Extra Room Key?

I'm going to AKL in march, and I was wondering if me and my boyfriend would be able to each get an extra room key to keep in our wallets. While I do love Magic bands, sometimes in the morning you can be groggy and it can be a real pain if you forget yours and both of you need to run up to the room before the bus comes. I've had very hit or miss with the app and would feel better with an extra key to keep in the wallet

You should be able to get one at the front desk. I know that not everyone gets a magicband, so it must be a thing.

I had no problem getting one at Animal Kingdom Lodge, but when I stayed in Grand Floridian Villas they told us they didn't have them available there and we only had our magic bands. Which was actually really inconvenient since we were getting married and I was hoping DH could keep it in his wallet during the day.

If you have the MDE app on your smartphone there is a way to open your door. Go under your resort reservation and you should see "unlock door".

I'm sure you could ask for a KTTW card at the front desk.
I make it a point to put my magic band with what i'm bringing to the parks for the day so I won't forget to put it on.
Also not sure why both of you would have to go to the room.
It only takes 1 magic band to enter so the person with the magic band could go or take it off and give it to the other person to go get theirs.

We always "hang" our MagicBands on the "door handle" on the inside of the room door as soon as we close the door.

That way we CAN'T leave the room without seeing our MagicBands as we leave!

Since we've been there before, we keep our old magic bands in our day bag in case there is an issue. That gives us the "2nd key".

We have friends staying off property we are meeting and last year we went all the way to the park with him not realizing he didn't have his magic band... Now THAT was a pain in the butt because then he tried his phone and it didn't work so he had to go to the front desk to get a key. No pain on Disney's part, just trying to minimize the chance of this happening again

Guests participating in MyMagic+ always have the option to use a card instead of a MagicBand.

If a resort says they don’t have it, push back. Having the info about it on their privacy page is pretty serious, and they need to make it happen.

When they told us they couldn't do it at the Grand Floridian Villas they explained they don't have the set up there, only at the main building. So basically it would take a really long time before they could get us one and not in the time we needed it. Not all the buildings have it set up to print the cards it could take 24 hours before you can get one.

Most people live on their phones so I doubt they would leave it behind.

I usually have two on me, the new one on my wrist and an older one on a carabiner on my belt loop.
