Fall Advantage 2011 :)

Hey Fall and FA 2011 friends! Guess what! We are one year away from moving to Disney!!!!! I think we've all been waiting a long time to say that!

Isn't it such a crazy feeling?! IF I get accepted I don't know how I'm gonna get through the entire summer next year. It just baffles me to think that in just a few months I'll know for sure whether or not I'm moving to Disney World. :o

Just a quick question for everyone: Do you hope to work for Disney in the future or are you doing the CP for a fun resume booster?

I would love to have the opportunity to work for Disney or any of it's subsidiaries in the future, but my biggest reason for wanting to do the program is for the experience. I hesitate to call it a resume booster, because I would probably do regardless. Also, I feel like so many other activities I'm doing for school are actual resume boosters that I'd like to do this for me.

My current career path is law, so if I do end up working for Disney it will be in the far future!

I'm in the same boat as illini4princess. it's hardly a resume booster for me, it's just something I really want to do, and doing the CP is really my only opportunity to get to work at Disney World. The CP really doesn't relate to my major (secondary education/history and possibly pre-law) but I figure now is as good a time as ever to try it. :)

(not to say that I'd rule out working at WDW in the future... maybe I can teach at Celebration Academy and then be a CM in the summertime, ha ha ha)

The CP is my way of getting my foot in the door in the company. It is my lifelong dream to work and perform in Entertainment at Disney. I want it more than anything else. I've auditioned for FT/PT/Seasonal and keep getting told I'm good enough, I've passed the audition, but there isn't room (mostly because of CP's...) - so I'm going to be one of those CP's who get the spot and then hopefully become a FT CM after.

Hey guys! I'm not applying for Fall advantage..but Spring advantage!! :D It will be my third program!!

Third program? Wow that's awesome! If you don't mind me asking, I'd love to know how you've managed to do two programs so far. Are you still on track for graduating in 4 years? If so, how?? Lol, I really really want to do the Spring 2011 program, but I'm concerned about being possibly a semester behind. It would be amazing if I could do two programs, because I think fall would be so much fun!

:goodvibes

Well I am doing the Career Start program which in the long run once we get to Disney is the same as the CP. Its for people who arnt in college at the moment. I first did a program in Fall of 09 and extended till May of 10'. Just got home in fact :(. I'm wanting to go fulltime.

Just a quick question for everyone: Do you hope to work for Disney in the future or are you doing the CP for a fun resume booster?

First, I'm doing it for the experience and I have the opportunity to do so now. I think I wouldn't mind working for Disney in the future so the CP can help me make that decision. Also since I'm aiming to go to grad school for film, I've found that many of the studios or related companies I would most likely intern or work for located in California, are all pretty much owned by Disney! So it looks like I was already on the path to working for Disney, I just didn't know it. :rolleyes1

That's awesome that you seemed to enjoyed your time there. You only have a few months left when you can apply too. :cheer2:

I'm joining the hopeful ranks for the Fall 2011 program. I have a year of school left to finish my A.A., so this would be a nice finish. My top choices for roles would be Entertainment Costuming, Merchandise, then Attractions. Disneyland or WDW suits me either way.

If only these 8 months could come sooner. But then again the planner that I am is grateful for the time to prep for interviews and such.

Yay! Even more people! We have a facebook group if you haven't joined it yet! It's so exciting to know that we will be in Disney (getting ready to go) in one year!!!! :)

I want to do the college program to get my foot in the door with the company. I know so many people from my college (esp. dance majors) who have done the CP and are now working for disney as character performers, face characters, and one girl is touring with disney in a europe show!!
I'm only going to be a junior if I make the Fall 2011 program so I want to do the college program or a professional intership after I graduate from college whenever that may be.
My ultimate goal is to work for Disney! It's my dream! :wizard:

Great, I'll have to look for it, then.

Are you a dance major yourself? I had dance lessons for most of my life, just didn't have the discipline for it though I still dance for the love of it.

I'm a little behind, with all the things going on, I have kinda lost track of this awesome thread! As far as which role, I am kind of torn. Everyone here expects me to go for character performer because I am a very music/theatre/dance type person. I would love to do it, but, I am of a popular height I think (5'3") and I heard that you don't get as many hours. So now I am thinking either merchandise (I work at Petco part time and I love it), or Attractions.

Answer to the other question, it used to be that I wanted to permanently work for Disney, but, according to one of my professors, I have been bitten by the "teaching bug" and I cannot wait until I get to teach. So, now, the College Program seems like something that I need to do for myself, and I think I can learn a lot of things that I can incorporate into teaching.

Sorry, this was very drawn out :rotfl:

Well, why don't you audition for character performer and just see what happens? :D I think CPers are guaranteed 35 or 40 hours a week minimum anyway, but I don't know if that's for sure. But at least that would eliminate most of your worries! And even more so, the fact that it's so hard to be accepted as a performer to begin with, well, you might not even have to worry about it haha.

And your reasons for doing the CP regarding teaching are the same as my own. :) People usually look at me like I'm crazy when I tell them I'm an edu major and want to do the CP, because they don't see any correlation. But I definitely think there's tons to learn from the CP that I can use later on!

I concur, it can't hurt to try out for character performer. If you get it, whoopee! And if you don't, you will know that you tried and can move on to another CP role that you'll be happy with.

Thanks all! I think that is what I will probably do. Now, I must figure out how to convince my mother that this whole program is a good idea...that's the hard part. Not that it matters anyway, I'm an adult, but her support matters, ya know?

Darling we are in the exact same boat!
My mom has acknowledged that, yes, I'm a legal adult and can make my own decisions... but no one in my family has really been encouraging at ALL when it comes to the CP. :confused3

That's why I'm glad we have these boards otherwise I'd be way too disheartened to even try applying. So happy I have everyone here :D

We're all here for you guys!! We'll definitely be supportive the whole way through.

I am so blessed to have a family that fully supports me- however, they know that this is my dream and I'm headed to Florida anyway lol They know there's no stopping me!

Thanks so much everyone! It is so nice to have so much help! I love my parents, but they are very strict, overprotective, and close minded at times. I had to argue to become a music major! But, now, I love my choices, and I am really excited about this whole thing! Especially with so many of you lovely people applying too!

I am!!! I couldn't imagine not dancing through college. I've always loved it, and I hope I can do it for as long as I can! :yay:
