Facebook Banned from DIS!

I've seen it go completely enforced. Our Jan 9 Wonder cruise ended up mixed in with the Dream's January 9 cruise. I sent a note to the mods who suggested I clic on report to get the attention to the thread. They did, they split the 2 threads back up and noticed my wife had answered someone's question on if there was a fb group and they sent her a pm deducting 3 points from her account and threatened to ban her if she posted anything fb again.

That enforcement seems to have started after my quoted post.

No they are not the same. FB IS WAY BETTER for meets because you can Actually organize information into categories! And I don't have to weed through crap loads of stupid comments back and forth that technically don't belong on the forums if you read the rules! If it doesn't pertain to the group it should be sent by PM. I don't care to have to scroll through pages and pages of postings about your weather and other non sensical stuff. And one of our cruises we had 180+ pages of this crap amongst a handful of families! They called their group the parrot heads I believe and then shortly before the cruise, they jumped ship. It was a pain how they monopolize everything and this stuff should have been sent through email or pm. It was evident they were all already personal friends. SMH! But they felt compelled to have to expose the rest of us to all of their personal garbage. Ugh!

That may have been us. Our first cruise was very active and we all met on the DIS. Our group's Second cruise was on the Dream. For various reasons people both Parrot Heads and non Parrot Heads had to leave. Most of us were friends and still are. Sorry if that offended you. Actually I would stroke that last comment out because it's not a fair assumption. When we all joined the Dream cruise we all picked that date and both groups did not jive very well because most of us were personal friends and we ended up with 2 separate threads for a while. 2 ways of looking at this. I would be disappointing to think that the DIS is purely for cruise planning and not for making friends.

Does Red Lobster acknowledge Outback or Olive Garden?

No, they are competitors - just like the DIS boards and Facebook. They are both competing for ad dollars and page hits.

...

This made me chuckle since up until June 2014 Red Lobster and Olive Garden were owned by the same company, along with several other chains like Longhorn. Of course, Red Lobster probably doesn't want anything to do with Darden's other restaurants since they were dumped by the corporation.

Enough!

Many of the posts here illustrate why we have implemented the rule that you can't derail threads and groups here by redirecting them to the free-for-all of Facebook or other external sites.

We love Facebook. We use Facebook. We have a Facebook presence. It definitely has a place in our universe.

But DISmeet threads that are started here should stay here, open to DIS members and subject to DIS guidelines. That's the model we have adopted, and what we will enforce. There are several thoughtful posts in this thread that describe how DIS posters have been excluded from meet discussions because they chose not to move to Facebook. That's unacceptable, and the primary (but not only) reason for this policy.

Feel free to visit Cruise Critic and review their rules regarding referring members to Facebook groups; you'll see that they have the same issues but on an even larger scale as they have so many more meet threads.

If you want to start another thread or page somewhere else, go for it. But do not recruit or advertise it here or interfere with posters here.

And review our guidelines, especially regarding rude and attacking posts. Insults toward other posters or our admins are not welcome here. Criticism or problems should be addressed to the admins OFF the forums, via email to admin@wdwinfo.com.

Since this has devolved to the point that there is no value and mostly complaining, this discussion is closed. Any comments should be addressed to admin@wdwinfo.com, not by starting yet another thread.
