This week a family from South Range, WI is relaxing at the Disney Vacation Club resort in Hawaii while they get a brand new home!

I am going to try to get there and get some pictures within the next couple days, if I can fit it in between work, school, and homework!

here's the website: http://www.extremebuilderscommonwealth.com/

It is really exciting. The season's premier was in our town last month. One of the boys is good friends with our youngest DS. They were so excited to go to WDW and the house is beautiful. It is not too big and fits in with the neighborhood. I hope you get there and take pictures. Its a lot of fun.

They must do more than one build a week...They are in my town this week too! The "reveal" is tomorrow at 2pm! I'm excited except for all the road closings around the area. I would love to go see it, but I have to work! :(

They do build 2 houses at the same time. Ty knocks on the door, then stays for about 3 days, then knocks on the other door, stays for about 3 days, goes back to the original location for "move that bus", and then to the 2nd location for "move that bus."

The designers, on the other hand, are there for the entire build.

My husband is a contractor, and we helped build a house last August. It was a wonderful thing to have been involved with. We were there from the beginning, which was about 6 weeks before they knocked on the door, through to the end. It is amazing to see all of the people come together for a good cause.

If you get a chance to visit the site I would certainly recommend it.

I heard they were also doing a build in Ohio this week. How crazy that they do not just one, but TWO homes in a week's time!

DH and I are planning to go over there after work on Friday. That's usually our night with the least amount of homework getting done.

We are 18 miles away in the opposite direction. This is so cool for the area. My DN gets to help on the last day.

i have a question the families dont have to put any money right? or do they?

OMG I have been watching the news about this!! I am about 20 miles from it also. They are somehow going to be able to move the potatoes and they will be just fine...It is so cool.

There's only one problem with your information I see.....the DVC in Hawaii isn't even open yet considering they just started construction late last year....are you sure that's where they are?

I know they are in hawaii, don't know where though

The families do not have to pay for anything. ABC has a partnership with some companies who supply items for each build, the contractor/builder is responsible for finding the remaining product/material donations, and he/she agrees to pay for anything that is not donated.

All of the trade professionals volunteer their time, and must bring their own tools.

I always thought the families did pay property taxes. That's why some families have lost their homes that were built for them. They couldn't afford the taxes.

See, now that's what I thought, too! but here's what's posted on the "The Family" page from that website I linked in the first post:

"The Huber family will go on vacation to the Disney Vacation club in Hawaii while the “Extreme Makeover: Home Edition” team, local builder Builders Commonwealth, workers and volunteers transform their home. Builders Commonwealth creates unparalleled quality designs of distinction and beauty, for both residential and commercial clients. They are recipients of the National Solar Design Award and focus on the use of sustainable locally obtained materials."

My guess is they're at another resort in Hawaii, sponsored by Disney, who just really wanted to get their name in there. :confused3

BTW, forgot to mention, they said on the radio today that this will be the 150th episode, therefore it will be a two hour special. I guess that would be a good reason for Disney to want their new DVC Hawaii resort plugged! :thumbsup2
