I have a fb account. What is different with twitter? Which is better? I always thought twitter was a blogging site...

Neither is better. They are quite different IMO. Facebook is much more about social connections and Twitter is more about information.

I think while Twitter started as a micro-blogging site where people answered the 'what are you doing' question, it has evolved into more of quick hits of information. Yes some can be quite mundane but most users have a general focus that they are tweeting about rather than just themselves. That is at least for the users I follow.

Twitter is absolutely self promotion but it is also amazing for breaking news.

If you want to reconnect with friends, chat, show photos then FB is the way to go.

Or be like everyone else in the world and have all of them.

This would be my husband, yep. He's currently a dwarven pirate in the Mafia...

Other than the fact that they are both forms of social media, Twitter and Facebook aren't really all that similar. I like Facebook to keep up with family and friends, but I check Twitter far more often. On Twitter, you get 140 characters to send out whatever information you choose. Some people use it like their Facebook status and just say what they are doing or thinking. Other people send out links to things they find interesting. Businesses use it to ask for feedback or to send out coupon codes. Newspapers or news channels send out headlines or quick news updates. It's a great way to find out breaking news. It's also where I find out that my favorite author just sent his new book to the editor, or that a video game I'm looking forward to is taking applications for beta testers, or that an actor I like was just cast in an upcoming play - and all sorts of other things like that.
