyluv--A class called BodyAttack sounds crazy!! I might be afraid to take a class like that!

Maura--I am definetely excited for January to see everyone again. It is great to meet everyone that is on the boards! I can't wait!!

Hope everyone had a great wednesday!!

A couple of updates...I've been so tired this week that working out is the last thing on my mind.

Sunday...30 mins bike/5.90 miles

Tuesday...32 mins walk/2.01 miles
45 mins bike (watching the Biggest Loser!)/9.27 miles

already did 45 mins of mowing today in 100 degree weather and am about to get on the bike so will post more tomorrow

9:09/17:38 hours
67.50/115.07 miles

Good morning Goofs!! I have made an adjustment to the roster. I have removed UP Disney and JimmDuck from our list. They have not reported in a month and have not contacted me either. If either of you are out there, please let us know your status.

ReAnSt: I know you are injured and are keeping you on the injured reserve list.

Laurie: Congrats on the Goofy sign up. I am jealous but look forward to all the reports.

Maura: I did the half last year and you will have a GREAT time with all the WISHers there. It was nice putting faces to names. There were no nametags at last year's meet and that will surely make a big difference this year.

Mike: Swimming in a retention pond...:scared1: I am with Cecilia here. I won't even swim in the local river, icky.....

Helen: Bodyattack??? :scared1: You will have to describe the class for us. It sounds SCARY!!

Joanne: Multiple loads of laundry...my tip is buy a bigger washer!! LOL. I have a large capacity front loader. Of course, then you still have to dry them and fold them and put them away....:laundy:

Lynn: I hope you are feeling better! :flower3:

Kim: Great job on the workouts. :yay: for the extra mile. I agree the cooler temps are great!!

Beth: You rock girl!!!

Suzanne: So, who got voted off BL? I fell asleep. Job hazard waking up at 4 a.m....10 p.m. is WAY past my bedtime!

Everyone else: :dance3: Happy dance, it is almost Friday!!

As for me, I have been getting my miles in just not according to plan. Well the revised plan for the week but not the real plan anyway. I did 4 on Tuesday with lots of walking and then 6 yesterday at a 9:57 average pace so I guess I am on the mend. Bought myself a pair of crop pants for fall weather. I also realize I need long sleeve shirts. Good thing I have a birthday coming!!

Have a great day everyone and keep up the good work!!

Yesterday I rode for 3 hours (yikes! I had a make up lesson so back to back flat work). My legs are sore today! It was then followed by a 7 mile run with my poor dog. I have 2 loops in my neighborhood. One is 5 the other 2. Since 7 was on the books I did the longer of the two first. Poor Bella needed to take alot of walk breaks. I managed an average of 14 min/mile on the loop- not sure how we did that. (I know its slow but we did walk a bit) The 2 mile loop went so much faster after I dropped her off!

Lisa- when I am not feeling well or my knee hurts or what ever the excuse of the day is, I will walk the distance (at a good pace) I was supposed to be running. It works for me and I end up feeling so much better after getting some fresh air and moving.

Hi Goofs

 No miles for Wednesday.

My left foot has not completely recovered from the 'tight lace' trauma and so I decided to give it another day of rest. The big risk is full blown tendonitis which would bring my training to a screeching halt. It was killing me not to run - I was crazed all day.

Lesson learned. I will not tie my shoes too tight. If they feel tight, I will take the time to stop and loosen them.

Dh and my running partner thought I was cumpulsive about my shoe laces before this but now I will be worse than ever!! I am adding 2 minutes to all my future race times now to cover shoe issues and prevention.

Cecilia Sorry to hear about your foot and hope it heals soon.

groovy I agree with the walking part. Lately, it just feels great to walk outside for 1/2 hour--now if only the dog wouldn't lurch all over the place and the weather would stay sunny and 75!

I did 3.25 miles (31 minutes) this a.m. and some stretching afterwards for a total of 45 minutes.

4.9 miles, 50 minutes...the last 1.5 mile was walking since training partner is recovering from a cold and couldn't breathe...

Mike

update:

I ran 4.4 miles today. (43:38)

I wanted to go 6 but I went to Fleet Feet instead. It turns out the Nikes I have been wearing do not have the stability that I normally get in a shoe. They were more about cushion. So now, when I start putting some real mileage in, the lack of stability starts showing.

Well thats the theory anyway. I got some fancy new Saucony Hurricanes with maximum stability to see if that helps the problem. We shall see.

What's up Goofs!!!! Just got back from the gym:

5.5 miles/64 min.

I probably won't be getting a run in this weekend, since my fiance and I are heading to the Nascar race in Dover this weekend. We are leaving tomorrow right after work and won't be home till sunday night. We are camping right at the track, so hopefully it won't be that cold at night!!!

Suzannews--still 100 degress...ugh!! Luckily it has cooled down quite a bit this week in NJ....hope the cooler weather finds you soon!

lisa--glad to hear you are on the mend! WTG for getting those miles in!

Cecilia--You were smart to rest another day, you don't want to take any chances and make it worse. Hope the new shoes help. I have always worn Nike running shoes, I tried to change last year one time, and I hated the new shoes, so I will never use anything but Nike now.

