That flatbread at Tony's looks so disappointing. We have a ADR at Tony's next trip and I am so on the fence about it. Seeing more pictures like that won't help.

Looking foward to more:thumbsup2

I'm very excited to read your reviews. And disappointed that the flatbreads at Tony's were not very good. I think I'll scratch that off my list of things to try.

Feeling underdressed or wrongly dressed or peculiarly dressed is not your fault; the simple black dresses and the generally French attitude at the bistro makes everyone feel inadequate. Elizabeth II would wave it off, but the rest of us are tugging at our clothes and feeling fat. Pretend you are General Eisenhower and pass it off. Who won the war, anyway?

thanks for the great update. I love the pictures with your food reviews.
can't wait for more...popcorn::
Glad you're enjoying.

Great reviews so far :thumbsup2 Bistro de Paris looks so good.
Thanks for reading!

That pizza looks like plastic! :scared1:
Tasted like rubber, I was so dissapointed with this.

If you're looking for a good TS lunch, I prefer the Plaza and Liberty Tree Tavern to Tony's, or better yet, take the monorail to one of the resorts and eat at the Wave, Kona, or Grand Floridian Cafe.

Welcome! I wouldn't cut Tony's altogether out of your plans if you really wanted to eat there, I just would make sure to not order the flatbread.

I really wish I had worn a dress that night, if I eat there again, I will.

I wanted to sign on here yesterday, and never got around to do it! :scared1: But I am here yet - this is one review I don't wanna miss!! :goodvibes

The flatbread looks sad and not very yummy :sad2: - guess it was a good idea to drop Tony's from my list.

I've loved your past reviews and look forward to all that's to come in this review. Thank you taking the time to do such a detailed and thoughtful review of your Disney trip.

I was wondering when you'd pop by and say hi! Luckily Tony's was the worst table service meal of the trip, so it all gets better from here. And even Tony's wasn't truly bad, since I was able to enjoy the zuchinni fries. And that day any place with air conditioning I would've considered nice, lol, it was so hot my first few days there.

Welcome! And you're welcome, I enjoy writing them and helping fellow DISers out with their planning the way other reviews help me plan.

After spending the rest of the afternoon at the Magic Kingdom with my good friend Cathryn, making plans to meet up again for Wishes later that evening, I left the MK, heading to the Contemporary for dinner at what had become one of my favorite counter service restaurants last fall, the Contempo Cafe.

Last year I had a remarkably good beef flatbread there, which unfortunatly was no longer an option for me, since I gave up eating red meat. (Though I highly recommend it to every one.)

Conetmpo Cafe has a very limited vegetarian menu for lunch, though they start serving dinner at 5:00, which I knew would have more choices, and as it was after 4:30 by the time I got there, I decided to wait for the menus to change over.

At 5:00 I used the touch screen ordering system to order myself one of the vegetarian options, a roasted vegetable bake.

There were lots of potatoes sauteed in what I think was tumeric, with eggplant, onions, zucchini, and tomatoes, topped with feta cheese. (This is also I believe an option for vegans, as they have it available without the cheese.)

This was good, and filling, but it was easily something I could make at home, and it seemed more breakfast food or side dish to me then an actual dinner.

For dessert, which I actually didn't care about, but I wanted to give their cupcakes one more chance since they still look so good, I had the caramel dos leches cupcake.

This was much better then the cupcake I'd had last year, which had been extremely dry. This one was nice and moist in the center, though with the caramel filling and icing, it was just too sweet to eat all of it.

Contempo Cafe is still a good meal, but I don't think I can consider it one of my must-do's for counter service any more.

Today I went to Epcot at rope drop. I rode Soarin first thing and then stopped for breakfast at Sunshine Seasons.

I got a cheese danish and vanilla soy milk.

The danish was good, with plenty of cheese filling.

I spent the rest of the morning at Epcot, returning to the Land to use a Soarin Fast Pass I had gotten, I decided I'd have lunch at Sunshine Seasons as well.

Sunshine Seasons has one of the best vegetarian selections I found at any counter service meal this trip, (the other being Wolfgang Puck Express,) there was lots to choose from.

I had the grilled vegetable sandwich.

IMG_7126.jpg

It was a whole wheat flatbread filled with eggplant, zuchinni, peppers, onions, kalamata olives, feta, and what I think was a sun-dried tomato spread.

