That night, after a nice break I headed to the Animal Kingdom Lodge for dinner at Boma. This was a meal I had really been looking foward to. Boma was the first restaurant I ate at on my first solo trip, and it's been a favorite of mine ever since. Plus, I hadn't eaten there my last two trips, so I was anxious to eat there again, especially since I heard it was possibly the best restaurant on property with vegetarian options, and I actually ate completely vegetarian that whole day.
I arrived early, but ended up waiting half an hour, and past my ADR time for a table to be ready. Once I was seated, my server was nice, but kind of slow towards the end of the meal, and I ended up waiting awhile for plates to be cleared and my drink to be refilled. I was also seated next to a family with a little girl who would not sit still. I know it's Disney, and there are going to be kids, but must they run around the table, which at a buffet is not only annoying, but also seems dangerous, and throw food?
Anyway, the food tonight was fantastic. And this might possibly be the best meal I'd ever had at Boma, and I really thought the last time I ate here would be hard to top.
I had some falafel, with some kind of yogurt sauce, that was slightly spicy. I really liked these, they were very well prepared, and not greasy at all. The next thing on my plate, (going clockwise,) was some kind of cous cous or quinoa salad, which honestly I don't remember very well. Then there was the corn and spinach "pudding" which was like a very thick savory custard, which I liked, though the texture got very boring after a few bites. They had chakalaka on the buffet, which was stewed tomatoes to us Americans, so I grabbed some macaroni and cheese to eat with it, and that was a delicious combination. The card at the buffet said that the tomatoes were spicy, but I didn't think they were too spicy at all. I also had black eye peas in ginger juice, which I liked, and fufu, which are mashed sweet potatoes, which have always been one of my favorite things at Boma.
This is the butternut squash soup. I considered a bowl of the she crab soup, which I have always loved before, but instead of the creamy white soup I'm used to, it was some thin orange colored soup, that didn't look very appealing at all. The butternut squash soup was delicious as always.
On my last plate before I hit the desserts, I had two types of salad. One was just a regular spring mix blend, which I believe, apple vinaigrette, which I thought was very nice, and the vinaigrette wasn't too overpowering, which I find a lot of vinaigrettes to sometimes be. The other salad was a mix of spinach, apple or pear, and cous cous, or maybe it was quinoa. I forget exactly what was in it, but it was really good. I also had some pita bread with sun-dried tomato hummus, which I've had many times, and is also very good.
The desserts had almost completely changed since the last time I was there.
Starting with the yellow dessert and going clockwise, was a what I think was, a passion fruit tart, apple cobbler, peanut butter tart, chocolate-cinnamon mousse, chocolate espresso tart, and in the center is a caramel cheesecake.
I didn't really like the passion fruit tart, I thought it was too tart, (no pun intended,) and the texture was very jello like, which I didn't enjoy. The rest of the desserts, however I thought were pretty good, except perhaps for the caramel cheesecake, which I thought was a little bland. But, the rest were good, and the peanut butter tart was fantastic, with a peanut brittle crust, so good!
Boma is still one of my favorites! And two days later I ended up eating breakfast there, so be sure to keep an eye out for that review!
