Fall 2010 Dining Reviews - Updated 3/10

Mmm, I love calamari! Good to hear that Kouzzina's is good! Although-- DBF has a huge grudge against Cat Cora, so I doubt we'll be there soon!

I really liked your Kouzzina update! It's such a nice change from the usual menus at WDW and the food is pretty good!
Can't wait to good back! :goodvibes

great update, popcorn::
Thanks for reading!

I'm so looking forward to LaHacienda! Looks fabulous!
It's so yummy!

If you can't get to Kouzzina, Flying Fish has great calamari too - I'd actually put it above Kouzzina's.

I love Greek food, so this was a welcome addition to Disney for me. I can't wait to go back either.

I love the look of your goats cheese dish at Kouzzina :cloud9:
It was so yummy. I love goat cheese anything.

Okay, this isn't even really a review, but more of a rant. I went to Magic Kingdom after my dinner at Kouzzina, and wanted a snack later at night. It was in between Wishes and Spectro Magic, so Main Street was crowded, but I managed to get to Casey's Corner, where I got an order of fries, and some cheese sauce to dip them in.

I went outside to find a table, and there were none available. Almost all of the tables were being used, but no one was eating, they were just sitting there, waiting for Wishes to start. I don't think that's right. I think the tables should be reserved for those eating, and not just for anyone to sit at just because they want to sit down. There are a ton of benches all around the park, and they could leave the table open for those dining.

So I had to eat my fries standing up, with by bag in one hand, and my tray in the other, trying to not get in the way of people walking by. It was not a very good experience.

The fries themselves were good, but I almost threw them away just so I wouldn't have to deal with having to eat standing up.

That deserves a rant!!I was annoyed reading it without having to experiance it!

Thank you! I've never had a problem finding a seat at other restaurants, especially since it was an "off" hour for dining.

I actually ate here a few times during my trip that I'm not going to bother to review, since I don't have pictures from most of the times I ate there, and I have "Intermission" written in my notes, but without my pictures, I don't even remember what I ate there.

But today I went to a water park with Cathryn and other people, and when we got back we all had lunch at Intermission.

I had the cheese quesadilla. It took awhile to get it made, since the first one they made had chicken in it. I get that it was a mistake, and that didn't bother me, but the chef there seemed kind of arrogant when he had to make another one with cheese only. But what bothered me the most was when I touched the first one, and noticed the chicken, they took it back and put it in the window to serve to someone else, after I had touched it. I wouldn't want something that someone else had touched.

The quesadilla I did have was fine, luckily it came with sour cream, guacamole, and salsa, and they gave it a lot more flavor. It would've been very boring without it. The rice and beans that came with it were good, lots of cilantro, which I used to hate, but now I think it gives a good flavor to Mexican food, and Asian too.

I also got a brownie, since it was included, but only had a small piece of it, since I didn't really care about it, and gave the rest to the kids.

I definatly would never go out of my way to eat at Intermission, but it's fine for a food court.

Ewwww! That's a HUGE no-no to redistribute food that has been returned. YIKES! I'm sure no one would get sick from you , but still!

Oh wow, I think I'd report that to Disney. That is GROSS! (not you of course, what the chef did)

I know! I knew I had just washed my hands a couple of minutes ago, or at least used sanitizer. But still, I was touching trays and the counter, etc, so who knows what got on my hands that I passed on to the food. I'm 99.9% certain no one probably got sick, but I was certified in food safety and know that could be a huge issue, and sometimes it doesn't take much to make someone sick.

Great reviews so far! I don't have enough time or TS credits to try all the places I want on our upcoming trip! I guess I need to book another one!

Even with nineteen days I still didn't have enough time or credits, and a few days I cancelled meals and ate CS instead because I just didn't feel like going. I had ADRs for places like Citricos, Blue Zoo, and Paradiso 37, all of which I really wanted to eat at, but it just didn't work out. There's always next year! :goodvibes

Blue Zoo is one of our favorite places to eat when we are at Disney World!! :) I love that place!! :)

I really liked it the one time I actually got to eat there. I always seem to cancel it when I have an ADR there. The one thing I don't like about the DDP is the restaurants it excludes, and I get why places like Blue Zoo aren't included, but they're always the first ones I cancel, since when I'm not hungry, and don't even feel like using a credit, I certainly am not going to actually end up paying for a meal.

