We firmly believe in tipping good service at restaurants - I know the DDP includes either a 15% or 18% tip, but if we wanted to tip more than that, would we have to tip in cash or is there a way to charge the tip addition to our room key? :confused3 Just curious about whether we need to have cash prepared to do this.
Only 1 more week!!! :Pinkbounc :Pinkbounc :Pinkbounc

we "extra" tipped in cash... but if you order add'l items that are not included (i.e. cocktails) you can add the add'l tip on to the source of payment for that bill (i.e. your room key card) hth! :)

We always left extra in cash. Usually another 5%, we were very fortunate in that at all of TS meals our wait staff was always excellent. I usually leave between 20 to 22% at home for excellent service and felt that I should leave this as well at the world.

My last trip I started to tip extra in cash, I found all the waitstaff no matter what res we ate in even using the DP were fantastic. :)

We also left an extra $5 - 10.00 in cash for a tip while there in August. The few times we ordered something that wasn't covered (like an alcoholic drink) we would add a tip to our room card.

We ate at the California Grill on the DDP. We had wine and when the bill came, there was 18% gratity added to the wine bill!! Ha, I was going to tip 20%, but since they had the audacity to do this, I didn't leave extra!

I hate that! :furious:

That is the correct rule per Disney, some servers do it and some take their chances by not being caught and don't do it. Don't get mad at the server.

I thought that was only for groups of a certain size? Is it on alcoholic bev as well?

I think that if you are on the plan, the tip is added to any additional items that are ordered. WE had 18% added to the bill for our guests at COncourse Steak House, as well as at Boma. At CG the server di not add the gratuity to our wine bill.

We tipped extra w/the DDP where we had great service. Unfortunately we had a couple of places that the first thing they asked was whether or not we were on the dining and then promptly disappeared never to be seen again until it was time to pay the bill. :furious: This happened at Boma our first night there so needless to say we didn't leave extra. Fortunately this was the exception rather than the rule and most of our service was exceptional! :yay:

I've seen this mentioned before that wait staff lose interest as soon as they find out you're on the dining plan.

We experienced this behavior from our server at the Concourse Steak House, but I felt that this would be hos normal behavior DDP or not. We were happy with the service throughout the rest of our stay.

This ticked me off too and it was really late and I didn't notice it until I said those drinks sure were expensive even with the DDE! I did double tip, of course what threw me off was that the tip area and total area were generously circled in red by our server! I kind of felt misled to say the least. Yup, she got a 38% tip!

To answer the OP, I use cash--I will be bringing more $5's and $10's with me this summer to make it easier.

DH and I have eaten several times in the signature restaurants and had great service on DDP. None of the servers ever added the 18% to our wine bill. This was only done at the California Grill....but only once.

I guess it is something to watch for when paying the bill.

OT but once several years ago at Si Fi we had a server give us a little card with "customary tip" info on it. I was so offended! I had heard they have problems with some groups that are from other countries and this was during "spring break" season. So he may have had a run of bad tips. But, we were a normal 30ish couple. We are now in the food business and have ALWAYS normally tipped at least 20% and round up. Needless to say he got the "minimum suggested tip" and lost himself some money and my respect that day. I can't believe Disney would allow their CM's to "beg" for tips.
