Fake names for Cast Members

Supermarket would do the "Name in a box" thing, we have a lot of co-workers who forget thier Nametags. Maybe I will put that in the "suggestion" box!

Hey.....does anyone have the Fun & Fancy Free movie (w/Bongo the bear)?

There is a little movie in the middle of the episodes (between Fun & Fancy and Mickey & the Beanstalk) where I think Walt, or one of his pals, does a little birthday party skit that features a character (maybe it's a ventriloquist puppet) named Mortimer..Mortimer Sneed comes to mind. And I think it was based on an actual animator, or voice over actor.

I could be wrong about the specifics, but I definitely remember something about Mortimer Sneed.

Mortimer was also Walt's first choice of name for Mickey Mouse until Lillian said he should change it to Mickey

What are some of the cast members names that you have spoken to?

A few weeks ago I spoke with a guy in dining named Palmetto. How made up does that sound?

Good Lord, they could at least pick names that you can understand when they identify themselves. I always seem to get Kangratanya or Sharonyalagrisma.

When we were there in August, I was talking to a CM near the POTC. He was wearing a name tag that had a location on it, one of the old one (I really miss those). Anyway I commented on it and he laughed and said, no, he wasn't from that location and it wasn't even his real name. For some reason (he did tell me, but I forgot), he didn't have a name tag and he was told to reach in this box and pull one out so that he was wearing one. That struck me as interesting. Of course, he could have been pulling my leg, but he was on the quiet side and was very helpful.

I did that on my CP. A couple times I'd forgotten my nametag so I stopped in costuming. They have a drawer full of old nametags and if they have your name, they'll give it to you. . .but usually they'd open it up, "who do you want to be today?" We did have a few spares in our area that the managers like to torture people with "Ok, you forgot your nametag so all day you have to go by this terrible name" LOL!

Also regarding the CM who had the wrong name badge on, it is disney policy that CM's wear a name badge at all times. He is right in that if he forgot one, he would have had one given to him, or had to choose a "spare" one.

This was the policy when I was a CM. We had a couple spare girl and boy names in a managers office in case of emergency

I once worked in a travel agency call center. It took me a few months to learn that my friend "Kelly" was not really "Kelly". Her real name was Julie. But, when she was hired, there was already a Julie, so they needed her to pick a new name. Her boss looked at her and said, "you look like a Kelly to me". How weird!

I met Brick at MK during the KTTK tour. He was not the tour guide but was the person to check us in. Looking at his badge I noticed he is from a small town in Indiana where I attended college. I struck up a conversation about it and we talked for a long time. He seemed like a genuine guy. When the tour broke for lunch, Brick was at the restaurant setting up for the group. He announced to everyone "My name is Brick and yes, Brick is my real name." Apparently he gets asked that a lot.

We did that all the time at the record store where I worked. Inevitably, someone would forget their nametag (lanyard) and a bunch of our fellow employees would leave theirs behind so THEY wouldn't forget theirs...so, for the duration of our shifts we'd just be our fellow employee.

This was easier for me, since my name is Bryan and one of my fellow employees was Brian...I'd suffer through the spelling change for a shift, but whatever...

As for the nametags, the others have explained it well. Disney does not allow anyone on stage without a nametag on...it's out of dress code without it and Disney is pretty strict about their dress code. So if a CM doesn't have theirs, they have to use a spare one...hence CMs might be walking around with tags that don't bear their real name. This was even a policy at The Disney Store when we were still owned by TWDC...if we didn't have our nametag, we had to use one of the spare ones (usually it was a former CM's tag). I don't know if The Children's Place still requires that, but I know my store manager makes sure it happens. It just makes the whole show look more uniform.

When my family and I ate at the Biergarten at Epcot during Christmas the waiter we had was wearing a nametag that wasn't his. I forget what his nametag said, but he told us that his real name was Nicholas and that he had lost his nametag. He said it's policy to have one on at all times so he was given a random one to wear until he recieved his new one.

Awesome. I'm picking a new name when I decide to chuck it all and head for Disney to be a CM. Now, which should I pick? Do I look more like a Lady Hortensia Benedict-Bottomley, or Sleazy McFeely to you?

"Sergio" the juggler's real name is Aleksey (I call him Alex and so do all of his friends though) and he isn't from Italy.


Then one time we were eating a Marrakesh and our server introduced himself. He mentioned that he couldn't find his nametag so now he has a new name today. He told us what his real name was (a really unique name) and then what his new name was (a very common name). He was so hilarious and a great server.

2 years in a row we at at Cape May Cafe for Breakfast Buffet. We coincidentally had the same table and same waitress. When we went the 1st time her tag said Dorothy and the second time Delores. I asked her if her name wasn't Dorothy and she said yes, but she had forgotten her tag and they told her to pick a similar name from the box of extra tags they have. She asked how I knew her name was Dorothy and I told her we had had her a year before and I remembered because my DH's favorite movie is the Wizard of Oz, thus making it easy for me to remember her name a year later. I try to use word or name association to remember names and faces. I am a hairdresser and the customers really like when you remember their names, although I admit I have to cheat sometimes by looking at the book, because sometimes people don't resemble their given names.

As a CM we were REQUIRED to always have a name tag, well sometimes ( A LOT OF TIMES!) i would forget mine and costuming would open up a drawer and just hand me a random one!! once i was Zafara?!?! i used to sometimes pretend i left my name tag at home, jus to see who i could be that day!!

When I called for the Illuminations cruise I got "Thor" which I thought was unusual but could possibly be his real name. When I worked at Busch Gardens (years ago) we would keep extra name tags in the employee area so if anyone forgot there's. Some people had fake names and some had real ones. Also it would list where the person was from on their name tag and people would make up all sorts of different places.
