Fake names for Cast Members

It's the same at Disneyland. One CM I knew, Amber, (she's gone now) was always forgetting her nametag and borrowed them from another CM in the same area named Tiffany, who always has 2 with her. Sometimes there's just too many CMs with the same name in one area. DL's Tomorrowland has a lot of Matts/Matthews so one of my CM friends goes by his middle name now.

I know they do fake names at Whispering Canyon but I'm not sure if they do it anywhere else.

I remember before one trip I talked with "Cherokee" and "California". I decided they had to be made up. Not that those couldn't be their real names....it is just that I have NEVER talked with a Jane, Mary, Martha, Jennifer or anything that is a commom American name. :goodvibes

So we have established that CMs may have on a name tag that is not their own.

But did we decide if they use made up names? Maybe it is just the phone folks that do that? :confused3

I always make a note of the CMs name that I'm speaking too - and since I changed dates a few times to plan the next trip I spoke with Thor (someone else above mentioned him too), Trent, Pollyana & Sergei. Hmmmm.....anyway enough about the name tags - back to the locations on the tags that I hear are coming back - IF they have their own name tag on for the day, whether the name is real or made up, is the location really their own hometown? I LOVE those tags that say where they are from, but will be a bit sad if I learn they are made up too!

"ORLANDO" booked my ressie today, in fact. He even hesitated as he said it, like he was trying to come up with something! Seriously! LOL That was my first thought - "he's making this up!"

Alas, it was NOT my beloved Bloom. :(

Well he wouldn't be coming up with something as the names at CRO are assigned if they aren't using their real name...but I could see how one could possibly trip up when all of a sudden you have to start using a name that isn't yours! :rotfl:

That isn't 100% true. We can have 4 Susans working in one area. They won't always change your name if it is common. They might give you the option but you must use some form of your legal name on the name tag. For instance, I am Suzanne so I could use Sue or Susan or Suzie and once when I reordered my nametag they misprinted it with Suzanna.
Its also true that if you forget your nametag you must choose one from a box of spare tags because CMs must have it on at all times.
But normally if you see a CM with what you think is an odd name, it is their real name. My boyfriend works in the International Program at Epcot in the Norway pavillion and his name is Kim. Since that is usually a girl's name in America he gets asked all the time if it's his real name.

Suzie,

I sent you several PMs. We are coming back this weekend. Please check it and respond. We'd love to see you! :goodvibes

1) CRO
. . . some use real names
. . . some use stage names
. . . some use character names

2) CM's in the parks or resorts
. . . they use their own names
. . . if they forget their name tag, they pick up any name tag handy

A coworker of mine worked at CRO at yes, they all use made up names.

My DD works for Disney, and no not everyone uses made up names....all of her friends and her included have their own names on their pins. It is true however that every employee going out "on stage" needs a name tag, if they forget theirs....pick one out of the bin!

I dont know if the names are fake but I have spoken to two diffrent people named RAINBOW....hmm do you think its odd that two diffrent people with such "colorful" (pun intended) names happen to work at the same place?

I have also spoken with a Unity and a wierd boy name I cant remember.

Well, what happens when you do the survey and one of the questions regards a CM who happened to make your stay magical. Does no one get the credit for the good deed? How do they track people down?

Bobbi :sunny:

When I worked TDS we would leave our name tags backstage so we wouldn't forget them at home. So one night I'm coming in for my shift and my manager stops me on stage to talk to me. We stand there talking for a few mins. and I begin to walk backstage when my manager calls me again. I turn around and finally notice that she was wearing my name tag. She decided that she really wanted to be Alana for the night and I had to be some else for the night. I really had a hard time when guests called my by "name".

That's Strange :rotfl2: Sorry - no pun intended

I have never heard of a company doing that.

We do that where I work, sort of. It's just too confusing when customers call in and ask for somebody that could be anybody. The receptionist would be tied up all day, trying to extract last names from people that wouldn't even know what they are in the first place. We had two Janice's, so one went by her middle name. Or Cassie and Kathy sound too similar, so one of them would have to go by Cassandra or Katherine.

that is not true at all. they use your first name, a lot of people out there have some really strange names, the only people that are aloud to pick new names are the ones from over seas in asia and africa they can pick their real name or chose one that is more easily pronounced.

"My name is Brick and yes, Brick is my real name." Apparently he gets asked that a lot.

I loved Brick. He was our tour guide for the KTTK tour last year. He told us the same thing. :rotfl:

BTW, I spoke to "Pandora" two weeks ago when I called for luggage services at Pop Century. Sounds made up to me.

I have heard many times this is true as well. I mean after all - some of those names at CRO are way out there. Pauline Jean-Marie?? And what is her French last name? :) Lucifer? Who would name their kid that? Cherry Blossom? I mean come on!?!? One time I called and a girl told me her name was Jupiter, Saturn or Mars - cannot recall which one!! ;)

I don't believe this is right! :) I have been told by too many Disney people that most of their names are not real unless they work in a labled area in the park. (i.e. - Canadian Pavillion, Test Track, etc)

When I was booking my trip, I had a little on-line chat with Faline. I told her to say hi to Bambi & Thumper. She said she would and that they were busy working too! I think the cute names add to the magic. You know you're dealing with Disney when you're chatting with someone names Faline!

Believe it or not, my niece is named Feleen. Both her and her mom(middle name) are named after Bambi's girlfriend. It is a different spelling, but it's the same name.