Maybe next trip, but I'm already thinking maybe deluxe dining next year, and I know if I do that, Blue Zoo is not going to happen.

That night, after a nice break I headed to the Animal Kingdom Lodge for dinner at Boma. This was a meal I had really been looking foward to. Boma was the first restaurant I ate at on my first solo trip, and it's been a favorite of mine ever since. Plus, I hadn't eaten there my last two trips, so I was anxious to eat there again, especially since I heard it was possibly the best restaurant on property with vegetarian options, and I actually ate completely vegetarian that whole day.

I arrived early, but ended up waiting half an hour, and past my ADR time for a table to be ready. Once I was seated, my server was nice, but kind of slow towards the end of the meal, and I ended up waiting awhile for plates to be cleared and my drink to be refilled. I was also seated next to a family with a little girl who would not sit still. I know it's Disney, and there are going to be kids, but must they run around the table, which at a buffet is not only annoying, but also seems dangerous, and throw food?

Anyway, the food tonight was fantastic. And this might possibly be the best meal I'd ever had at Boma, and I really thought the last time I ate here would be hard to top.

I had some falafel, with some kind of yogurt sauce, that was slightly spicy. I really liked these, they were very well prepared, and not greasy at all. The next thing on my plate, (going clockwise,) was some kind of cous cous or quinoa salad, which honestly I don't remember very well. Then there was the corn and spinach "pudding" which was like a very thick savory custard, which I liked, though the texture got very boring after a few bites. They had chakalaka on the buffet, which was stewed tomatoes to us Americans, so I grabbed some macaroni and cheese to eat with it, and that was a delicious combination. The card at the buffet said that the tomatoes were spicy, but I didn't think they were too spicy at all. I also had black eye peas in ginger juice, which I liked, and fufu, which are mashed sweet potatoes, which have always been one of my favorite things at Boma.

This is the butternut squash soup. I considered a bowl of the she crab soup, which I have always loved before, but instead of the creamy white soup I'm used to, it was some thin orange colored soup, that didn't look very appealing at all. The butternut squash soup was delicious as always.

On my last plate before I hit the desserts, I had two types of salad. One was just a regular spring mix blend, which I believe, apple vinaigrette, which I thought was very nice, and the vinaigrette wasn't too overpowering, which I find a lot of vinaigrettes to sometimes be. The other salad was a mix of spinach, apple or pear, and cous cous, or maybe it was quinoa. I forget exactly what was in it, but it was really good. I also had some pita bread with sun-dried tomato hummus, which I've had many times, and is also very good.

The desserts had almost completely changed since the last time I was there.

Starting with the yellow dessert and going clockwise, was a what I think was, a passion fruit tart, apple cobbler, peanut butter tart, chocolate-cinnamon mousse, chocolate espresso tart, and in the center is a caramel cheesecake.

I didn't really like the passion fruit tart, I thought it was too tart, (no pun intended,) and the texture was very jello like, which I didn't enjoy. The rest of the desserts, however I thought were pretty good, except perhaps for the caramel cheesecake, which I thought was a little bland. But, the rest were good, and the peanut butter tart was fantastic, with a peanut brittle crust, so good!

Boma is still one of my favorites! And two days later I ended up eating breakfast there, so be sure to keep an eye out for that review!

:thumbsup2 Love your review of Boma, even though we had a different experience there. ;) Maybe we did visit on an off day! :confused3
Your food even LOOKS so much better than ours on the plate! :goodvibes

I have to agree on the desserts, they were all quite nice, all apart from the "yellow thing" - passion fruit mousse if I remember somewhat correctly - I didn't like the "mouth-feeling" (is that a real word? :lmao:) at all. We don't have yello, but if this is the consistancy than I have no desire to taste it. ;)

Jello is a gelatin based dessert, and actually now that I think about it, that passion fruit thing probably definatly had gelatin in it, so was probably not vegetarian, but I used to really like jello when I was little, until I was like ten, and now I can't stand the stuff. Though I really liked making it when I was little with my grandma, and we'd cut it out with cookie cutters into shapes.

Thanks for explaining - it reminded me of the stuff they put on fruitcakes here, and that is gelatin and it's NOT one of my favourite things to eat! ;)

I can't imagine fruitcake with gelatin, that doesn't sound very good to me. When I make fruitcake, I always use dired apples, raisins, candied fruit, and lots of rum and bourbon.
