After spending some time in World Showcase I headed to Hollywood Studios to meet up with my friend Cathryn and her son, for dinner at the Hollywood Brown Derby. I had been there several times before, but I think it was Cathryn’s first time there.
We were seated right away, and ordered a bottle of wine. I forget exactly what it was, but it was some kind of Riesling. Originally the server said we couldn’t use my Tables in Wonderland discount on it, since we were on a package for dinner, but that didn’t make any sense to us, since the wine was not included on the package, and he was able to get the manager or someone to override it, so we did get my discount on it. The wine itself was really good, it was on the sweeter side, which is what I like, and we drank the whole bottle throughout our meal.
Since we were there on the Fantasmic dinner package, we each got an appetizer, entrée, and dessert.
For my appetizer I had the seared day boat scallop.
It was served over black bean and corn pudding with mango and papaya salsa. I really liked this. The scallops were cooked perfectly, and the pudding part was delicious. It didn’t really need the salsa, but it went well with the rest of the dish.

The other appetizers ordered were the cobb salad;
Very finely chopped greens, topped with blue cheese, turkey, bacon, avocado, hard-boiled eggs, and tomatoes. We declined to having it tossed by our server at the table so I could pick some out without getting any bacon or turkey. What I had of it I really liked.

The last appetizer we had was the lump crab cake;
It was encased in a shredded potato crust, over some coleslaw and a mustard sauce. This was, in my opinion, the best appetizer of the three. There was huge lumps of crabs, and it was just delicious.

For entrees, I had the grilled Loch Duart salmon.
I really liked this. My fish was cooked very well, and the “salad” it was served on top of was delicious, full of peach slices and large chunks of one of the best blue cheeses I’ve ever tasted - Blue Affine, with a fig and honey dressing that was just delicious.

Cathryn had the *grouper* for her entrée, which I did get a picture of but didn’t try.
I can’t really give it a rating, since I didn’t actually try it, but it was grossly undercooked. I stuck my fork in it, and could just tell that it didn’t seem cooked enough. Plus when it was cut, the inside looked pretty raw.
Her son had the steak, which I didn’t take a picture of. He subbed fries for whatever potatoes usually came with it, and I did try the fries. They were horrible. I am honestly shocked that a restaurant like Brown Derby would served fries like that. They were cold, overly salty, and completely inedible. He said the steak was good though.
