Honest Discussion About Motion Sickeness

I am not sure there is a huge difference in motion based on where you are on the ship. Yes, lower and the middle of the ship for a stateroom will be better, but not sure how much better. Besides most of the activities on the ship are going to be UP and FORWARD and AFT anyway where the motion is greatest. Just depends on how sensitive a person is to motion. Modern large cruise ships in normal seas are stabilized so well, there is very little motion. My first cruise was on a small ship with no stabilizers. Of boy, you did feel the waves there. But our last two cruises. (on Princess and Celebrity) were a bit disappointing because of the lack of motion. Felt like a land resort.

Another suggestion regarding motion sickness, look for Sea Bands (might be under other names) instead of medication. Before our first cruise our son did lots of research for us regarding various methods to use. He hit on the Sea Bands as there would be no problem or ill effects due to medications his father was taking.

They are a band that you position on your wrist. You should be able to find them at a local drugstore, Walmart, etc. They worked like a charm for us.

Seconding sea bands - they are absolute game changers.

I definitely was visualizing an elevator and still proceeded to type out escalator smh.

Does anyone have experience in a forward cabin? I’m just wondering how much movement we are talking about up there.

The motion sickness worry is a hypothetical Concern from someone that has never been on a cruise before.
We usually stay on deck two, but have sailed on decks 8,9, and 10 as well. We stay midship to slightly aft. I have been concerned with trying gty and getting a forward cabin for fear of increased movement. We had some issues with an incessant banging day and night in our room on our last cruise. The only available cabin was on deck 6 almost all the way forward. We were having some rough seas at the time, and I struggled to even walk to the cabin with nausea overtaking me. I had to sit and look out the window for a few minutes while taking deep breaths to calm my stomach. Definitely realized forward cabins are not for us.
