Fake Pizza Places!!!

We never order from these places as we LOVE Flipper's and I'm too paranoid to order anywhere but places I know but we do make a game out of it. Every night we collect these just to see how many we get in one night shoved under our door. The record is 5 in one night when we stayed at a La Quinta.

Seams rather fishy that the OP said that as soon as he checked in he starting getting these flyers under his door. Would that suggest the hotel and the pizza place are working as a team to scam people out of money. If pizza places were putting flyers under the door randomly wouldn't there be a few already on the floor when he arrived? Seams odd that once someone checks in they begin getting these flyers. I agree stick with using the phone book and calling a well known pizza chain.

This is good info....thanks for sharing.

I have had them under the doors at RPR and I alway throw them away.:thumbsup2

Not odd or fishy at all ... most people know that the typical hotel check-out time is 11 a.m and the typical hotel check-in time is 3 p.m. I would think these people would know not to place flyers under the door until late afternoon, early evening as that is when most tourists would be checking in or arriving back from the parks.

We have much more fun with them; the minute we see a piece of paper slide under the door we call security and tip them off about where the runners are. It's great fun to hear the pounding feet as the security staff corner them (they routinely use the fire doors to move from one floor to another, so what security will do is wait for them in the stairwells. They tend to run, and come flying out of the stairwells and come running down the hall, only to be caught by the other security officer waiting in the middle of the hall.)

It's my understanding that the pizza flyer scam is often used by meth distributors; they have an unending supply of junkies who are able to keep running for hours and are willing to take their pay in drugs.

One time when we were staying in Orlando for a hurricane evacuation, we received one of these under our door. We made the mistake of ordering from this place. We paid in cash, so no credit cards were used. When the pizza was delivered, they also brought us soda which was a Walmart brand (Sam's Choice) which we found very odd. We ended up throwing the pizza away and going out to eat. Luckily, now the hotels and the tourist channel warn people against ordering from these places.

This was years and years ago, but as we were checking into a Days Inn right off property for our last night, mentioned to the desk clerk we were going to call a cab to the airport in the morning. "Oh let me do that for you. $20 to the airport." This sounded good (we knew no better) and agreed. Next day we are driven to the airport and all of a sudden the cost was $45! We told the guy (honestly) that we were out of money, and were told it would be $20. We gave him $25 and walked away. He didn't protest very much, so I always assumed it was a scam involving the front desk guy and the cab. I'm sure there is collusion and kickbacks. Heck, when I worked at Enterprise Rent a Car (hardly a no name company) we were told that if a hotel employee calls for a rental for a guess to take $5 or so as a tip to the caller. So these things do happen.

Ever been to NYC ? Every hotel we've stayed at there has tried to pull that scam on us. They call a buddy with a car, or who works with a car service, but either way the car has no meter. It has also happened to us in Orlando but we never actually get into the car if it's not a real cab. Now we skip the front desk and call Mears ourselves.

I don't know why hotels would bother doing scams with the fake pizza thieves though, their goal is to get your CC info and hotels already have it.

I guess I was thinking the desk staff might turn a blind eye to the pizza flyer people for some cash. They wouldn't be doing something illegal themselves, but still making money off the scheme.

Ahhh okay that makes more sense to me :) Yes, that's very possible.

Thats a good point that you made. I didn't really think of it like that. However, it was right at the time that the hotel allows guests to check in, so I assumed perhaps the pizza people may know what time guests are allowed to check into rooms, and then maybe start sliding fliers underneath doors an hour or so afterward.

go to google and type in "pizza roma orlando" and you should see a link to click from Urban Spoon that has reviews on the place. it will show you other people's reviews on the shady pizza place that I personally used as well during my last visit. there is also a pic of their menu and name, and even their location. some of the reviews are funny

thanks for posting.

we must be lucky that we've never had anything under our door when we travel anywhere.

we also don't order stuff on the phone. only once did we do this in Virginia Beach.

off season they don't have many restaurants open so we thought we'd order from Dominos - YUCK tasted like cardboard LOL but - big but - we looked them up in the phone book

sometimes we look at the binder that is usually placed in our room and i always hope the hotel puts their advertising in the binder because they know the restaurant.

gotta love the internet and iphone apps - these businesses won't last much longer when more and more people start researching a little before the go out to eat or use the apps and read the reviews before the go in

I live in south florida, so I decided to take a weekend off from work and go up to orlando to universal and islands. I bought an annual pass so that I can go to the parks each month. Before I got to orlando, I booked a night in the hotel "swan imperial", which is right next to wet 'n' wild. Let me start off by saying that this hotel was chosen mainly because it was the cheapest that I could find online. Cost me about 59 dollars for a night(with my AAA discount). The main lobby looked like the hotel could be somewhat nice, but once I got into the hallways where the rooms were, I noticed a mildew smell and it was also extremely hot in the hallways, almost as if the heat was on or something. After being in my room for a couple hours I started getting pizza fliers slid under my room door. DO NOT EVER ORDER FROM THOSE PLACES! They are places that steal your credit card information and purchase things with it, the pizza they deliver to you is low quality and is tasteless, half the time you don't get what you ordered, the delivery person always makes you meet them in the lobby of the hotel(they don't even deliver in a marked pizza delivery car), and they tell you it will take 45 minutes, when in reality it takes 2-3 hours. If you're going to order pizza, use a place that is well known.

The same thing happen to a hotel called the Micotel Inn off Canada Avenue too. I checked in to the hotel and thought the hotel lobby AC was out. Said okay give benefit of the doubt went hotel room and the AC was in the room too. The hotel was cheap and had good reviews. The chemical smell sent into a asthma attack and I had not one in years.

For the hotel pizza flyers is crazy that need be stop. If coming into hotel room and slip fall on those darn things.

I've also heard that some of those shady pizza places use the act of dropping off flyers as a way to case the hotel/resort to try and determine which rooms might be worth breaking into or are occupied.

I just read the reviews of Roma Pizza on Urban Spoon and you're right, they are hilarious! :lmao:
That might be the worst pizza place in America.

I love that you guys made an entertaining game using the flyer runners! :rotfl2: Something tells me they didn't come back to your hotel for a while after being chased through the halls by security.

I have no luck for the past 10 years ordering delivery or take out in the orlando area. Plenty of great food to be had by room service or dining out in the park restaurants. We put those fake delivery flyers in the trash when those people slip them under our door at the condo in florida. Some might be legit but who wants to take the risk. Lots of food poisoning and credit card theft to be had.
