My nephew posted on Facebook during his 9 month backpacking trip through Europe. My nieces and I "borrowed" his camera memory stick to make him a scrapbook and I downloaded his Facebook posts into a word doc and used that for the journaling. We gave it to him last night and he was moved to tears - said his words brought it all back to him. Just wanted to share the idea if you know someone who posts trip reports.:surfweb:

If you want to try this - I used Microsoft Word
1. Place cursor over the post you want to copy and highlight (including friends replies) that you want to copy
2. Right mouse click and select "copy"
3. Paste into an open word document
4. Disable the hyperlink (otherwise it will keep sending you back to the post - after a few dozen that will drive you crazy)

Good luck and please let me know if these instructions are fuzzy and I'll try to improve them.

What a wonderful gift. The looks totally thrilled with it.

I was planning on scrapping my son's Senior Trip to Disney ... he's there right now. I let him take my digital camera along. There will be no trip reports tho. The only info I get out of him when I send him a text is "Yea", "Ok" and "Disney" ... he's a male of few words.

Luckily my nephew is quite a writer so we had 30 pages of posts to work with!

How truly AWESOME!!! This is one of the BEST ideas I have ever heard!!! :woohoo:

Awww....that was so sweet! I love it when people use their talents for good things like that! Also wonderful, that he seems to really appreciate the time and effort you put into it! Good job!
:thumbsup2

What a wonderful idea and a fabulous gift! He'll remember that trip (and your gift) forever!

What a wonderful gift! That is one of the most creative things I have seen yet. So sweet.

I love this idea! Thanks so much for sharing!

I have to say that when I read the journal box on the second page you posted and he said, "I wish I had someone to share it with"....it made me so sad.

Very cool. I would love someone to scrapbook one of my trips for me! That way it would be done. LOL

Lucky guy!

What a terrific way for him to remember such a great trip!! He looks like he really liked your work.

Amazing! I wish DS(17) would let me download stuff from his site - anyone looking through my recent pages would think I've given him away!:rotfl: Boys!

I wanted to thank you for this idea! My dd just was granted a wish from Make A Wish Foundation and I am going to do something similiar thru this process for her from our Facebook post...GREAT IDEA!

I just did this with my husband's Facebook posts. I haven't done the scrapbook yet. But he just got back a couple days ago from a "cross the country" road trip. He drove his aunt from CT to CA (she moved back out there and she wanted someone to drive with her so he accepted) :thumbsup2

Anyhow, along the way they stopped at the typical tourist areas (Memphis, Grand Canyon, Hoover Dam, Vegas, Painted Desert, etc) and he would post something everyday about where they'd been and what they did. I got the idea to use the Facebook posts as journaling from a scrapbook forum that I go on. He doesn't know that I've copied all of his posts yet. But after I get his pictures developed, I'm going to put together an album w/ his posts. I'm sure he'll love it.

Thanks for sharing your story. I'm sure he loved it!!!

I will preface this by admitting that I am so NOT a computer person as will seem obvious...lol!
But how do you disable the hyperlink?
Also, I copied my facebook post along with everyone's comments in word as well as publisher (I like publisher so that I can size things) but I still get everyone from the post picture and everything is like in some sort of table environment...it will not look good once printed. Am I doing something wrong or should I just not use everyones comments and just print our post about her upcoming Make a Wish trip?
Thanks for any and all help!!!