To anyone I missed, Keep up the good work!! Hope all the Goofs have a GREAT weekend!!!

Added to my totals for Thursday:

additional 35 min
additional 5 miles

went for a bike ride with the boys! :goodvibes

Beth

HI goofs

I think I am on the mend.

yesterday 3.1 miles in 45 minutes on the TM the total exercise time was 60 minutes.

Today 7.2 miles on the stationary bike in 30 minutes.

Take care all Goofs. I appreciate all of you

Another 2 miles tonight in 24:09. This week, the daily runs did not kick my butt. Finally! But I am looking forward to the day off tomorrow anyway.

Happy Friday Super Goofs. This is also last chance workout day for this week. Make it a good one!!!

I chose to walk yesterday. I am still coughing up yucky stuff and was feeling a little tired. I did not get the full 5 in due to a visit from the animal control officer over a CALF. Yes a baby cow that some crazy woman up the road thinks we are neglecting. An hour and a half later, having explained that it has a vitamin E deficiency, has had a shot and it starting to walk now, the animal control officer left happy. I was  . I was  at missing my workout, that I had no time left and      at the woman up the road. She had called last week and I explained the problem to her with the calf and she STILL called animal control...:sad2:

So, I walked at the track before picking up DS7 at school and taking him to soccer practice. I walked until the last possible minute and still only got 3.3 miles in. It did help work off my frustration though and I was able to make it through the rest of the day feeling okay with life in general.

Sorry this is all about me but I have to vent it somewhere. DH is just :furious: and wants to get her number off the caller ID and invite her down for veal. I have to admit that the calf is a poor little bugger. He is a month old and no bigger than my dog (I have a huge dog) and he walks like my FIL who had a hip replacement but, he is getting better, he can move and he is eating...all good points.

Oh and just so you are all in the know, as far as cattle are concerned, they have to have access to shelter (trees only), access to food and access to water. Um, hello, this is not your dog.....:rolleyes1

What can I say....City folks shouldn't move to the country...

I, unfortunately, am a city raised country guy...I'd MUCH rather live on a couple of hundred acres with woods and a stream and lots of cute animals to eat...but hunny said not only no but h e double hockey sticks no!

:(

So I savor it every time I can see a horizon, and not houses.

That caring compassionate woman up the road is VERY disconnected from where her food comes from...I'm convinced that most people think meat grows out of the ground in little white and clear plastic packages, and are harvested by singing children then stacked neatly in carbon neutral refrigerated trucks to be delivered to the local store.

BAH! My training partner is going to wish I hadn't read this before our run...he's in for it! :lmao:

Mike

Thanks Mike. I really do understand that this woman was trying to do the right thing but, raising cattle is sometimes harsh. Life and death are part and parcel. We do what we can for the little buggers but they are still a wild/domesticated animal and some things are out of your control. I guess a lot of people do not think of their animals that way and I do not of my dogs nor did I ever of my horses. Cows are cows and yes meat generally walks around and has big brown eyes too. Don't be too hard on your running partner, it's all good here.

On a better note, we have a NEW PLAYER joining the Super Goof team. Mla1977 from PA is the newest member of this Goofy bunch. I am hoping she stumbles on in soon and introduces herself!!!! :flower3:

Hi all! I just got sent over here to join the team! I'm going to go through the thread some time today to get to know everyone. The Marathon in my siggie links to my running blog. It's relatively new, so there aren't many posts yet. I'll probably head over there next to update what I've done so far this week.

Hello all.

I am wearing my new hurricanes and planning on taking them for a test spin later. :)

Lisa - My sisters and I each spent one summer at my Uncle's ranch in Arizona. The summer I was there, I kept wanting to name the calves. Finally my uncle let me name two with distinctive markings. One was Tbone and the other was Sirloin. The lesson stuck.

Cecilia: :lmao: I started out letting the kids name them "meat", "dinner" and the like but they understand fully about life and death and the realities that lie within. We had a stillborn earlier this summer and my DD13 and I had to go load it into the Gator while DH dug a hole to bury it.

I do have to say that dealing with adversities such as these also helped my DD through my dad's death. It is part of life and some people die before others and some cows die before others. It is really not our choice and we do not really need a reason why either. Okay, I will hop off my morbid soap box now.

So, our newest member has checked in on this, my morbid soapbox day. I am not usually really like this, no really, I'm not (stop laughing you guys). :upsidedow I am your true blue captain and the aforementioned Cecilia (Cruella de Mom) is your co-captain. We post whenever you have a chance, daily, weekly whatever works. Our weeks go from Saturday to Friday so today is the last day of this particular week. If you have miles you would like to add from last week, please do so. I am a little behind on the spreadsheet but I promise to catch up soon (stop laughing again). You can report all miles and/or minutes that come from exercising during the week. If you push mow your lawn that counts, do yard work, gardening anything that breaks a sweat (okay now Mike stop laughing). Any activity that does not incur miles (such as aerobics, etcetera) is recorded just in minutes and anything that does incur miles (run, bike, walk) counts miles and minutes. I hope I explained that right??!! :surfweb:
