Extra room for new countries at world showcase

I really don't understand the call for more European countries. I mean, I've heard, "Switzerland would be great!" Switzerland is surrounded by THREE countries that already have pavilions. What on earth would make Switzerland so unique that it deserves its own pavilion separate from Italy, France and Germany? (Hint: nothing. No offense to the Swiss.)

As for Greece, I think it would be architecturally stunning, but the food is what I question. At Boardwalk, the only Greek restaurant on property is closing for whatever reason. But I don't ever remember any threads discussing how early you have to wake up on 180th day from your trip to make a reservation at Kouzzina. So if no one wanted the Greek food then, why would it draw people now?

Finally, I think World Showcase as a whole should NOT ever have any rides that are remotely thrilling. That should be saved for Future World. We all bemoan the apparent homogenization of WDW, yet we want all the lands and parks to have the same types of rides. I think, leave WS alone. If you have a new pavilion, add a dark ride like Maelstrom.... a few minor drops and some scenery. Otherwise, WS should be about the shows, the food, the architecture, the CMs, etc... And no, I don't care that some 4 year old might find it boring. They have Fantasyland. And low-brow people who just want thrills at any cost can hopefully someday get their fix in Future World.

In summation, I apologize for the tone of today's rant. I haven't had my coffee yet, basically just woke up because I'm still on Hawaii time, and haven't slept well in a week. :coffee: :badpc:

I don't understand your point here.

It's like saying "the next time you want to go to Florida, go to Georgia instead. It's right next to Florida so it's the same thing". :confused3

His point is overkill on the Euro countries, especially if Switzerland were to happen. Those neighbors share similar languages and cultural heritage (3 of the official languages of Switzerland are the languages of those other pavilions). Since Germany was built primarily with architectural stylings of Bavaria and Swabia, even some of the architecture would look very similar.

I agree that it would be overkill to add more European countries , I think something along the lines of Australia or New Zealand would be so different and interesting!

Still think Thailand would be great. The temples in Bangkok alone would make good models for the structures. Don't think there are any places in WDW that offer Thai food either.

I know and I recall back then there was going to be equitorial africa, but it was never done due to Animal Kingdom. They just left some of the stores. That is a large area as well.

We visited the first week of November in '82. I recall the signage for Israel and Africa being in pads 2 and 3 from Yesterland's post. I have the 82 Pictorial guide (which I posted in it's entirety on WDWMagic and Theme Park Review year's ago - I've since pulled it), after questions came up on countries to be added.

The Outpost area was vacant up until the outpost was built.

You learn something new every day. I didn't know that, actually. Thanks for sharing that!

I've also not been to the Tangierine Cafe, but I know where I'll be stopping next time I'm there.

It is very good. Tried the shawarma and kefka.....both are excellent choices!

1.Brazil between Norway and Mexico. (No ride)
2. Costa Rica is the outpost pad. (No ride)
3. Venezuela in the outpost pad as well. (A elevated train tram)
4. Switzerland in between Germany and Italy. (Mountain coaster)
5. Russia between Italy and America. (Sleigh Ride)
6. Greece between Japan and Moroco. (No ride)
7. Spain between Moroco and France. (Boat ride)
8. Scotland between UK and Canada. (No ride with room for a ride)
9. Japan would get a ride
10. Germany would get a ride.

8. As it stands right now Scotland is part of the uk. Maybe that will change but as of now Scotland is the uk.

I would really love India. It fits in with disney(jungle book) have jungle book characters to meet and greet, have a Indian eatery, they have a really good beer called cobra, they have buildings that are landmarks (sorry cant spell the one I mean, the white temple) I just think it fits so well. Wouldn't care if anything else was added as long as India was added :)

I agree with Suzie, I think India would be a great fit for the world showcase. Was it the Taj Mahal you were thinking of Suzie?

I would also love India, Thailand, Egypt, and Brazil (I think the previous suggestion of a Brazilian steakhouse is a good one). Even though I love Europe I think some more non European countries should be added before adding more European countries especially since DW is drawing people from a more diverse set of countries these days.

For me India,Switzerland,Australia would be good additions to the showcase.

Yes that's the one. I knew the name but didn't want to embarrass myself by trying to spell it lol

Is it wrong that as I read people's suggestions for new countries, all I really consider is what food I can get at whatever restaurant they put in?

Same here, but for me it's alcoholic beverages.

Brazil - Caipirinhas, anyone?

Poland - Vodka? Na zdrowie!

India - Palm wine, eeeeeeh.... pass. (although I love Indian food)

Australia - Rebujito? Sherry? Wine? Fosters? YEP.

Russia - MOAR VODKA!

South Pacific - ONE BIG GIANT TIKI BAR. Just imagine the possibilities.

South Africa - I never say no to more wine.

Cuba - MOJITOS FOR EVERYONE!!!

Some of these I'd love to see, but realistically? I have to agree that we won't see anything for a long, long time, if at all.

Ok, I guess I'll play along. The numbering corresponds to the map on the first page.

1. India
A forced perspective Taj Mahal and a restaurant where you can get all the curry your mouth and tummy can handle.

2. Jamaica
Steel drum bands and the like. Rear entry/exit to World Showcase that is connected by path to the Caribbean Beach Resort.

3. Brazil
Heavy Carnival theme. The gift shop will have a giant soccer ball that glows after every match win for Brazil, and shuts off after a loss or draw.

4. Egypt
Pyramid façade. Nile River ride inside.

5. Greece
A gentle boat ride with the theme of Greek mythology.

6. Spain
A medium intensity thrill ride that gives a nod to the running of the bulls. Additionally, a feature representing the Strait of Gibraltar next to neighboring Morocco.

7. The Netherlands
Taking advantage of the nearby waters, a pavilion is constructed to resemble the floating building market there, and then the area is flooded to complete the look. A single floating hotel room is also built there and one random family/group will be selected each day to view Illuminations from their own private spot and spend the night inside EPCOT.

8. Australia
A slow track ride that takes you from Sydney to the outback, and then back.

Scotland would be awesome and they could have a kilt shop and a brave themed ride!!

Faith, Trust, and..PIXIE DUST.
