I'm here now on a quick Birthday trip - and boy has it been eventful! I'll try to break it all down soon (going home tonight :sad1:) but wanted to check in quickly and tell you about my close encounter with the Tree of Life.

On Saturday evening, we were heading in to see It's Tough to be a Bug. There were 2 other couples on the trail right in front of us. As we all approached one of the little side trails with a bench there was a crazy rustling in the bush next to the path. The couples on front kind of kept walking, but I was totally sure that a wild animal was about to jump out of that bush at us! I mean, we're in the Animal Kingdom, so that's where my mind went.

I was so relieved when only a large branch came out of the bush. One of the guys walked back to look at it - we were all surprised to see it was fake. It kind of looked like a branch from a fake Christmas tree, with a metal rod sticking out the end. Anyway, we all just walked away and I told the first CM that we came to that a branch had fallen. And that was that. UNTIL...

I was watching the local news this morning and they said that the Tree of Life had been closed because a branch fell on Saturday!!!!

I haven't had much time to read the boards, because, well, I'm at Disney! But I had to share. I'm heading home at 4am - will check back in when I get home.

I feel so bad that they closed everything, but 3 feet to the right and this might have been a much different story...

We had an bad encounter with a branch/tree at AK. The last curve on EE right before you slow down had a 6-7 foot branch/small tree that had fallen down over the track. The bad part was it wasn't all the way down it was being held up by something but we were lucky it hit the front of the car and bounced to the side. If it was up about another foot it would have hit my Bro in-law and nephew.:scared1: When we were getting off we told the CM's and they shut the ride down immediately

Glad you're okay!!

Wish someone had snapped a picture of the branch-- would've loved to seen it!

Hope you had a great trip! pixiedust:

Sorry - I saw that but it had turned into a thread about kids being afraid of It's Tough to be a Bug.

Yea now that I look back at that thread, thats what it appears to be.

Did you post on that thread? I'm sure people there would like to hear a first hand account. I think that's what I had in mind when I pointed you there.

:scared1:, I'm glad that none of you were hurt:hug:

That sounds like the first-hand account. ;)

Glad you're okay, OP.

What a Tree of Life (or Death) encounter! I'm glad you are alright! Thanks for sharing!

Tree of Death! :lmao:

That was what it was going to be called when it was going to be Beastly Kingdom. Jim Hill said so. ;)

Whoa! Glad you're ok, and how bizarre!

I'd heard about this online as well, but you definitely have the unique eyewitness viewpoint!

Glad none of you were hurt! I keep checking for some new info but there doesn't seem to be anything yet, fingers crossed its nothing too serious :worried:

I would have been surprised had the branch not been fake, given the tree it fell from.

I wasn't expecting it to be fake, because it just didn't occur to me that it came from the actual "tree" itself. I thought it was from one of the real trees around the area.

I have to hunt through my pics and see if I took one. I don't think I did - I take millions of pictures, but of course not the important one  It didn't seem like such a big deal at the time.

But that would be my luck - to be taken out by the Tree of Life at Disney... :lmao:

If there are branches loose over by EE too, it sounds like there is big safety check in order. Looking back, the scariest part was that there was some indication that the cast members knew my branch was loose/about to fall.

I thought everything I read said the branch didn't fall near any guest or cast areas?
This sounds pretty close to a guest area....

Your post here where it isa better fit. Thanks Danny