I liked it, except it was ice cold, and it would've been better if it had been served hot, or at the very least not right out of the fridge. (Though I understand why they'd have to serve it at that temperature for food safety reasons.) And the olives and spread were both a little over powering, I had to scrape some off.

It was served with an oil-based potato salad, which was good, but didn't have that much flavor to it. It was fine for a side dish though.

For dessert I had the orange bavarian cream.

I wasn't expecting much, but I really liked this. The cake was very moist, and the orange filling was very smooth and creamy, with a nice orange flavor.

Overall, Sunshine Seasons is still high on my list for counter service, and this was not the only time I ate there this trip. Though my next meal I didn't like quite so much.

After spending some time in World Showcase I headed to Hollywood Studios to meet up with my friend Cathryn and her son, for dinner at the Hollywood Brown Derby. I had been there several times before, but I think it was Cathryn’s first time there.

We were seated right away, and ordered a bottle of wine. I forget exactly what it was, but it was some kind of Riesling. Originally the server said we couldn’t use my Tables in Wonderland discount on it, since we were on a package for dinner, but that didn’t make any sense to us, since the wine was not included on the package, and he was able to get the manager or someone to override it, so we did get my discount on it. The wine itself was really good, it was on the sweeter side, which is what I like, and we drank the whole bottle throughout our meal.

Since we were there on the Fantasmic dinner package, we each got an appetizer, entrée, and dessert.

For my appetizer I had the seared day boat scallop.

It was served over black bean and corn pudding with mango and papaya salsa. I really liked this. The scallops were cooked perfectly, and the pudding part was delicious. It didn’t really need the salsa, but it went well with the rest of the dish.

The other appetizers ordered were the cobb salad;

Very finely chopped greens, topped with blue cheese, turkey, bacon, avocado, hard-boiled eggs, and tomatoes. We declined to having it tossed by our server at the table so I could pick some out without getting any bacon or turkey. What I had of it I really liked.

The last appetizer we had was the lump crab cake;

It was encased in a shredded potato crust, over some coleslaw and a mustard sauce. This was, in my opinion, the best appetizer of the three. There was huge lumps of crabs, and it was just delicious.

For entrees, I had the grilled Loch Duart salmon.

I really liked this. My fish was cooked very well, and the “salad” it was served on top of was delicious, full of peach slices and large chunks of one of the best blue cheeses I’ve ever tasted - Blue Affine, with a fig and honey dressing that was just delicious.

Cathryn had the *grouper* for her entrée, which I did get a picture of but didn’t try.

I can’t really give it a rating, since I didn’t actually try it, but it was grossly undercooked. I stuck my fork in it, and could just tell that it didn’t seem cooked enough. Plus when it was cut, the inside looked pretty raw.

Her son had the steak, which I didn’t take a picture of. He subbed fries for whatever potatoes usually came with it, and I did try the fries. They were horrible. I am honestly shocked that a restaurant like Brown Derby would served fries like that. They were cold, overly salty, and completely inedible. He said the steak was good though.

The three desserts we got were;

Grapefruit cake;

It’s basically just a regular yellow cake, with grapefruit-cream cheese frosting, but it’s really good. I only tried a couple bites, but I’d had it before, and this time it was much better.

We also had the banana-white chocolate-toffee tower.

This was really good as well. It had a banana fosters caramel sauce, and was very light and creamy.

The last dessert we had, which was my choice, was the shortbread-crusted cheesecake.

deb10531.jpg

It was three, rather large slices of cheesecake, honestly one slice would’ve been enough after the rest of that meal, with Grand Marnier-macerated strawberries. The cheesecake was very good, nice and creamy, but honestly my favorite part of it was the strawberries, they were really delicious.

I’d return to the Brown Derby. I would be happy to pay $50 for my dinner, but looking at the other entrees, I don’t see how that was a $200 meal. It was all on the dining plan, so it didn’t really matter, and with the appetizers included as well we left full.

Amazing updates. We love Brown Derby but I never ordered the Cobb salad. I can't wait to try in for our Decemer trip.

It was really good. My top choice would be the crab cake, but honestly, next time I eat there might just be for appetizers, they're the best part, and even with the FDP, it's not the greatest dollar value for DDP credits.

Brown Derby is now on my list :thumbsup2 It's somewhere I haven't eaten at for over 6 years but seeing your latest review, it's a must!

Delicious review. The crab cake looks divine along with the scallops
