Fairly large budget...how crazy can you go???

Wow that looks amazing! But I'm an Epcot fan :rotfl: I'll be dorking it up taking pictures over at Imagination, American Adventure and SSE. Good Luck and I hope your dream comes true because I don't see why it would be a big deal. They'll make money, you'll have your dream wedding, everyone will be happy. I say fight it until they give in.

Former Cast Member here. I did entertainment and worked several weddings. Before that I worked attractions in MK, so I have a bit of a different perspective.

The stage is not a good place for a wedding. I have performed on that stage and there are markings on there for the performers. They're not pretty, but guests will never see it. That stage has lifts, poles and places to put them to tether the performers being lifted, spots for pyrotechnics, and there is no railing to keep somebody from going off the stage. I know it sounds like a good idea for a wedding in paper, but there are many many reasons it just would not work out. There's too much opportunity for something to go wrong for the party, or for the stage to need to be repaired for the performers.

Another issue with MK is the layout of the park. It's not as easy to get you in and out of a location discretely as it is in other parks due to the design of the park and the backstage. Then there is the fact that the castle is the crown jewel of the four parks. One thing that we learn as cast members is that we are there to add to the show, not distract from it. That is why we have such strict costuming standards. A wedding would be a huge distraction if peformed during park hours. Plus you have the fact it is the most crowded park, you have a lot of people funneling past there.

Now, you can have (as others have mentioned) a Swan Boat Landing wedding for a minimum of 28,000. Due to the size of the venue it is limited to 50 guests. It would have to be at 8:00am. They can't do earlier than that because CMs are still getting the park ready (and photography is generally not allowed backstage, and the park is considered "backstage" before it is open to guests), and they can't do later because they have to have you out of the way before the guests come. But it is an option.

Have you been to the Wedding Pavilion? It really is beautiful and you will still have the castle in the background. At least do a site visit. The pictures really do not do it justice.

I have performed in numerous receptions in the Grand Fla ballrooms and they do a beautiful job with it. Another great one you don't hear a lot is the Great Hall of China. I did a special event there, and it is gorgeous. We even have ethnic costumes for the characters (at that event we had Chinese Mickey). The Coral Reef is another beautiful location. Their convention rooms there are majestic. You're talking about some warm, beautiful woods, thick carpets, a very stately color scheme, and of course the aquarium in the background.

I think that if you keep an open mind you might be surprised with how wonderful it will turn out. I have worked with one of the managers who was in charge of weddings, and she really is a wonderful person who has a passion for what she does. The whole wedding crew does. No, it may not be what you originally had in mind, but it may turn out even better.

I hope this helps and least gives you some ide as to why they do things the way they do.

One advantage of Disney over NC and NY is that you can get some first class outside vendors at some great prices as long as you have your wedding at a resort instead of the park. Damon Tucci, Jeff Hawkins and Curt Littlecott are all world class photographers that are based in Orlando. They are a little more expensive than some of the other photographers that people use for Disney weddings but are very reasonably priced compared to wedding photographers in other areas of the country.

I used Damon Tucci in 2002 and his photos were wonderful. My sister has also hired him for her Disney Wedding in August 2010. I do not have enough posts to put in a link but it is definitely worth taking a look at his website to get some ideas for things other people have done in Orlando. There were some really cool pictures he took for the wedding of Howie Dorough of the Backstreet Boys last year.

Hope this helps with the planning process. Feel free to PM me if you have any questions about Damon.

I went to college in NC and the Biltmore Estate is GORGEOUS. Do it there if you can't get the MK location!!!
